  1. I've been spending the weekend playing the Final Fantasy XI private server called Horizon that just launched. I've never played the game previously (I tried a decade ago but got totally filtered by the old controls) but managed to get some friends to tag along and try it, and I've been having an absolute BLAST. It's old, obtuse and difficult to control but the immersion and MMO-feeling is absolutely excellent. I've managed to get to my elf warrior to Level 15 and only got my ass kicked a few times so far!

  2. Not for me or my family. We get together and enjoy the company of each other and trade gifts and the usual stuff. We always celebrated certain aspects of it in Swedish culture in a religious way though. There's a really old tradition called Lucia that's been around forever, kind of a procession, where people (it is very common in almost every school, but there are televised events with adults aswell) dress in white gowns and wear a crown of candles on their heads, and then they proceed to sing carols like Silent Night, but also a few, maybe less christmasy, hymns aswell. Sweden is not a particularly religious country in general, but many look to these events fondly as it's just simply quite comfy to celebrate and to sort of make the entire month of december have a christmas-y feel.

I found a nice article if anyone would be interested in learning more:

  3. I was probably both too young, and in a not very optimal area (far northern sweden) for arcades. I remember a local movie theater had a few pinball machines and maybe a racing game, and there was a video rental place that had an area in the corner with some lightgun games and some racing games, and probably airhockey. But I was too young to be allowed to use them. I get why people are nostalgic for them though!

  4. Call me cynical, but it feels like since these news broke so suddenly, with the topic already being that Epic paid the settlement, it kind of makes me think that they want to sweep the entire thing under the rug, and not really change their ways. Granted, it's an unprecedented maount of money, but who knows.
I don't play the game very often (like once a week maybe) and I only spent money on it I think once, so I don't think I've fallen victim to these patterns myself.

Yes, the 2021 game is (currently) on Game Pass and the 2017 game is not (currently) on Game Pass. It is very fortunate that's true, otherwise it would be impossible to tell what game this was in reference to. Either way, @Smokey mentioning Game Pass was not a deliberate attempt to make it clear what game this was in refence to, and why would @Smokey do that to clarify this? Anyone blessed with both the knowledge there was at least one other GOTG game and even a modicum of common sense would not have relied on that to make it clear. They would art covert art, year of release, link to a store page (For the record, that's what I would do), post a trailer, mention what developer/publisher was behind it, not say "I played it on Game Pass". The only reason that helped was dumb luck.

    So no, @Smokey, you nor anyone else can use the research I did for you as retroactive excuse for piss poor effort you in making your own thread clear. As the thread author, I shouldn't have to do that for you. Mentioning Game Pass made it possible to figure it out what game it, but not only was it complete fluke because the other game just happens to not be on Game Pass right now, it also doesn't serve the purpose in the long term. What if we get a situation in the future that both games end up on Game Pass. Or if the 2021 game leaves Game Pass? Both of you read the OP again and tell me honestly that you would be able to tell what game @Smokey was talking about if either of those things were to happed. Exactly, you can't. Hell, you can't tell what this was in refence to right now just by reading OP, no without doing your own research into what GOTG games are on Game Pass. Much like I did and spared everybody else the trouble. For that, you are welcome @Smokey, but be honest because the truth is plain to see. You failed to clarify what game you were referring to because either;

    1. You didn't know about another Major GOTG game.
    2. Couldn't care if there was and was happy to lazily put up a very vague topic up.
    3. Or both

Like I said, in the future I expect you to start new threads with same care and effort put into them. I'm not saying it needs to be like one of my infamous reviews with video clips and screenshots that take a day to write, just something clear and concise.

And @Shortie, I know you've got some sort of issue with me, but believe it or not I have no issue with you. I massaged you one time over a very minor thing and now you're on a bloodhunt for some reason. Following my posts around to then pounce on them and take the opposite stance just to provoke me is pathetic. Just like here, you will inevitably get tripped up and say something that makes no sense and just makes you look foolish because when one writes a forum post in anger, one never thinks it through. I've been in you position myself and it never ends well. So for your own sake, not mine, drop this vendetta and just enjoy the forum.

Either way, discussion on this issue is closed. It's clear what game this was about, it was clear before @Shortie's spiteful and completely unnecessary provocation, we can all move on.

I haven't played the game for myself, as I've hkind of held off on it. It's on PS Plus aswell but the filesize is so large that I've not found a good time to dedicate a day to try it out. I've heard good things though, and that it's supposed to be some kind of sleeper hit.

I'm in between my Gba and PSP - it's a shame that Sony didn't give enough support to the PSP because it had loads of potential. The GBA had so many great games that I still play on my GBA emulator like Broken Sword.

The PSP was SOOO good. I remember if feeling like such a cool luxury product with its metal details and piano black finish. Truly the Rolls' Royce of handheld systems.

  7. I'm a gigantic sucker for handhelds, and my favourite has got to be Nintendo 3DS. Some of my fondest memories on that machine, and the fact that it was back-compatible with the ENTIRE DS library, and had a (for its time) great digital storefront for Nintendo standards made me totally fall in love with it.
I also absolutely love my PS Vita I bought a few years ago, which I managed to hack to enable emulators and all kinds of games. Also helps that it's got like the best D-Pad of all time.

I know it's probably not in this timeline, but I would absolutely love another truly dedicated handheld device. With smaller and cheaper games. The Switch and Steam Deck are simply too big to do it for me.

Edit: Oops, didn't notice this was such an old thread!

  8. Megaman mostly, since it's the one I grew up with the most, and always felt was really good at making spinoffs and other cool games.

Another is Viewtiful Joe. I'd KILL for a third game, or even a HD port of the originals. There are probably tons more, but those are always the ones I think about off the top of my head.

There are a few I can name off the top of my head which I believe are PG rated unless I am mistaken

Phantasy Star Online is one. I never played this myself on the Dreamcast but when it came to Xbox a few years ago I jumped on and it's a really fun and addictive game.

Jet Set Radio is another as well. Again I never played this one myself and wish I had because from what I hear, it was an amazing game

Sonic Adventure 2 was another game as well that I know is PG rated and if you are a Sonic fan you will know just how fun the Sonic games are.

OP was asking for stuff explicitly not-Sonic, also Phantasy Star isn't playable I think as it was an MMO.

Anyways, I came up with a few more if you're interested @BlazeNinja22

    Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Fighting)
Crazy Taxi (Arcadey driving - not racing though!)
    Soul Calibur (Fighting)
    Chu Chu Rocket (Puzzle)
    Skies of Arcadia (RPG)
    Power Stone (goofy unique brawler/fighter)
    Capcom vs SNK 2 (Fighting)
    Shenmue (Adventure)
    Puyo Pop Fever (Puzzle)

As it didn't live for very long, there's not a whole lot of games to consider. So it's a bit like with NES or SNES, where most (not all) lists of the best games look more or less the same, but you can find something cool in almost every genre.

  10. Jet Set Radio! I only played it in 2014 and it became one of my favourite games of all time. The controls are a bit awkward but I love it nonetheless, highly recommended!

You play as kids on superpowered rollerskates, drifting around Tokyo spraying grafitti and doing tricks. It has a really distinct style (I think it was one of the earlies examples of cel-shading) and an amazing soundtrack. Here's a trailer if you want to check it out.

As I'm sure will come a shock to absolutely no one given my history of posts here... The fucking song rocks and gets a 10/10.  I especially like the cover version form FamilyJules:

I'd like to step away from my comfort zone of RPG's for a bit and post something from one of the most off beat, slick and cool franchises of all time.  Pull my Devil Trigger bitch!  (Plus a cover from Little V)

6/10 - It's alright, but not something I'd listen to regularly I don't think. But it lends itself good to the corny ironic coolness of DMC no doubt!

Here's one that always gets me real hyped, from one of my favourite SF characters:

  12. I got a few from when Smash 4 launched, together with my brothers we got our favorite characters. I bought Link along with the game, then I also got Ness, Captain Falcon and Samus I think? My youngest brother collected a few fun ones like the big sprite Mario from when Mario Maker launched.

  13. Maybe they didn't plan DLC ahead of time, with fear of the game underperforming, but changed their mind when it apparently did pretty well (I've yet to play it but I really want to)? If so, a DLC might not be impossible I'd reckon. Or even something like a sequel to create kind of a subseries in the same world?

It's Bandai after all, and they seem to love squeezing as much as they can from a game when it's deemed profitable, even retroactively. The same happened to Dark Souls 1, what with the expansion more or less being restored and expanded initially cut content, as is evident from the artbook of the original game.

I think this is cool to give a background to the lore of The Witcher series. There were some what'd I miss??? questions I had in the lore and characters in Witcher 3. I would like to see how Geralt became a Witcher.

He's already a Witcher in the first game, and there's a billion books if you want more lore. The game's are standalone stories from the books though I think, but the world and groundwork is all the same. I've only read the first book (The Last Wish) which is like a collection of short stories of Geralt's adventures and I really recommend it!

Not too big with Final Fantasy myself. Not really feeling the song either. But I'll give it a 5/10.

One of my favorite video games soundtracks. Far Cry 3s Blood Dragon. So good. Power Glove makes some great music.

7/10 - Really good, I didn't play this game but I've listened to so much synthwave the last 5 years that it sounds a bit too simple for my tastes. Still great stuff nontheless, though.

Here's another one from I game I personally haven't played (But want to!) though I've listened to it a billion times in Smash:

    10/10

Both versions are complex, haunting, beautiful and expertly performed.  I wish I had more to say, I honestly don't know shit about these games, but there is a genuine sense of tragedy and foreboding about this music that pulls me in.  This is incredibly well done and thank for sharing @Rain Dew.

Well, if it's going to be RPG heavyweights why not the Hymn of the Fayth from FFX, I'll also include the cover from Kate The Great:

1000/10 (10/10 just to be official) - Cannot overstate how mighty this one is. Shivers every time. Final Fantasy X has a perfect soundtrack imo, not a single bad track and this one is just godlike.

You inspired me so I'm gonna continue the RPG train for a sec. My personal favourite track of the game and it becomes even more poignant if you know the details regarding the main menu theme and this theme:

Right, it's so good. As for your song, not a huge fan of Megaman myself, but this is a great jam. I'm going to see if this is available on spotify. I'd say an 8/10 for me.

I have to go with the theme of Snake Eater for my next pick. I really get that 007 vibe from it. It also fits with the timeframe of the game too.

9/10 - Amazing. When Snake Eater came out, I was too young to really play it, and found the music corny because I didn't get that the entire game is such a homage to Spy films, but as I got older and got to play it myself (It's my favorite MGS game now), I really love it.

My next one is a really relaxing, nice tune from Smash (The original is from Pilotwings Resort I think?)

I have had The Witcher 3 for like 5 years now, and I only played a small portion of it. I couldn't get used to the amount of menus and options I had. Was overwhelming so I never stuck with it. I may jump back into it one of these days, but I have to really invest into it if I want to take it seriously I think.

The exacy same thing happened to me actually! And after the initial tutorial area (White Orchard) I felt kind of overwhelmed at the options, and I ran into a big city way to early and got ganked by a beggar in an alley. The second time I tried I got further along the right track and learned the game better, but I never got past the second act, but I'm ready to give it another chance, probably some time next year.

Pretty epic diddy right there. :D I'd say a 7/10 for me. Not something I really get into, but I get why it's liked, it's a good track.

And one of my all time favorite tracks from one of my favorite tracks. Mmm, so damn good! Once it sets in, I'm brought back to playing that classic. Honestly surprised it hasn't been posted here yet. It's also really relaxing.

10/10 - Just an absolute classic! Masterpiece even. I love the DKC music aswell but Aquatic Ambiance is just immortal.

Here's something on the exact opposite end of the stage bgm spectrum. It even manage to make an elevator stage feel awesome:

    Getting back on topic.

6/10 I get what you're saying about it, it's good theme, just that memorable to me. Honestly, I think it may have worked better as a movie theme because it's one of those musical pieces that would help set a mood during opening credits to lead onto the firsts scene, but in a game the first thing you come across is the main title screen and menu, something you're busy on and will probable blast past in few moments with really letting the music do it's thing. A nice piece of music, but not great for a game, even a game as story heavy as Mafia II.

You forgot to share one for yourself! But that's alright, I'll just continue with another one to keep it rolling :)
I haven't actually played this game myself, but I quite like the music!
