Most times you ever had to repeat a boss fight, etc.?

What is the largest number of times you can remember ever having to repeat a boss fight or another hard encounter in a game in order to progress? And was it due to difficulty, a bug, or not sure which?

For me it was the cart sequence in A Plague Tale: Innocence. I must’ve tried 20+ times before I finally found a workaround. This one was caused by a gray area between difficulty and a kind of bug, as the targeting seemed messed up on the stairs on console.

I recall battling the Nameless King in Dark Souls III over 30 times. I tell you, It was a mix of difficulty and my own mistakes. But the worst was the bed of chaos fight in the same game.

For me it was 20+ attempts on Dark Souls' Ornstein and Smough.

I totally feel your pain! For me, it was Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls. I lost count after the 30th attempt, and it was all because of the difficulty! Their combination of speed and power was just brutal. No bugs, just pure frustration. Eventually, I got through by summoning help, but man, they almost broke me!

Yes, I also believe that the Dark Souls' can be very frustrating. And I know that the Ornstein and Smough's fight is very tough too. But with constant practice, you'll master the game.

Same here. But what I realized is that those attempts really helped me understand the game's mechanics and patterns so well. Trial-and-error has really helped me have a better understanding of the gameplay.
