StaceyPowers Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Do you go out of your way to upgrade your character’s appearance/clothing/etc.? I mean cosmetic upgrades, not functional upgrades. I find I do this in some games, and not in others. I have a hard time articulating why. I guess I only do it in games where there are a lot of items I think look distinctive and appealing.
Shortie Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 I have been known to do this myself in some games but other games, I tend not to bother. I know some games give you the option to change your characters appearance and clothing at the start of the game, if that is an option, I will usually do it then and then forget to do it when I am playing the game.
killamch89 Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 I obsess over cosmetics in third-person games where I constantly see my character, but completely ignore them in first-person games where appearance doesn't matter.
Scorpion Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 I enjoy cosmetic upgrades because they personalize my gaming experience and showcase my progress. However, I don’t always bother with them if they don’t add to the gameplay or feel unnecessary, focusing instead on the core story and challenges.
Bizdustry Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 (edited) In games like Fortnite, I I love collecting cosmetic upgrades because they’re really fun. But in games like Dark Souls, I usually don’t bother with cosmetics since I care more about the gameplay. It all comes down to what I enjoy in each game!! Edited June 4, 2025 by Bizdustry

I tend to agree, except when FPS games change to third person in cutscenes. I love being able to personalize my characters, either through gear you aquire through the game, or purely cosmetic outfits. One of my pet peeves are loot-based RPGs where the gear you equip only change your stats, not your appearance.
