  1. I wholeheartedly agree with the statements towards EA. F them. "It's in the game"... not anymore! Now it might be in the fifteenth DLC!
  2. I've just started playing through one of probably the top 10 CC mods of all time - Meuse Crossing for The Longest Day. And I must say, it's a treat! Such a beautiful gem of a game! Contrary to most other vanilla CC games, this one is set during the invasion of France in 1940, as opposed to late-war like most other, if not all, official games of the franchise focused around ww2. It's such a blast using early war equipment, and seeing French tanks I've never seen before!
  3. Hello there, good people! So, let me cut to the chase! I have recently taken upon myself a mission. Perhaps a calling even, some may say. Are we talking a noble pursuit for the betterment of mankind? ...No. Certainly not! If anything, quite the contrary! I have decided to fight my way through all the war that the Close Combat franchise has to offer! Well... All the war that the singleplayer grand campaigns have to offer, anyway. My goal is: Play through every single Close Combat game to ever exist. With both factions in the longest campaign the games offer up, on the hardest difficulty there is, making things even harder for myself than the developers originally intended for it to be, as we move along! I figured, instead of posting about each game separately... Why not have a project collection, where everything can be located as it comes out? And so here we are! I might even throw in some reviews of the games as time goes by, as I certainly am getting a good sense of what is what, and the differences between the various iterations as I progress through my personal mission! Now, I am a seasoned veteran of the franchise, and have been playing Close Combat games for, at the time of writing this, around two and a half decades. My first experience with the series was with the Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far demo. This was back before everyone had "the internet". Whatever that place was. However - a friend of mine, when I was in my early elementary school years, had gotten his hands on the demo from a CD in a gaming-magazine! He told me about it, and I through it sounded amazing. So we went to his place, and I was not wrong! Instantly hooked me right in like a true sucker! And here I am, 25 years later and still playing these dang games! I have for a while been considering playing through them all with both factions, and put the playthroughs out on youtube. And well, I finally got to it! Why the heck not, right!? It's somewhat of a niche game, and some of it's iterations barely have any LPs of them, so I enjoy the thought that one day, anyone will be able to come to my youtube channel and have all the games laid out for them to choose from in a let's play type format! With some reviews, when the time comes, and heck - even some of the better mods out there being played through as well! Why do I bother with this? Well. As you will surely figure out for yourself if you watch any substantial amount of these videos, it is simply because I am insane, and don't have my priorities in life straight! Close Combat. A love and hate relationship that has it's ups and downs. It has me jumping out of my seat screaming in joy at unsuspected victories. It also, on the other end of the spectrum, have me close to beating a hole through my screen at the utter unbelievability of it's BS at times! So... come along from the rides, and see the best and the worst sides of me as the journey goes! I will now list the four playthroughs I have already got out there below. In the future, more will be added. If there is a specific CC game you'd like to see next, that I haven't played already, I am certainly open for requests on that part. However, I am likely to finish the vanilla games before I dip into the glorious mods that are out there! You can suggest those too - it will just take a while until I get to them! Either way! I will list them like this; the aggressor in the campaign first, then the defender second. So for the Normandie landings - the Allies, then the Germans. For the invasion of Russia - The Germans, then the Russians. Alright! Here we go! Close Combat: Wacht Am Rhein (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Wacht Am Rhein (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: The Longest Day (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: The Longest Day (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem (Allied Grand Campaign) Close Combat 3: Cross Of Iron (Axis Grand Campaign) Close Combat 3: Cross Of Iron (Allied Grand Campaign) That is the four iterations of the franchise I currently have available out there at the time of making this post. More is sure to follow soon, and I hope some of y'all will want to come along for the ride! If you got any questions, suggestions, hate or love, I am receptive to it all! Let me know what you think, wether you think I'm doing allright, or you think I need to make some changes to how I do things! For all I know, you might be right! Oh well! If you're still reading at this point, I would like to thank you for your attention, and I sincerely hope your time spent with this does not feel wasted! Y'all have a good one, folks! And may Cthulhu bless you! Cheers!
  4. It's never too late! What's stopping you? 🙂
  5. Yeah, I can't argue with that, CC, regardless of it's iteration is still stuck in the 90s. However, I do enjoy them for what they are, despite shortcomings and frustrating annoyances that has plagued me for decades. I honestly think they're fixing things that aren't broken, and leaving the broken stuff alone, judging from their last 3 releases 😕
  6. Pokemon master race! 😛 oh, the memories. I still remember the day in 6th grade when my best friend told me about this new show on TV where some kid hunted caterpillars with his flaming dinosaur. I was instantly intrigued. First gen... really was a good one! We had some tall towers in the yard, and at recess, people would climb to the top and drop down pokemon cards for all the other kids at school to fight over xD parents were in disarray, and it was apparently a big problem just because some people broke some legs and arms. pfff. The brawl is real!
  7. Sorry for the bump, but I wasn't able to edit my intial post (probably due to it being a while since I posted it), and I wanted to add the German playthrough to the post as well! Either way, here it is; Have a good one, y'all!
  8. It really is! It's simple and a bit dated, but if you can look past that, you can have hours of semi-mindless joy! 🙂
  9. I remember the good old days when the original Call of Duty released. Was a blast at LAN parties! The franchise has been through quite a journey since then! 😛
  10. Hello there! So, I am a seasoned veteran of the CC franchise, and have about 25 years of experience with them. Picked up my first CC game in the 90s, when I got a hold of the CC2 demo off a CD from a gaming magazine. Was amazed then, and love the games still! Currently I'm on a mission to play through all CC games with both factions in the grand campaigns of the respective games. I will be putting them all up on youtube, in due time. It's just something I've wanted to do for a while, and at some point I decided "you know what? I'm just gonna do it!" - and so here we are! Prior to this playthrough, I have also finished with both sides in Cross of Iron and Last Stand Arnhem. More to come in the future! However! Here's the links to the first episodes in each playthrough: (I'll edit in the German one once I finish the Allied playthrough.) Hope some of y'all can get something out of it. Have a good one!
  11. I don't even want to know how much I have spent on it, but I've played World of Tanks for over a decade, and I have spent probably in the thousands of euros over the years... Get myself a car? No thanks, I want a new digital tank instead...
  12. Well, there you go - free to download! It's definitely something I'd recommend if you're in the market for just a few hours of relaxes management entertainment in the form this game uniquely provides! 🙂 Oh! If you do download it, you might want the patch that should be optional with it on abandonware sites. Might. You might also not! It just depends on... oh, I'm not really sure. But some people might need it to get the game to work, others might have an easier time getting it to work without. I think ultimately I made the game work without it, and had issues with inverted colours when I tried using it, and had to have my desktop set to a certain resolution to not get glitches graphically etc... it was a whole thing! 😛 But for sure run as admin and in SP2 compatibility. And I assure you, it is indeed a good time! For a while, until things start progressing very slowly due to some decisions the devs have made. But for sure, you'll get a few hours of fun out of it before it starts getting to that point!
  13. Anyone else got to play this game back in the days when it was new and fresh? In ye olde days of 2002? 🙂 For me personally, it's a game I like to come back to every now and then and just chillax with some digital golfing mixed with the the sims universe. Never gets old for me, tho it does get tedious when your course gets to a certain point! 😛 If I'm not mistaken, this should be abandonware by now. I have at least seen discussions of it where it has been linked to as such. Pro tip to get it to work properly - I fiddled around a bit with it, well, a damn lot, actually... and finally I managed to make it work properly (somewhat, in a 800x600 window in the middle of my screen, but other than that all good) - it seems the trick is to run it in Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, and "run as administrator" ticked on. There may or may not be other steps, but this worked for me on Windows 10! I'm currently doing a playthrough of if on youtube, if anyone wants to follow along! Going through it on Impossible difficulty until I got 18 holes and a damn nice course, or the game eventually breaks down on me and spirals into an unrecoverable domino-effect of horrendousness, as it might, due to the difficulty level and certain game-mechanics. Not much more to it than simple relaxed sim gaming, really! Hope it will be of some value to at least one other person out there!
  14. I wanted to edit the original post to add the German playthrough to it as well, but I can't seem to do it, so instead I will add it here; They're now both completed, with a grand total of 194 episodes across both factions! Hope some of you will bet some sort of entertainment value out of them! (and that this doesn't break any forum rules due to bumping? I would edit the first post if I could.)
  15. It's not a bad game to get inspiration from 🙂 All the maps are hand-made, so a lot of work has gone into them for sure. Not sure exactly what that means, but I assume drawing/painting of some sort, most likely digitally?
  16. An interesting thought. Who's to say? Maybe they took inspiration from this game?
  17. Hello there! So; I'm an avid Close Combat fan, and out of all the games in the franchise, Last Stand Arnhem is in my personal opinion one of the better iterations of it. That being said, I am currently doing a playthrough of it for youtube. Now, I've played these games since the 90s, and overall racked up more hours of game-time spread across the various iterations of it than any sane human should. I suppose a good side-effect of this is that I am quite experienced with the games at this point in time! I'm playing on Elite difficulty, and given the chance, I always try to make things as hard and challenging for myself in each and every battle, barring stifling myself intentionally. Since you can edit your opponent's troop composition, I will always replace redundant units with useful ones, and if he for some reason isn't fielding as much armour as he could, I will make sure he does, so that my challenge increases, and his chances of winning increases with it. I know the AI isn't a he/she, but sometimes it feels better to humanize my computer adversary! I will start off playing through the grand campaign with the Allies, and afterwards I'll go through it with the Germans. I'll update this post with a link for the German playthrough when it's out there! At the time of writing this, there are 24 episodes currently out, but more will come rapidly, and by the time you read this, there is a good chance the playthrough is finished! Links follow below: Hope you'll enjoy! Don't be afraid of leaving a comment or subscribing - it truly makes my day when people do! Have a good one!
  18. Hello again, good people of VGR! So, I've just started a playthrough of Close Combat 3 The Russian Front on my youtube channel. I'm a seasoned veteran of the series, and will be playing through it on the hardest difficulty. I'll try to offer up some tips and knowledge as we move along through the episodes! This is my favourite CC game of all times, mainly due to the roster system, and the fact that you follow only one army group (your own) through the war, that you can modify, upgrade and replace the composition of as you move along. This is something I wish more CC games would do, as it really gets you more connected to your units. Early on you will, as the Germans, be up against fairly weak Russian forces, but as the campaign progresses, this will, as it did historically, be switched around slowly but surely. Should you choose to play as the Russians, obviously the opposite would be true. In my eyes, this game is truly a gem, and no other CC game has had the same thrilling core mechanics to it since. Unfortunately. Numerous improvements have been made in the franchise, but this always has been, and always will be my favourite. Unless of course they take what really worked with this game and implement it in newer ones of course, but the way thing have been going with the franchise lately, gameplay-wise, I don't see that happening, and I see them continuing down a downhill slope. At least subjectively from my standpoint. Either way! The first episode is linked below! Episode 1 - Barbarossa The rest can be found on my youtube channel, in the Close Combat Playthroughs playlist section. Hope you'll find it a decent watch, if you choose to check it out - and have a good one!
  19. Hello there! I've recently gotten back into the Panzer Corps games - a series of games of which since it's conception I've spent several thousands of hours with! Not to mention the game which it is the spiritual successor of - Panzer General. Both of which are absolute masterpieces in my mind. I've played through all the campaigns on some of the hardest difficulties several times over, not to mention countless mods over the decade(s). I find this game to have great re-playability for a game that does not have randomly generated maps. The vast selection of units and all the situations you get yourself into, makes each playthrough feel different, and make a story of it's own unfold, and I love it! Now, I've decided to take my love for it, and put out a playthrough of each the campaigns on youtube, on one of the bonus difficulties you unlock when you beat the game on the hardest difficulty. I already did this many years ago on my old youtube channel, and apparently for some reason unbeknownst to me, the videos became quite popular, racking up several tens of thousands of views individually. Sadly, for reasons I'm not sure of, I no longer have access to that youtube channel, and the videos are no longer out there. Well. I'm about to fix that! I don't have my hopes up for reaching this amount of views this time around, but I do know this - I will have a damn good time making these videos! That being said - below I'll link you the first episode in the Allied Corps playthrough - the rest can, as you might expect, be found on my youtube channel! Hope you'll enjoy them! I'll be sharing some "tips" and a bit of my experience as we move along through the episodes! Have a good one!
  20. Conquest of Elysium 5! Have you heard about it? I wouldn't blame you if you haven't, I learned about this game's existence myself only a few months back. It's unfortunately quite niche, as this game has wowed me with it's depth, complexity, diversity and re-playability. Among other things. I've put several hundred hours into it over the past few months - the 5th iteration of it released back in August this year. Do you like 4X games? Fantasy/history based settings? Turn-based action? Well, this game has that, and more! It's got several thousand units you can equip your armies with, in addition to countless items and about a couple dozen classes to play with. All feeling quite distinct and unique from one and other. I would argue there is at least one class for every person's likings available in this game. It's also quite affordable! The developers of the game, Illwinter Games, from Sweden - a TWO MAN team(!!!) has been at this game and another called Dominions for a very very long time. They started making games back in the SEGA days. And I gotta say, personally I am extremely impressed what only two people have been able to create! This game is a masterpiece! I only wish I knew it existed sooner! It's even quite affordable on steam, and so far I've gotten veeeeeeery much value for my money. And I intend to get more. It's also got some great humour in it, if you're the kind of guy that can bother reading descriptions of units. One example that had me giggle is the Giant Ant Queen - apparently it is the law of the land to immediately attack these on sight, before they can settle down and make an ant hill. If you can not attack them immediately, you must gather a force that can at the very latest one hour after it's been spotted! (and trust me, you really want to do this, or it will make babies that you'll have to deal with) - this is just one of the thousands of colourful units you can encounter in this game. You can play as, for instance, Senator (A faction based on the Roman Empire.), Dryad Queen (a faction that summons animals of the forest, and protectors of nature to fight alongside it's minotaurs, dryads, centaurs and satyr, among other powerful beings of the wilds.) - you also have everything from goblins and dwarves, to a vast array of caster-focused classes - and an un-believable amount of spells and spell trees to delve into! Heck, I'm just scratching the surface here! You can play as factions based on the Aztecs, feudal lords of Europe, Japanese samurais and so much more! (My favourite class in the game is the Dryad Queen - I love charming my opponents over to fight for my side, and capturing the animals of the forest with my spells and rituals to bolster my armies with moose, bears, boars, elephants, spider, snakes and a whoooole lot more.) The game is massive! There is a lot to learn, so it can be daunting for new players to take on, but once you've played it for a little while, you will start getting the hang of it! And if it at all looks like a game that you would be even slightly interested in - I can damn near guarantee you that you will not regret picking it up! (until you watch the hours you've played it rack up into the hundreds and thousands, and start wondering what the heck you are actually doing with your life.) All that being said - I from time to time play through this game and put out the playthrough on youtube, although mostly I just chill and play for solo enjoyment. That being said - you can also play with your friends in multiplayer! Either way, let me present to you a few playthroughs that I have out of this game on youtube, so you can have a look for yourself and see if you might want to get it! (which if you're anywhere near answering that with "maybe", I'd say do not hesitate, and just get it already!) The first playthrough I want to show you, is with my favourite class, the Dryad Queen. I just vibe so well with this class, it's such an enjoyable gaming experience for me. Below is the first episode in the playlist; Secondly, I want to show you another class I really enjoy - the Necromancer! Raise the dead, summon demons from hades, kill your enemies only to raise them back from the dead and have them fight their previous masters! ...what's not to like about that?? Sincerely - if this at all looks anywhere near your alley - you owe it to yourself to try it out! And to the game developers for making such a masterpiece! Too bad they're not better known than they are. They really have done people who like games like this a great service!
  21. Wages of War! Nostalgia from the 90s in turn-based mercenary form! ❤️
  22. Have you had the joyful experience of growing up in the 90s? Or even being a grown-up in the 90s? Have you then also had the not entirely timeless experience of playing Wages of War: Business of Battle, made by Random Games, and published by New World Computing? If yes - what an awesome experience we share! If no - what were you even doing with your life back then?? Establishing a family??? Busy not even being born yet!?!?!?!? Pffff... This game, although dated by today's standards, and not really aged all that well, was (and still is, in my opinion) a true gem of a game! I shudder at saying it's XCOM-like, or Jagged Alliance-like. It's in the same genre, but it certainly stands on it's own feet! I remember coming over to a friend's place one day, and he had somehow managed to acquire a pirated copy of this game. And we played it. So. Damn. Much. He gave me a copy of it, but over the years I lost it - but not my wish to play the game! So, when I found it in a working condition after some googling, as it is now abandonware, I just had to get into it again! Playing it on a modern computer has it's issues, but nothing game-breaking. So, have you been able to experience this, like me, when it was fresh and new, before it's mechanics got dated? If not, I have a few videos out of it on youtube, and I intend to play through the entire campaign and upload an episode of each of the 16 total missions it has to offer. I've been trying to find some videos over the years of it on youtube myself, but there has never really been any out there. There was for the longest time just a one minute clip of some gameplay, and a video of the intro of the game. There's been some video uploads from an American guy about a year ago, but... and I'm not trying to bash him or anything - the quality of those videos are not the best (probably mine aren't either). In videos of the game, he has the TV running in the background at all times, and even plays other games in the same videos! No! I couldn't take it! I had to make some videos of a proper playthrough myself! And hopefully I have been able to do so in a way that respects the game. Youtube was lacking content on this game, and I will now provide it! Certainly someone can come along and do better - and I encourage anyone to do so! Here is the first couple of videos I've got out - more will start appearing rapidly. Heck, by the time you read this, I might have already finished the playthrough! Let me know; did I respectfully present the game? Do you have any stories from the game yourself that you'd like to share? I'd love to hear about them from someone that might share my fascination for this beauty of a game! Well, that's all I've got for now. Have a good day, folks!

  24. My favourite EA game series can all be found in the series of games EA bought up from say.. Westwood Studios, or tons of other devolpers, crapped all over, messed up beyond belief, and then threw in the garbage. So yeah. EA can sit on my middle finger, to be fair. They're a scumbag company.
  25. I suppose there could be several reasons for that 😛 There are quite a few games in the series, so maybe you've heard of another one? Also some of the games have the same names as war movies, for instance the second iteration of the game - "A Bridge Too Far", which is also the name of an old WW2 movie, starring Sean Connery - may his legendary soul rest in peace!
