Have you ever used the setting? It does smooth the textures somewhat, in turn enhancing some games, albeit it doesn't make much of a difference for most. I've done it before and there is a small noticeable difference. It's not like a big jump, but it's there. And I'd say in some regards it is a small improvement.

I have, but it was one of those settings where I had to look for it, so if I was actually blind tested, I probably wouldn’t be able to A/B it properly.

The PS2 has a texture smoothing feature for PS1 games, it's just kinda confusing to find it. It doesn't improve much, but tries to add smooth lines to the PS1 games you play. You can literally turn on a setting to do it.

That doesn’t actually improve the graphics, or fix the polygon warping that was mentioned earlier.

To be fair, it's also on the PS1, so you're not going to get a great 3D experience that way. And the reason is may look a tad bit better on the PS2, is because the PS2 spruces the graphics up a bit, more clean, but doesn't change much at all. It was also one of the first true 3D horror games. Aside from that, most horror games at the time had poor voice acting, that's kinda to be expected lol.

The PS2 literally does nothing for the visual quality of PS1 games. It doesn’t force the games into 480i, and if you use component cables, you have to go to composite mode on your TV if you pop in a PS1 game.

Idk where people are getting the idea that the PS2 enhances the graphics of PS1 games.

I have often heard thought that gaming on smaller size TV's can be better and many people I know tend to opt for say a 24-inch tv over say a 32-inch television or even higher. It has got me curious though. Is there anyone here who has used a bigger television in the past to game on and they have then switched to a smaller television and found it better?

It varies from game to game for me, and only on the Switch. The full 3D games like BOTW or Xenoblade, 10/10 experience on a big TV.

The games that were made to be played with a portable in mind tend to hurt my eyes on a big screen. Something about the large UI elements and such make it rough on a big screen. Easily fixed by just playing in handheld mode tho.

The issue was more tied to the console than the game because I played it on PlayStation 2 and the graphics was pretty decent.

That’s absolutely not true. The PS2 didn’t magically fix the texture warping on the PS1, it’s still present.

  6. Iirc, this has been a thing for awhile, I remember being at county fairs and seeing them having COD competitions or Guitar Hero setups.

One misnomer about the military (well I'm only speaking for the US military, can't speak for the others), is that just because you sign up, doesn't mean you go to war. Apparently about 10% actually see combat. A lot of the jobs are serving support functions, and a lot of desk jobs.

The DoD is also pretty big in the cyber field, and not many 18 year olds can get realistic hands on experience, with actual industry recognized certifications (all paid for by the government). Most people go to college for several years, then intern, and then eventually actually get to work in a backshop. In the military, it's: "oh, you finished bootcamp, your X months training, and got your cert? Here's a multi-million network suite".

Silent Hill 1. The strange texture warping, the low render distance covered by fog, and the muddy textures really make it all the more creepy. In fact, it's not just the graphics, but the shit controls and poor voice acting also only serve to make the game scarier.

Ironically, everything that normally makes a game age poorly, are exactly what makes that game timeless.

The texture warping was pretty normal on the PS1. The console lacked texture perspective correction.

I never owned the master system, just the genesis and Saturn. What is the difference exactly? Is the genesis the competition for the SNES while the master system is the competition for the NES? Or was it a pal system?

The Master System was their 8 bit console like the NES. They’re kind of rare in North America due to Nintendo’s monopolistic practice that resulted in poor sales here.

You'll see more Europeans talking about it, because Sega hopped over there before Nintendo had the chance to monopolize there like in Japan and North America.

That's a new one to me. I've honestly never heard of this. But then again, I've never really looked into it either. I guess anything that exists can be allergic.

What happens to you guys if you drink?

This is pretty much me in a nutshell

It's technically not an allergy, but since everyone mistakenly calls it one, it's just easier to say it is.

Certain ones affect me more than others, but I haven't really deciphered which ones do better or worse. I can still drink, but I don't do it often because of the body reactions.

Sometimes I get red in the face very quickly, and people think I'm already hammered, and I'm only half a beer in.

YES!!!! Thank you. I knew there was another site. I must have confused it with this new backloggd site, because the name is very similar. But yeah I think I had an account on this years ago, but never used it.

That's awesome. I know there is probably another I'm forgetting. But I think backloggery was the one most people used to track their games.

Ngl, I thought you misspelled Backloggery, but then I clicked the link.

I would love to have Grandia but the Saturn version never was released outside of Japan so I doubt they’d choose it. As for other games, I would want the Panzer Dragoon Trilogy, Nights into Dreams, Sonic Jam, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider.

I own Grandia on the Saturn, but the frame rate is worse than the PS1 version.

That's a good point, because now they can also put in a mix of Japanese only games that released on the Saturn. That's another thing I like about these consoles, because it allows me to play some of these highly rare and expensive games.

Yeah, Panzer Dragoon Saga is one of my favs, but I don’t recommend anyone to buy a Saturn and then drop $1000 for it.

It’s the one console where I own mostly imports, and modded it for burned CD’s. Not like Sega was gonna lose money on games they never re-released.

  13. I’ve moved around a lot, and some major cities I’ve been to actually have dangerous areas, but some were “dangerous” for local standards. I noticed for more of the whitebred states, dangerous was code word for “black people live there”.

One place I lived, people were scared of the side of town that had buildings built 20+ years ago, and didn’t have a Sprouts nearby.

The Operating system of different pc brand is different as the HP uses Microsoft ,dell uses Linux the major difference I Know is that they are developed by different companies and engineers.

Just like you can't spot the difference between a Samsung smart TV and a Hisense smart TV because though they have different company names they still perform similar functions.

A lot of that information is patently false. Most desktop computers and laptops ship with Windows. The exceptions are the Chromebooks, which run Chrome OS (a Chrome dedicated distro of Linux) and Apple's Mac lineup, which run MacOS (which is a Unix OS).

The difference between an HP and a Dell computer is going to be what manufacturer specific software is pre-installed onto it. They usually come pre-installed with random HP, Dell, etc, software on it, but 99% of everything else is going to be Windows.

I bought Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger at Gamestop a couple years ago, and there was nothing but a download code in the box. Typically though games that only have a DDL code in the box say so on the cover.

I know GameStop has some weird stuff like that for some reason. I remember seeing them do that for some 3DS games too for like Virtual Console titles, or even ones that had a real cartridge.

I own a pretty good sized stack of Switch games, and the only download codes are for day one editions that have special DLC. His comment does kind of read off like this is become more frequent, but it’s either some weird GameStop shit, or I’m just not buying the games that are just download codes.

I'm the same way. I am afraid to try and build one on my own because parts are expensive and I don't want to end up doing something wrong to where I end up breaking something in the process. But I know there are some sites that will get you a list of parts suitable for what you want and you can go from there. Still though, the build process is something I would want a tech friendly person around for to make sure I don't mess anything up with my build. 😄

The hardest thing about building computers is the research and (if you don't have the disposable income) coughing up the money. The actual building process is really easy, and not in a "I've been doing this for several years" easy. It's building Legos, and kind of like a puzzle where if it doesn't fit, it doesn't go there, or you put it in wrong. Also don't build it on a carpet because static electricity.
