Games with the most innovative or unique mechanics
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
Did you mean Okami? I never heard of Otaki, but from what you're describing, it seems like Okami to me. -
For some reason this game got popular lately and I've seen it being mention everywhere. I don't really understand it as it's been released in, what, 2013? Seems charming, though.

Steam Space Exploration sale - games up to 90% off!
SpaceExplorer posted a topic in Video Game Deals
If this is not the best themed Steam sale, I don't know what is. :) https://store.steampowered.com/sale/explorationsale/ -
I'd release it as soon as possible, tbh, but I was talking about the game being called Cyberpunk 2077 and it being released on 20/7/7. It's basically free marketing (as if they need it anymore).

I'm excited about the April release, but I was half expecting it would be released on July 7th. You know, 20/7/7. 🙂

Is VR a new trend for E-sports?
SpaceExplorer replied to Aerielle del Rosario's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
Agree with everything @killamch89 said. VR is currently not suitable for esports and the question is when it will be, but with its further development, I'm sure we'll see more of it. -
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/06/06/my-friend-pedro-goes-bananas-this-month/ It's confirmed, the game is coming on June 20th. It's not an Epic exclusive.

Yep, that's the one. Also, there's Mads Mikkelsen who was in Hannibal, Rogue One and Doctor Strange. 🙂

Was just about to post this! Amazing deal for many, many hours of fun. I'd highly recommend getting if you don't have it already. -
What do you want to see from video games the rest of this year?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
Less early access and more single player games. I think last year showed that single player games can indeed sell well. -
Does anyone else care more about story than gameplay?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
As I've said in the other thread, Ori and the Blind Forest has a story that gets you from the start and holds you to the end. That game got everything right. It's my recommendation even to people that don't play video games as much. Bioshock Infinite with both its Burial at the Sea DLCs is also a game that captured me in terms of the story. Especially after playing the prequels. -
Ori and the Blind Forest is a game that got all three aspects right, in my opinion. The story gets you right from the start and continues to hold you to the end. The gameplay is one of the best Metroidvania gameplays I've experienced as it's very fluid and challenging enough to keep you wanting to play more. The setting is visually stunning and the music is wonderful. It's a video game masterpiece that everyone should play at least once. I can't wait for the sequel.

Does anyone else care more about story than gameplay?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
1 - Gameplay, 2 - Story, 3 - Setting. If the gameplay is not interesting, I won't stick around for the story, I'll just read it on the Internet. For me, the gameplay is the essence of a game. I've read/played/saw a lot of good stories to this date that there's only a few that can fully capture my attention in games today. If a game gets all three, though, (gameplay, story, and setting), then I'm instantly hooked to play any other game the developers made or are making. -
Basically, this.

Should microtransactions and loot boxes be banned?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
The DLCs that finish the main story are annoying, yeah. If it adds something new, like a small spin-off story that's not crucial to the main story or required to get to max level, I don't mind it. Borderlands 2 does both of this. They have a DLC that allows you to get to higher levels which sucks, but they have smaller story DLCs that are not crucial to the main story which is nice. -
Should microtransactions and loot boxes be banned?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
As long as the microtransactions don't give you an edge against another player and are purely cosmetic, I don't mind them. They should still be regulated, though, as a lot of companies are exposing people's gambling addictions or are building them. -
Ah, Space Invaders... Takes me back. 🙂 It's one of those games that I hold very close to my heart.

(my post doubled, can't delete this one, sorry)

Many gaming news sites overhyped the game and people overlooked all the good features of it because a lot of promised features weren't in the game at its release. It was still very playable. Off the top of my head, I can name a few features that devs made: Permadeath game mode, third-person view, character customization, new planetary and underwater biomes, underwater buildings and wrecks, new creatures, ability to own multiple ships, ship classes (fighter, explorer, etc.), new customizations and base building parts, 30 or so hours of story content, new shops and traders in space stations, NPC guilds... I'm sure somebody would be able to add some stuff to this. They are also adding the VR support which might draw more people as I'm sure the game will look stunning in VR. Not to mention that they even improved it visually, and it looked great when it came out.

Games that pulled together after a shaky release?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
It averages around 2000-3000 people every day, which is good for that kind of game. There's also a big update coming this summer bringing multiplayer and whatnot, which might pull some people towards the game again. Not to mention that the game looks as stunning as ever. -
Yes, both the 1st and the 2nd one got remastered. Infinite did not, but at the time it didn't make sense to do so either.

I'll be completely honest, I didn't know about GG.deals, but I will take a look at it. Thanks for sharing it!
-
Most of the points I would've said have already been said, so I'd just suggest a site called Is There Any Deal where you can find, as the title suggests, if there's any discount on the games you're looking to buy. Also, avoid preordering and wait for a week or two after the game is released if you're really eager to play it as soon as possible. In that period you'll get the most honest opinions from players and potentially avoid burn from high expectations.

What video games feature the most amazing textures?
SpaceExplorer replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Video Games
Well, I've been playing SPGW waaaay too much lately, so I'd say that game has some visually stunning places and nebulas. I always forget to take screenshots, so I've found this screenshot on the forums instead. No Man's Sky also has some really nice visuals that I enjoy. But yeah, this reminds me that I should really start taking screenshots as some games really look stunning. This way I only have others' screenshots to show... 😶
