Why did it take so long for people to start making good game adaptations?

Recently we’ve had some amazing video game adaptations, whereas for many years, they were notoriously poorly-received on average. What do you think changed?

It was only recently that those working in the film and TV industry started to take video games and thier potential as a creative, storytelling medium seriously.  They looked down thier nose at videos games, the people who made them and most of all the people who played them for years.  Honestly, I actually think it took people who grew up in this world of more mature, story-centric games becoming those producers, directors and writers to have people that actually understood gaming in those positions.  The old guard would still be looking down on gaming even now

I believe studios are now investing more time and resources into these adaptations, focusing on storytelling and character development. It shows!

I think a big part of the shift is that studios are now taking the source material more seriously. In the past, video game adaptations were often treated like quick cash grabs without much respect for the game’s lore or fanbase. Now, creators realize there's a dedicated audience that wants authentic storytelling, and they’re hiring directors and writers who genuinely understand the games they're adapting.
