Kane99 Posted March 31, 2025 Posted March 31, 2025 It seems the mini console craze has sort of died down in recent years. I think the mast big mini console released was like a Commodore 64 style mini console. I think there was also one other I am forgetting about. Do you think this craze of releasing mini consoles is coming to an end? Or could we see more min consoles release in the coming years? Maybe an N64 classic, or something obscure like a Sega Saturn or Dreamcast mini. Now I think the problem with doing this, is that emulation would need to work on a tiny machine, and that's easier said than done for consoles like the N64 and up. Anyway, do you think we're done with the mini console craze? Or could we see more come out in the coming years?
The Blackangel Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I hope to hell it's died. Those things made me sick. Kids would get one and then think they were retro gamers. The things may have been convenient, but it's not actual games from classic systems. There was what? Twenty games installed? Do they even have a clue about any games that weren't installed in it? I hope the crazy is dead and buried.
Scorpion Posted April 3, 2025 Posted April 3, 2025 While the mini console trend seems to be slowing, I don’t think it’s completely over. There's always nostalgia for brands like N64, Sega Saturn, or Dreamcast. However, as you mentioned, the technical challenges of emulation may limit new releases. It will be interesting to see!
killamch89 Posted April 4, 2025 Posted April 4, 2025 MIni consoles are done. It doesn't make much sense to make these when most kids can get portable handheld gaming PCs and get most of those retro games and play them on an emulator.
