Kane99 Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 This is some sad news for any fans of the BIONICLE. I guess there was a fan made video game in the works for the past 8 years by a volunteer dev team known as Team Kanohi, and was close to getting a demo release on Steam before LEGO decided to make the call to have it removed and also scrubbed from public access. They were just finishing up the game too, dealing with bugfixes and polishing things up a bit before the demo release on Steam. If it were to happen, it would have been called BIONICLE: Masks of Power, and would have been released on August 10th of this year. But, it's not all bad news, as it sounds like the team has since rebranded as Unmasked Games and are working on their own IP called Project Rustbound. You can read more about this news here: https://powerupgaming.co.uk/2025/05/18/lego-pulls-plug-on-bionicle-game-after-8-years-of-development/ As well, you can find some gameplay footage for the game below.
Shortie Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 This is sad news, to have worked for 8 years on the game just for it to be shutdown is very sad. I am glad that they have rebranded though and are working on something else, will give those who were waiting for BIONICLE something to look forward to.

I honestly hope that whatever they are working on ends up being a success. I found it strange as well that a game would be in development for as long as 8 years and still had to be closed down. We can only hope it is a success for them, especially after 8 years of work being all for nothing with such a sudden shutdown. The game looks great that they were working on so I do have high hopes for what they are working on now.
killamch89 Posted May 30, 2025 Posted May 30, 2025 I used to love Bionicles as a kid too. I had quite a lot of sets and used to combine them to make some masterpieces. The game looks great but it's a pity it won't see the light of day.
