OpenAI destroys TI8 champions OG 2-0

Recommended Posts

OG lost to the OpenAI Five bots team with a score of 0-2 in an exhibition match. On the second map, the International 2018 champions were defeated in less than 20 minutes.

Both teams picked heroes from a limited hero pool. Unlike previous show matches, OG was permitted to use invisibility, and the OpenAI Five courier was not invulnerable. At the same time, illusions and summoned unit were not allowed.

This is excellent news for AI enthusiasts. The state of AI development is getting better to the point that they could even defeat the champions of a complicated game.

In other news, the World Cyber Games has an upcoming AI robot football tournament. Interested programmers will have the chance to showcase their programming skills and compete against other AI robot programmers. More details about the AI competition here.

I mean, you see the problems starting off so hard right from the get go. Like, for example, why the heck were there so many conditions working against the players? The limited hero pool doesn't make the achievement that enticing.

Juuuust like AlphaStar in StarCraft II. The only reason it had any success is because it was impossibly fast at microing Blink Stalkers, and the only matchup it knows anything about is Protoss VS Protoss. It also only knows one map.

It wasn't even that good under those conditions; whenever the human player did something it never fought before, it crumbled.

Yes, but how exciting can it get when the matches are rigged to fit what the AI wants? It simply doesn't become that impressive anymore

If that is the case, it's not a normal match anymore, it's like WWE. I think WCG will not do a competition against AI like you said, there is no fun in that.

I agree. It's not like the AI is showing adaptive capabilities to deal with a situation which it wasn't programmed in any way to solve. None of these AI tests really convince me at all.
