  1. I feel it's time to come back to the extreme sports style games, like with NFL Blitz and NBA Jam and the Street series. Doesn't it feel like we haven't had those style of games in a while? Most of the games I'm seeing were live service games like that rumble wrestling game and that dodgeball game that dropped a few years ago. I feel were missing out from these franchises. NFL Blitz especially since it was such a blast with the first couple games. NBA Jam and Street are some of my favorite sports games. NFL street too is something I'm surprised hasn't been done. But that's EA for ya, rarely listen to their audience. Do you think we're due for these types of sports games making a resurgence?
  2. With the Red Dead Redemption making its way on the switch, it made me wonder if we'll see GTA IV get the same treatment. I feel as if almost anything could run GTA IV these days, even a switch, so could Rockstar end up releasing a version of GTA IV for the Switch? If they could get RDR1 to work, I could see GTA IV working too. Or would it be a waste for Rockstar to bother with?
  3. With the way Gamestop is going, it looks to be turning into a toy store more than it is a game store. I heard a while back they mostly sell action figures, funko pop figures and gaming collectibles, while their gaming selection seems to dwindle with each passing year. Do you think that Gamestop will soon become just a store to buy collectibles? What is the selection of video games like at a gamestop these days? How far back do they go in terms of consoles? Or do they only sell mostly the new gen games and last gen only? I haven't been in a gamestop in maybe 5 years.
  4. We used to get a ton of games in the Simpsons world, especially at the height of its popularity in the 90s. The show may not be as popular these days, but I still feel as if the show is popular enough to warrant more game releases . I'm sure we got a few mobile games, but Idk If I'd count those. I want games on the level of the Simpsons video game that came out for the 360 and PS3. Or even a remake or sequel to the Simpsons Hit & Run or Road Rage. Don't you think we're kind of due for another adventure game at least? Or maybe even a remaster of some of their classic arcade/retro games.
  5. Has anyone played the new Counter-Strike 2? I didn't know it was a free upgrade to Counter-Strike: GO. I played GO on the 360 back when it released on there, but I was never any good at the game so gave up pretty fast. I remember played the original Counter-Strike and CS: Gold during a LAN party when I was a teen and I thought I would have been good at GO, but that was not the case haha. Anyway, what is the difference between #2 and GO? What does #2 do differently? What additions does the new game have? I doubt I would ever play it myself, the community is too competitive for me, but from what I see, it looks like fans will easily be into this one.
  6. I remember back when release parties were a thing for video games. I went to a few of the Call of Duty release parties, I think they were for MW2 and Black Ops back in the early 2010s or so. My local gamestop would hold a little party where they'd feed us, give us free stuff, and more. I even remember they would give people the displays and posters as prizes at the end of the party. I think they even gave away a console and games. I never won anything though. :( Now days with digital games I don't think we even have release parties. Plus I think Covid stopped it for a good while. Idk, I guess I just miss the release or launch parties they did for new releases. I wish they would do it again, because I'm always down for free food and possibly winning stuff in return for hanging out a while. Do you think we'll ever see release parties again? What midnight release parties did you go to?
  7. This looks like a lot of fun. I wish I could afford to get my hands on a PS5 and a PS VR2 to play this. Reminds me of that Red Steel game for the Wii, the one that tried to make you into some cool sword/gun wielding dude. But this looks bounds better. It has already released, has anyone here played it yet?
  8. I'm surprised no one posted a topic about the upcoming South Park: Snow Day game that drops March 26, 2024. It looks like a co-op tower-defense strategy game mixed with action. I like the choice to go 3D for it, looks much better than I thought it was going to be. Just looks like the show but in 3D. Anyway, I'm not sure this is game is really for me. Not a big fan of this style of game. I'd rather have an adventure game, but that's just me. I'm sure fans will enjoy this game. It's releasing on pretty much everything: PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series S|X.
  9. If you're a collector, do you guys put your retro games in a case? Especially if you have them complete in box? Would you rather use these cases for just cart based games? Or do you also use them for disc based games to help keep them in pristine condition? My collection is not in any protective cases, but I would consider putting them in one if they are in great condition. Of course it also depends on the price for all these protective cases. I know some can be expensive to get. Would you start putting your games into protective cases and sleeves?
  10. Source - https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/21/24010787/microsoft-windows-mixed-reality-deprecated Looks like Xbox is done with AR and VR, at least in regards to making their own VR/AR headsets and devices. Along with this, they removed the Mixed Reality Portal app and Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR. This also looks to include the Hololens. I guess it makes sense for them to move on from VR considering there are so many different headset options out there. Microsoft could easily just use one of the available VR headsets on their hardware.
  11. Are you by any chance worried as a collector with the way retro game prices are rising? I've been wanting to start collecting physical games again, and want to start with retro games from the NES era all the way up to the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era. But I'm even seeing prices for PS3/360 games rising, as it seems to be entering that stage where people are trying to build their collections. Soon enough we'll be hearing about Xbox One and PS4 games rising in price. Are you at all worried that retro games are going to be less affordable? Or will we end up seeing a point where the prices will fall again and collectors can get back to collecting? I also blame the rise of prices to those sites and services like Wata that grade and appraise what retro games are worth, but when I see a mass produced game like Super Mario Bros 3 go for millions, it makes me worried about what other games they can inflate the price of. Sure there may be some games that are worth exactly what they appraise it for, but when one day you could unearth a ton of unopened copies at an old warehouse, that price is going to go down a lot. Sorry for rambling, but I am worried that retro gaming is going to become more unattainable in the future because people think a mass produced game should be worth a ton of money because it's still in the box or something. What do you guys think? Are prices rising too much? Will the drop down soon? Or will the gaming market only keep getting worse from here on out?
  12. Remember back in the day when we got manuals in our game cases? And remember when those manuals had note sections where you could put cheat codes or important hints? Did you ever write in these note sections in your manuals? I did for some games growing up, but when you become a collector, you don't write anything in the manuals. Even if a new game came out with a manual that had a note section, I wouldn't utilize it to write anything. Do you remember writing in your manuals? Did you ever regret doing it later?
  13. Since the recent Insomniac hack, the news on Marvel's Wolverine has blown up. The hack revealed a lot more than just Wolverine, but I wanted to make this topic to discuss specifically the new Wolverine game, what we can expect, what we want, what was leaked, and all that jazz. As you know, a demo build of the game leaked, and I hear if you search for it, you can download and play it. Do that at your own volition, I won't tell you where or how to find it. But if you don't want to take that risk, there is video of the game in action, although there is clearly a lot of work to be done as animations looked half finished. But it still gives us an idea of what this game might look like. You can watch the video below. You can read more about the Wolverine leak as a whole here, what was leaked etc - https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/leaked-gameplay-footage-from-marvels-wolverine-pc-dev-build/ Now, lets discuss what this game can be. Do you see it being similar to the Spider-Man games? It does look pretty fast from the gameplay and movement, but clearly looks a lot more violent. I heard it'll be M rated, so that's to be expected. I hope the violence is on par or even better than what we got with that last Wolverine game, was it X-Men Origins: Wolverine? I just want them to show battle damage to Wolverine just like in that game. Always thought that was cool. Do you think they will have Spider-Man appear? I assume some of the X-Men will be featured, who do you think we could see?
  14. A developer of the game Alien Resurrection revealed recently that there is a cheat code you can enter that allows you to boot up burned discs, completely skipping the process of modding your PS1 console. This method means you don't need to mod your PS1 anymore to play burned discs. This was revealed 20+ years after the games initial release, so this exploit was present all this time. You also don't need a memory card for it to work. Since the exploit was revealed though, the prices for the game seemed to have gone up some. Right now a complete in case version goes for well over $100. But be cautious, when I searched for the game they also showed Alien Trilogy, which has a very similar cover art, so that almost confused me. So if you want to play burned discs and don't want to deal with modding a PS1 and possibly damaging old hardware, this is an option for you. Hopefully you have a copy of Resurrection on hand. I suppose it's good to have this option. Has anyone here modded a PS1 before? Bear in mind that it's still piracy to burn games you don't own, so do this at your own volition. You can read more about this here, along with how to do the exploit - https://hothardware.com/news/alien-resurrection-softmod-cheat MVG made a video about it that you can watch below.
  15. I was asked recently by a friend to help with a video game he was going to try making. He of course is new to game development, but has coding knowledge. I don't know what engine he was using to make his game, I know it was a free to use one and was more meant for smaller games. He wanted to make a farming game, like we haven't seen more than enough of that already. Anyway, I didn't know what I could have added to the project, so he asked if I wanted, I could draw up the maps and create the world. But I didn't want to learn the program to do it haha, so never got to it. Of course we never agreed to me working on it, he just asked a few times. But the idea of helping did cross my mind a few times, thinking it would be cool to be part of a games design. Which brought me to this topic idea, have you ever done any work on a video game? Maybe a friends, or you did some work on a major title that no one knows about. Have you ever done any type of work? Even small.
  16. Bobby Kotick is an awful CEO. He knew about misconduct in the workplace, especially there being alleged sexual abuse and assault in his staff, even letting allegations go overlooked I hear. Well finally he is stepping down as CEO by December 29th. He was kept on as CEO for 2023 during the acquisition by Microsoft, but all that is done and over with so now they can get rid of him. I hope he was forced out, but according to the news he is just stepping down. Good riddance! https://www.gameinformer.com/2023/12/20/activision-blizzard-ceo-bobby-kotick-steps-down-next-week
  17. VR isn't for everyone, some people can't handle VR for long periods of time, while some people can handle VR more than others. For me, I think I can handle VR for a long time, but I do get eye strain and tired out from playing for long periods of time. At least when I can play. The longest VR session I had, was playing RE4 a while back. I played close to however long the battery life lasts on a Meta Quest 2. Maybe a couple hours. But, I wouldn't mind trying to wear one all day, especially if it's the Meta Quest 3 for the AR features.
  18. Well this is a cool story. A Nebraska man is finding out he might be a millionaire as he has tons of sealed games from a game store he owned in the 90s. He sadly had to close his gaming store down back in 1998, and was originally going to sell off the remaining stock in a sale, but instead decided to package up 300 or so games, all sealed, as he thought there may be some worth to these games in the next decade or more. He moved these games to a storage locker and sort of forgot about them. He was going to leave them to his nieces and nephews, but his brother ended up going through the storage unit and got some of them checked over by a local game store. They are now helping him sell the lot and it's estimated to be worth around $1M. I really wish I took better care of my stuff growing up. But as a gamer, I doubt I'd ever keep my games in the wrap anyway. But yeah, if you happen to have been a previous store owner, and kept some stock for later, I'd check to see what you have. You never know. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/he-closed-a-video-game-shop-decades-ago-his-games-could-sell-for-1m/ar-AA1lJ5gt
  19. The Walking Dead has a spotty record for video games, you got good ones from the Telltale series, and you got a bad one with The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, but then you get a good game like Saints and Sinners, and then fall back down with something as bad as The Walking Dead: Destinies. The newest bad game in a confusing mess of good to bad games. The telltale games will always have a special place in my heart. The first season alone is one of my favorite games. And I need to play the final season yet, but will get to that one of these days. I even played the Survival Instinct game around the time it came out, even joke gifted it to my niece who was a fan of the show at the time. That game was awful and when I saw Destinies I was immediately remined of it. But from what I saw in this new game, this looks far worse. I haven't played the new game and I don't intend to. It looks like an absolute chore to get through, and it doesn't look any bit fun. Sure the wonky static cutscenes, cringey looking character models and voice acting may provide some laughs for a bit, but I imagine it doesn't help the game for long. If you haven't seen the game in action, just have a look at the video review to get an idea of what you'd be getting into.
  20. Another leak from the recent Insomniac Games leak, is that the new X-Men franchise that is being worked on, will be a Sony exclusive for 10+ years. This means each new X-Men game that drops, it will be exclusive to Sony consoles. There may be some wiggle room for PC gamers though, as Sony has been known to still release exclusives to PC at a later point. But otherwise, that leaves out Xbox and Nintendo. The good news is that it sounds like Wolverine and other X-Men can appear on other consoles in crossover games, but games based on said characters will stay on Sony consoles. Source - https://kotaku.com/marvel-x-men-wolverine-insomniac-deal-leak-1851111368 I figured with the way Sony handles Spider-Man, they'd follow the same with other Marvel franchises like Wolverine and X-Men. I do wonder how that works though with Disney owning Wolverine and X-Men. They must have to work with them to get this sort of deal long-term.
  21. https://gamingbolt.com/insomniac-games-has-made-just-567-off-sunset-overdrive So yeah, article above, but to summarize a bit, Sunset Overdrive didn't make a ton of money for Insomniac games back when it released in 2014 for the Xbox One. It later released on the PC in 2018 and wasn't it supposed to come to PlayStation at some point? Anyway, their budget for the game was $42.6M, and they only made in net sales $49.7, selling 1.9M units. Which isn't a whole lot considering the original budget. What's worse is their share in the profit, since this was an exclusive to Xbox at the time, it looks like Xbox got most of the profits, as Insomniac only received $567. Which is crazy to me. How does a studio not be paid majority of the pie? This news came out of the recent Insomniac Games/Sony leak that happened. I'm going to guess we're never going to see a sequel to Sunset Overdrive after this bit of news.
  22. If you watched the recent trailer to GTA VI, you'll notice one of the characters in the trailer looks like a Joker copycat. The man is technically real and he goes by Florida Joker or Miami Joker. He intends to sue Rockstar for using his likeness in the recent trailer. He clearly has no foot to stand on in this case, as Rockstar can simply say it's parody and move on. Plus with the lawyers and money behind them, this guy has no chance of winning a case against him. He wants at least $2M, and we know that's not going to happen. Remember when Lindsey Lohan tried to sue Rockstar for a similar reason, that didn't end up going anywhere, this won't either. https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/florida-joker-demands-2-million-over-gta-6-parody-red-dead-2-actor-fires-back/ar-AA1ll3w4 Even Arthur Morgan voice actor Roger Clark commented on the story and said this guy is not going to get paid, and said he should instead use this new found notoriety and capitalize off of it. - https://brobible.com/culture/article/red-dead-redemption-2-star-responds-florida-joker-gta-vi-demands/
  23. I'm sure a lot of us here have gotten a console for Christmas one time or another. What was your favorite console that you opened up during Christmas? For me I think it was when my brother and I got a PS1 and a bunch of games. My dad purchased a used PS1 from someone and also got a ton of games with it, a lot of which were never even opened. The second best was when we got a PS2. What console was your favorite present during Christmas?
  24. This looks kind of cool. The gameplay looks a bit stiff, but I'm hoping they iron some things out before release. I like the idea of a parkour style game mixed with obstacle courses. I just hope they work on the movement, because it doesn't all all too appealing to me. Does remind me a bit of creative mode in Fortnite though. If they somehow get the movement in line with games like Watch Dogs 2, then this will be great! It is expected to drop in late 2024, no official release date as of yet. You can view the steam page below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1959580/Supermoves/
  25. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/12/19/metro/james-mccaffrey-65-max-payne-rescue-me-actor/ I'm hearing he was battling cancer, had no idea. He just had worked on the recent Alan Wake II and I had assumed he would be back to portraying Max Payne someday. He was only 65 years old. RIP to a good one! He had such an iconic voice, he really made Max Payne sound cool.
