Every 3-4 years. I tend to buy a high end Gaming Laptop so it'll end up lasting longer. If you don't know what your doing and you start modifying specifications on a Laptop and taking it apart you could end up corrupting data or even worse, breaking the machine if your not careful. Which provider are you with? Are you on a monthly fixed contract or are you paying as you go? What's the specifications for your mobile phone if you don't mind sharing? That's the problem, data can be used very quickly if your streaming or downloading heavy content. Finding a package with higher data could be an idea. There are alternatives and the two that I can recall are AMD and Intel. They're both good graphic cards companies and they have still got a lot of strength and potential for consumers. Although, my opinion is that NVIDIA is the best one to choose for the primary use of gaming and streaming.
