Kane99 Posted May 16, 2025 Posted May 16, 2025 Source - https://www.dexerto.com/gaming/marathon-called-out-by-artist-claiming-bungie-blatantly-stole-her-art-3196320/ An artist recently accused Bungie of stealing her artwork for the game Marathon, alleging they had copied her work without her permission. It's said the designs in the game are similar to her own creations. And it seems that Bungie has admitted to the theft, though Bungie claims it was a former employee of theirs who did it without authorization or something. So it seems that Bungie is working with the artist. Hopefully they pay her fairly for the work, because there seems to be a lot of of her art used in game.
killamch89 Posted May 24, 2025 Posted May 24, 2025 I agree. These gaming companies are so scummy. Just stealing stuff without giving the proper rewards to the independent people's work that they use. She should be rightfully compensated.
Shagger Posted May 24, 2025 Posted May 24, 2025 Been hearing a lot on this the last week or so. Simple problem to fix, pay the artist, amend the credits to include the artist, that's the end of the matter, that's it fixed. What really bothers me about this is the fact this has happend before at Bungie. That tells me that there is something wrong in the culture of the company that makes this accepable. So I don't care if this is was the actions of a former employee or if that's just Bungie saying something to distance themselves from this, they still have a serious problem.
Shortie Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 I hate to hear this. Many put so much work into art and for companies to be as scummy as this and use it without either paying them or giving them credit. I do hope they change things and give her credit for the work.
Scorpion Posted June 28, 2025 Posted June 28, 2025 This is a concerning situation. It's good Bungie acknowledged the issue, but blaming a former employee doesn't fully absolve them. Artists deserve proper attribution and compensation. This highlights the ongoing challenges of protecting intellectual property in the creative industry.
