    ZandraJoi reacted to killamch89 in Do you like reality TV shows? Why or why not? If so, which ones?
    Most reality TV shows suck and the reason they suck is because they aren't real in the first place. The participants are paid to act out scenes, there paid actors involved that you can find some of them with a simple Google search and almost all of them are about BS. What's your opinion on reality shows?

    When I wear out something to the point that the condition is unwearable, I usually turn the t-shirts into dish towels, and the jeans I give to my brother (not blood) to use when he works on his cars. He is always needing rags of some kind, and he loves denim. His wife, my sister (again not blood) hems the denim pieces all the way around for him so he doesn't get strings of the fabric in the engines. Recycle, reuse, reduce.

    That's a good way to go about it and other than a few select brands (due to fit), I'm not really that crazy about brands either. I buy most of my clothes brand new because most thrift places in my country don't follow established protocol when accepting clothes.

    My paternal side is Scottish while my maternal side is hispanic/black but I hardly know any Spanish (been teaching myself recently) or Latin. I also don't have the Scottish accent lol.

    Funny story, my Dad's side of the family is from Scotland but I'm glad I didn't inherit the accent. Have you ever tried to have a conversation with one? Their accent and pronunciations will definitely have you convinced that the both of you are speaking different languages.

    I'm not into brand names. I'm for getting a good deal as well as comfort. I get most of my clothes from garage sales or thrift shops. You find so many good deals there. Sometimes they are brand new! I also tend to wear my clothes out then they are cut up as rags. I'm not one who needs to have several pairs of something.

    One rule is to be myself & not let peer pressure get in there. I also don't eat for 13 hours during the night (intermittent fasting). I exercise daily, even if it's walking & stretches. Take time for my furbabies & husband. I don't take crap from others.

    @DarthVanity I never realized that! You are right though! lol I love how Leeloo says "Multipass" with her accent. Anybody use IMDB.com & look at the trivia, goofs there? Another trivia: The "Divine Language" was created by Luc Besson & he & Milla Jovovich talked to each other & wrote notes back & forth.

    Some have photographic equipment in their telescopes, and others simply hold their phone up to the lens and use its camera. This one however, if I remember correctly, was taken by someone that had camera equipment installed in their telescope. I would have to go back to reddit and find the post to be sure. But that would take forever and a day to do.

    The brains behind The Fifth Element would have been better off adding a sixth element - common sense - to the plot, and allowing it to form a bridge between the film's fantastic visual appeal and its ramshackle plot.
    Bruce Willis was good back then in most great films that people like, not like now. I do not know why he's going down a hole right now with films in the last two years. Bruce Willis has been doing acting in cheap and crap films.

    Loved this movie! Watched it a lot growing up. We used to quote probably everything Milla Jovovich's character said. I enjoy it. It has charm and is incredibly different compared to a lot of sci-fi which is what I find endearing about it. I wanted more Gary Oldman though. Not sure if you knew this OP but in this movie the good guy Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) never once runs into the badguy Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman). I thought that was a fun fact. I also really loved the opera scene/Leeloo kicking butt.

    "Leeloo Dallas multipass!"

    I've watched it several times. I have the DVD somewhere around here. It's not bad. Willis did a pretty good job in it. Not his best work, but definitely not his worst either.
    My vote for his worst would be a tie between The Sixth Sense, and the entire Die Hard series, as all those movies were simply god awful.
    My vote for his best would be Armageddon. The Last Boy Scout was a damn good movie too.

    Imagine all the resources used if we didn't sleep. 7 billion people awake at all times? Your internet would always be slow, pollution, animals going haywire, energy consumption, and government will have the jobs make you work 12 hours a day to keep you busy and out of trouble. More taxes for them to be made off of you. So you think you would have more time, but your fellow greedy society will force long labor hours. And you wouldn't complain because the prices of everything will have gone up 400% so you would need to work those long hours and end up in the same boat you are in now. Kids will live in school half the day. Colleges will make you take 4 extra classes a semester and you are left studying longer hours. Get smarter and more skilled? Sure. Only the rich will benefit.
    If everything stayed the same and I didn't sleep, I would probably do the same thing I do now and entertain myself through games, books, shows, and play with my animals. If you don't work on your projects now, what makes you think you will with more time? Is time your motivation? It's not mine. If there is something you want to do, find what will motivate you and do it. Time will work its magic for you.

    @Empire
    You're not going to get too much for $400. Decent looks at the moon, and maybe a bit of a clearer look at Mars due to how close it is to Earth.
    @killamch89
    I would recommend a Celestron NexStar. Mine is a 5se which means it has a 5" lens. @ZandraJoi has an 8se which means she has an 8" lens. Hers is more powerful than mine obviously, but I still have a great look at the solar system, and several things beyond, such as nebulae and a few other galaxies. Andromeda is really amazing to see. It's also easy to spot since it's the closest galaxy to the Milky Way. There are others that, if you time it right, you can get a shot of them in one.
    Here's a pic of Andromeda that was taken through by a simple astronomy lover, like myself and @ZandraJoi through their telescope.

    Fascape was the first SciFi show I ever watched and it got me hooked. That's how I moved onto SG1, SG Atlantis, BSG and Star Trek. Ben Browder and Claudia Black, both Farscape vets, joined the SG1 cast when Richard Dean stood down from the show. Super awesome show to check out too even if it's a little older. SG Atlantis was my favourite of the 2 though.

    We just have Netflix. We recently dropped the DVD portion as they didn’t have enough of what we wanted. Didn’t save us much money but it’s something. We’ve had it for years & is the only streaming service we’ve tried. I have however researched some alternatives out there i.e. Hulu.

    Mine is a bit smaller than yours. It’s a Celestron NexStar 5se. I have no issues with it, and can see nebulae in detail, as well as our solar system. I can track exoplanets well with it. I’ve watched a couple minor asteroid collisions. They weren’t anything big or uncommon. It was in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. So it was just a days work in the belt. I’m looking for a good solar filter to study the sun, but I’m not in any kind of rush. My favorite nebula is The Pillars Of Creation. If you can’t tell, I love astronomy. I always have. When I was a kid, there were often meteor showers in the summer. Most were roughly around 3:00AM, so I would set my alarm to wake me up to watch and then I would fall asleep in the yard watching the shower. Something related to astronomy that is number one on my bucket list is a trip to the arctic circle, (north Alaska most likely) so I can see the northern lights.
