Hi Guys! Kim here. I am 50 and not afraid to tell people this. I am married and mom of two girls. Both of them are in their 20s. I am a writer, YouTuber, Simmer, and so much more. Don't be afraid to say hello. I don't bite.

    Hi. I'm 56. Welcome.

  2. How many of you have downloaded and played the free to play games offered on various platforms? Which ones do you like?

I myself have had Fortnite. It was fun for a while but the hackers ruined the experience for me altogether. Plus the Switch isn't a good platform for competitive shooter games. I tried FallGuys and it was fun but really tough to win at.

I got Ninjala and have had that for a while. Didn't play much. But I've gone back to that. It's fun cuz I can beat the hell outta people. *Grins* They also added Knockout City which I'm not sure if I can manage to play it but I'm gonna try cuz it looks like fun. I also got Sky: Children of the Light. Haven't started on that yet.

I've had some others but they were all shooters or Paladins.

I normally like some games where you can build things but I think it's the blockey graphics that puts me off. When you've been spoilt by all this character detail in other games even in 2008, Minecraft just doesn't appeal to me all that much.

yeah i don't like the graphics either

Am I the only one here who remembers a time when the internet didn't exist? When I was growing up, there was no internet. Computers were restricted to government agencies, unless you were incredibly wealthy. Computers had tubes, just like their monitors. In the early days, 16k memory was a tower the size of a grown man. For those too young to remember, 16k was the average size of any random image back then. So as a kid, I was playing outside. I was running around and playing with no form of technology aside from my cassette tapes and vinyl records.

The internet is younger than most people think. I was in my mid teens before it came into being. I'm much older than the internet, and to be honest, I miss the days when technology didn't rule our lives.

I am older than the internet. My first computer was set in front of me and turned on and I had to figure it out from there. LOL!

We played outside but had to be at home and inside by the time the street lights came on in the summer. School nights we did homework and had to be in bed by 8. Summer nights we had to be in bed by 9.

We played with toys, drank from the garden hose, rode bikes, went for walks, went to the park, I played with Barbies, we ran through the sprinkler cuz the folks couldn't afford the pool. We played at other kids houses. We didn't have cell phones or internet. We also talked to people more. Now I barely speak to anyone because they never make chatter cuz they're buried in the smart phones. If they do let ya talk to them they're not listening. It affects every aspect of their lives because they can't turn them off to do anything. Plus they're always in their pockets.

  5. Themselves mostly. They talk themselves up but when it comes time to deliver the goods they are useless. If you're gonna tell people how great you are at your job and then turn around slack off then that's a waste of my time to listen to.

    Eye roll city!

  6. Actually from what I've been reading the price of the games is based on popularity. Nintendo gamers aren't stupid. I pd. for both a physical and digital copy of Animal Crossing New Horizons because of the fact that I had two Switches and wanted both because I love the game that much. I can get the digital copy out and make a 2nd island on the other Switch. I have also found that many of the games no matter what the price just flat out suck a**. Also Nintendo has lots of games that go on sale after a while. If you're willing to wait I'm sure eventually the stuff will go down in price. There's also free to play games available on Switch and they keep adding more. I stick with the standard editions and don't buy deluxe or anniversary or any other special editions because that's when the price gets jacked up.

Hey Everyone - How's the week been?

More seasonable temps but very busy at work. I work in the environmental services dept. in a hospital that's fairly busy all the time. They've been busy discharging people to end their fiscal year so we been getting slammed with checkouts to clean. Otherwise it's been good. How's yours been killa?

On PC, a game with Denovo DRM increases the recourse requirements of a game through hogging the RAM on your system, reducing the frame rate buy a significant amount. A game that would run at around 60 fps, could run at an unstable 40 fps because of how Denovo install's in the background on your system and runs on your hardware. I've played games on Gamepass and Ubisoft+ on PC, and the check ones connection to the premium service every time you decide to play a game, but once you pass that check, the game runs fine. Denovo is different because hat DRM hurts innocent gamers.

premium service meaning the fastest internet they have?

yeah enterprise licenses are a bit hard to work with. 😅

also, according to what I read from how to geek's article below, about Denuvo being cracked in 24 hours, that happens most of the time, but the longest before a game was cracked was 99 days for Assassin's Creed origins. 👇

🔵 What Is Denuvo, and Why Do Gamers Hate It?

i will say this after reading that...if they bring this to the switch and it screws up my game play i will probably consider quitting gaming. i'm not forkin out all this money just to have games crashing or not be fast enough to play.

Did you buy it or was it the reviews that you saw?

I bought it and many of the other players are very unhappy with it. Some of the controls don't work and there's no gameplay guidance at all. There's quests for stuff that you don't get til later in the game but the time runs out on them I guess. And building/designing furniture is a mess I guess and it's frustrating players to the point where they don't want to play.

Somehow, I knew somebody would not read what I said properly. If you had understood what I said you would see that opening sentence from you is pretty much a summery of my entire statement. So I'm not gonna bother with a rebuttle. If my post isn't worth reading then I'm sorry, but why should I show the same respect in kind?

I read it but I obviously don't understand it. My apologies.

  12. I disagree. Chess itself isn't art but the pieces can be and so can the board obviously.

Video games are digital art, music, & motion.

TIME magazine article on video games

In the above link it talks about this subject matter.

    Here's part of it:

"As an art form that has only existed in the digital space, video games are truly a collision of art and science. They include many forms of traditional artistic expression—sculpture in the form of 3D modeling, illustration, narrative arcs, and dynamic music—that combine to create something that transcends any one type.

Video games are also the only form of media that allows for personalizing the artistic experience while still retaining the authority of the artist. In video games we find three distinct voices: the creator, the game, and the player. Those who play a game are following the story of the author and are bound by the constructs of the rules—but based on the choices they make, the experience can be completely personal. If you can observe the work of another and find in it personal connection, then art has been achieved."

I think to say that video games are not a form of art is totally discounting all the artistic elements that go into these games. No offense. JMO.

Yeah, I relate to this topic and its OP so much because I've always felt this way. I've always been a single player gamer, and the few times I did play multiplayers, I'd either suck at it (Counterstrike) or just got burned through conflict with other players (World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic). I don't get along with people very well in life outside of gaming either, so social interaction has always been a big hurdle for me. I keep trying, particularly with forums like this, because humans are inherently social creatures whose social needs are as important as our needs to eat and drink, but I've failed more often than I succeeded in keeping close to a community without ending up in some argument. Even in this forum, I've argued with someone in just the short time since I've joined. I hate conflict like that; I'd much rather spend my time relaxing in some single player game.

I don't find it particularly boring either, single player games, because I'm a weirdo who found more emotional attachment to fictional characters than with real people ever since I was a kid. Being in a virtual world feels more fun to me than deal with the real life drama of real people, especially in our day and age when everyone's gotta argue about politics or gender/racial tribalism.

Same here. I actually did better in fortnite by myself. But I started having heart trouble so I set those games aside. I don't need the extra stress. Plus with all the hacking it became no fun anymore. I don't even like multiplayer in my cozy games that much either. I had a very aggressive person visiting my ACNH island and she freaked out on me because I wouldn't let her in certain places like my house at the time cuz I had lots of stuff laying out that she could've picked up. I had to close out messenger cuz she was chewing me out and I had to kick her off my island. I'm not used to socializing in video games and it's sometimes just as awkward as face to face conversations.
