How reliable do you think professional game reviews are?
Shortie replied to Scorpion's topic in Gaming Forum
This tends to be a mixed bag when we see game reviews from professionals. In some cases, I have known the game reviews to be quite accurate but then I have come across some game reviews that have been not so accurate. This is one of the reasons I don't always take reviews as a final decision for games and instead will take a look at those playing the game live or those who have made videos as they tend to be more accurate. -
What is your definition of a "cozy game"? What makes it cozy?
Shortie replied to Scorpion's topic in Gaming Forum
A cozy game to me is something that I can chill out on, relax and just do little things that don't take too much skill. One game I would class as being cozy would be Animal Crossing: New Horizons. That game is chill, relaxing and there is so much you can do that helps you chill out. -
I would have to say that PUBG is one game that I found to be overrated. I remember when it was newly released and everyone was playing it and as much as I was interested in it due to the gameplay and also the popularity of the game, once I did play it, I couldn't really see the appeal and found it to be more overrated than anything else. I feel with PUBG, it was the movement and how slow the gameplay was that put me off.

This past Halloween I saw so many people playing Phasmophobia and that seemed to be the most popular one. I have not played Phasmophobia myself but from those I know of who have played it, they say it is worth playing and great if you are looking for something scary to play on Halloween.

Do you prefer games with or without AI companions?
Shortie replied to Scorpion's topic in Gaming Forum
I don't mind playing games with or without AI as long as the AI is implemented well into the game and it does not cause issues with the game or make it so that the game becomes difficult due to their actions. Fortnite is one where I feel the AI need work, you can hire certain characters in the game to help you but I tend to avoid that as they tend to do things that alert you to enemies or glitch out causing you to be seen. -
I have played many games that have been either bleak or grim and I have found that as long as I know that is what is involved in the game and I know what to prepare myself for, I have no issues playing games like this. I do know for some people grim or bleak games are a no-go due to how it makes them feel, I would probably be the same but I check before I play any games that seem to be quite grim or bleak so that I know.

If I remember rightly, I believe the first game that I got on Steam was Left 4 Dead 2 as I wanted to play and have the ability to use mods on the game. I will admit, as much as I do have steam, I don't use it as much as I would have liked to due to limited time for gaming.

The last game I played was Fortnite just last night to check out the new season. I will admit, I am glad this season is a short one as I am not a huge fan of Star Wars but will play through the battle pass to collect the vBucks 🙂

This is a tough one as you will always get gamers who prefer to see the games stay as they are but then you will get younger gamers who play these games, and complain because things are not the same anymore due to the shift in society. I personally prefer to see the games stay as they are regardless of the shift in society.

It is a fun game to play with a lot to do. I always find myself playing it just to chill out and play something different if I am starting to burn out on another game. I love the different events and game modes they have going on 🙂

This is a game that would be ideal for my eldest son. He is a huge football fan and also loves VR and plays a lot. I know he was playing a football game for some time a few weeks ago but it didn't seem like it needed a lot of space for movement. Looks as though this game would need a lot of space and would mean a lot of activity.

How Long Until VR Becomes Mainstream for All Types of Entertainment?
Shortie replied to killamch89's topic in Virtual Reality
I will admit, I am actually surprised that we are now using VR for more social experiences yet. I know with VR at the moment there is the option to do some things such as I believe YouTube is available and I heard that Netflix may be as well so that is a start. I would say with the way things are developing, we could be a few years to maybe 5 years away from seeing advancements in VR technology giving users the ability to use VR for more than just gaming. -
I find VR to be immersive enough that I don't feel the need to want to play with a group of friends, playing alone when I do I find enough and I enjoy my time playing on the VR. My youngest son does have a group of friends he knows, friends from school and from our neighbourhood who he plays with and he enjoys playing in a group when they are online.

My youngest son asked me today if I could renew Meta Quest + for this month as there was a game he wanted to play on there so I did. I noticed this game on there and was quite curious about it. My kids love to play sports games and have played Nintendo Switch Sports a lot since we purchased that around three years ago now, this could very well be a game that they enjoy in VR. Will let them know and get them to check it out.

Full-Body Movement vs. Seated VR Gaming: Which Do You Prefer?
Shortie replied to killamch89's topic in Virtual Reality
I have only used a VR headset a few times but have used one both with full body movement and seated and I have found that I much prefer to be seated when playing than standing with full body movement. I found that when I was doing full body movement, it made me dizzy and a little nauseous whereas seated was a lot different. -
I do feel that developers of VR games should take a little more time to offer health warnings in their games. I do know some of them do have health warnings but it's usually for a few things and does not cover everything. If developers were to make health warnings with all possible health issues that could occur, that would be a lot better for those who use VR headsets to know and be aware.

I haven't played this game but it does look interesting. I am surprised that my two sons who play a lot of VR have not mentioned this yet as it seems like something they would play. Going to mention it to them and let them take a look.

Can VR be used to collaborate on art projects in virtual studios?
Shortie replied to killamch89's topic in Virtual Reality
I would say with how far Virtual Reality has come, there would be huge potential if it was able to offer options for artists around the world to meet, collaborate and even share their work. I would imagine that having something available like this on VR as well if it were possible, it would also open up a whole new avenue for their work to be seen by millions around the world. -
I love farm games and tend to play them a lot. I have one on my mobile phone that I play a lot and Farmville 3 is another I used to play a lot too. This game looks like something I could play for hours to pass the time so have added it to my Nintendo Switch wishlist to pick up when I know I will have more time to play 🙂

My top 3 favourite video game genres at the moment as it stands would have to be platform games, battle royale games and racing games. I have been spending a lot of time playing games like Fortnite, Stumble Guys, Fall Guys and am really enjoying them.

I will be honest and say that I have not played any really old pc games in such a long time. I have often thought about going back and playing games such as The Secret of Monkey Island as I loved that game but have not gotten around to it.
-
This is a good question and one I hadn't thought about until now. Thinking about how much gaming I do now and how many games I would still love to play through and complete, I do feel that I would regret not having spent more time playing through the games I wanted to if the world ended today. Due to work and other IRL things, my time spent gaming has dropped quite a lot and I do hope to increase it at some point.

What past game deserves a sequel that hasnt had one yet?
Shortie replied to Scorpion's topic in Gaming Forum
Bully is a game that I know many would love to see a sequel to but so far, Rockstar games have not made any announcements and I don't believe there is anything in the works either with GTA VI being worked on. My two eldest sons both played Bully and they would love to see a sequel, often ask me about it but have to keep telling them there is nothing as of yet. -
Do you ever set self-imposed challenges when playing videogames?
Shortie replied to Scorpion's topic in Gaming Forum
I find that I am always creating myself some kind of challenge when I am playing a video game. I have always been someone who loves to work towards a challenge so creating them for myself is quite easy. Examples are completing a level first go, and completing a level and beating my best time. My daughter and I enjoy setting ourselves challenges in Fortnite, one that we did recently was to win a game only using shotguns and that was a lot of fun to do.
