The Blackangel Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) I myself don’t play many first person games, but that’s not to say that I never play any. Hexen has been a long time favorite of mine. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s Doom, but medieval/fantasy style. Other games that have the option of first or third, I have to play it third. I just can’t really see anything in first person, which is why I don’t play a lot of them. However I did recently pick a new one up. I preordered Pneumata. It’s a first person game, and honestly, IT’S FREAKING AWESOME! I’ve heard some say it’s Layers Of Fear meets TLOU. I have no idea since I can’t play TLOU, but so far I’ve come across nothing that would be a trigger. I’m starting to warm up to first person. It seems the market is really warming up to it too. The only thing that prevents me from really diving in is the ability to see my surroundings. If it wasn’t for that, I’d probably have a lot more first person games in my library. If you’re wondering about how @Rain Dew feels about first person, she can’t and won’t play them. She played a dinosaur game (probably JP. I’d have to ask) that was first person when she was a kid that gave her nightmares. She often got attacked by velociraptors from behind and it absolutely terrified her. So now, and rightly so, she will have nothing to do with first person. I would say my favorite first person game is Layers Of Fear: Legacy. I would love to know what your favorite is and why as well. killamch89 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I can see how first-person games could be a bit much for some people. It really depends on the setting and mechanics. I think a lot of people like them because of how immersive they can be especially when it feels like you’re actually in the world of the game. I haven't played Pneumata yet, but I’ll have to check it out now. I’ve gotten back into Dishonored recently, the stealth and exploration aspect is really well done.
Shagger Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 The type of game in question is the factor for me. First person perspective is nice for shooters and horror games, but is not great for strategy, melee combat, platforming and dedicated stealth games.

You do have exceptions like Dead by Daylight and Dishonored that are great at platforming, stealth and Melee combat but your point is mostly valid.
Rain Dew Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 @The Blackangel is right. It was just a dinosaur hunting game and I was hunting some herbivores when a Velociraptor attacked me from behind and scared me to death.

StaceyPowers Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 For me, third person games are the ones that make me feel like I can’t see. I can see around my character, but I can’t walk up to things and see their small details. First person is how I experience RL, so it feels more immersive and real to me in a game too. It also doesn’t make me dizzy. killamch89 1

Scorpion Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I'm a hesitant first-person player, but Pneumata's unique blend of atmosphere and storytelling has won me over! I love that it's slowly converting me to the dark side.
