Is rap genre being watered down?

Rap songs of old are made of hard punchlines. Lines that would make one stand up from their sit to give a clap. It seems it is not the same nowadays with rap about drugs and money being the in thing. Don't it sound strange, or am I the one overthinking this?

It's definitely been watered down since the early 2000s. In addition to that, most of the modern rappers aren't talented in any way whatsoever.

It is more like most modern rappers are just talking about women and drugs without making songs that connect more with the soul. I've missed those raps of old, I am telling you.

Same here. I'm sick and tired of hearing about sex, money and drugs in modern rap songs. Like, there's so much more to life than that.

Yes of course, rap haven't been the same since long 2000's. Today, all they focus on is using half naked ladies to dance and throw dollars around.

We’re definitely long past the days of NWA and 2Pac. There’s a few that are talented as hell, but the other 98% are the most untalented “musicians” in rap that have ever picked up a mic.

You are not overthinking at all. Rap has definitely been watered down compared to how it used to be in the 2000s and it does a lot of the time feel weird to listen to, even sometimes something we don't tend to listen to due to what is being rapped about either.

Exactly! You see them rapping about inconsequential things. I mean issues and talks that are not relevant. What is the purpose of doing so? That is exactly what I don't know at all.

Sadly, rap is no longer what it used to be. It's only a few guys that can really rap today. The rest are just trying to get by. You know real rap when you see it especially seeing Emenim sing recently.
