How do you feel about actors reprising their iconic roles in completely new settings?

I think it’s fascinating when iconic characters are placed in new settings. It not only pays homage to the original but also challenges both the actor and the audience to rethink what that character means in a modern context. When done right, it can deepen the lore while keeping the character relevant

I do like to see iconic characters placed in new settings and do not feel that it is a bad thing to see them do this. Most actors like a change or a challenge and this often gives them that. Not only that, but we as the viewer also get to see them face those challenges and often pull them off.

When Arnie came back as the Terminator, it wasn't the exact same model he was playing, I assume. But they were extremely dire reboots that fans soon detested. So I think even he felt like he wasted his time.

It’s sickening. Beetlejuice 2 was an abomination with little to no relation to the original that was filmed 30 FUCKING YEARS AGO. And don’t even get me started on Nosferatu. I mean what’s next? Are they going to remake The Wizard Of Oz? Who’s going to play Dorothy? Lucy Hale? Jennifer Lawrence? Sandra Bullock? Emma Watson? The list is extensive. It’s even moreso than male actors. Then we have the scarecrow, tin man, cowardly lion, and the wizard.

Does anyone actually want to see something like that? How about Gone With The Wind, or Casablanca? Maybe we should remake all the Dirty Harry movies, or everything Sen Connery was ever in.

Where does it end?

Rambo: Last Blood was a rather pointless sequel. It felt more like a Taken movie, or whatever. Stallone could have gave it a different title, but I suppose it would just come across as another direct to VOD kind of film, that has no real appeal or critical acclaim.

The fourth movie had 'the perfect ending' to the franchise. John Rambo was persuaded to seek out his family in Arizona, so the way he walks along the road as the credits are rolling, kind of reminds you of the opening to First Blood, which was released in 1982. So that was definitely more like a full circle type finish for Sly's Vietnam veteran character. But then they churned out this gory, vigilante flick, that really doesn't feel like a "Rambo" film. Although admittedly, the last 10 minutes is thrilling while it lasts. No pun intended.

"Rambo in name only" certainly applies here!
