  1. Not what I was thinking of, but I think you figured that out. And I absolutely agree sometimes our anxiety is there to send us a very important message about our survival, and listening to it is far wiser than trying to erase it.
  2. When I play video games, I am interested in everything. I pay attention to every detail of every environment. I excitedly talk to every NPC, and listen to everything they say. But IRL, I often am not paying nearly as much attention, and I typically avoid small talk. But I’ve noticed it is easier to get through it if I pretend I’m playing a video game. Do you think your life would be better if you were able to approach it with the same intentionality as you do video games?
  3. If your video game console needs repairs, what do you do? Do you try to fix it yourself, or do you take it somewhere?
  4. Have you ever purchased a refurbished console or gaming PC? Did it work out? Where did you get it?
  5. What is the most embarrassing thing to happen to you in an online game?
  6. What is a really awesome RPG you’ve played that most people are totally unfamiliar with?
  7. I watched a really cool essay-style analysis of Skyrim and RPGs on a channel called “Like Stories of Old,” but most of his videos aren’t about games. Does anyone know any other channels with similar material about games?
  8. Is there a game you couldn’t get into the first time (or even the first few times) you tried it, but which you eventually really enjoyed?
  9. What is a game that everybody seems to love that you just were not able to get into?
  10. Is there an open world game where you actually can do or be whatever, without essentially being given a role (i.e. the Dragonborn)?
  11. Do you use your console for anything other than than playing video games? I use mine to watch movies/TV, but that's it aside from gaming.
  12. I keep hearing great things about this game, but haven't played it. Anyone here want to share your thoughts about it?
  13. The other day in Oblivion, I felt more of a sense of achievement from climbing up a mountain I wasn’t intended to than I would have going through the cave system I was supposed to. Do you also ever feel more accomplished when you use a workaround than beat a dungeon or level as intended?
  14. When you use stealth to get past an enemy without killing it, do you feel a sense of achievement, or do you feel annoyed you didn’t “defeat” the enemy? I feel the latter, but I also think it’s an irrational feeling.
  15. Do video games help you fight anxiety? I think they help with mine in the following ways: -They give my mind something to focus on. -They play well to my obsessive-compulsive nature, hijacking my OCD and taking it away from ruminating on things that scare me. -They trigger a dopamine “reward” experience. -They are more ordered and safe than everyday life.
  16. https://youtu.be/R_VzjFWrF6o I really enjoyed this video essay about Skyrim and RPGs. Its main point is essentially that video games offer us safe havens of order and meaning in a chaotic and confusing universe.
  17. When it gets loud, it doesn't seem interested in dropping again, so I turn it off. then it behaves fine if I don't play TLOU. It has done this a few times with Dragon Age Inquisition too, but went back to behaving after I turned it off and back on.
  18. I've noticed a few times over the past few weeks, my PS3 is running hotter and louder than usual. It is well-ventilated, recently dusted, and is only doing this sporadically, usually while playing TLOU. Anyone have any thoughts about this?
  19. I heard a rumor that there might be a new Quake game in development, maybe a sequel or a reboot. Which would you prefer, and what would you want from a new Quake game?
  20. Both ideally and realistically, what do you want VR technology to be like in the future? What kind of gaming experience do you want it to bring you?
  21. For games that you return to again and again for many years, what are the draws that keep you coming back? For me, it depends on the type of game. If it is an open world game, it is usually the atmosphere, the music, the scenery, and just the fun of exploring. For linear games, all of that is part of it, but also the story and the characters, and wanting to experience what it is like to “be” those characters again.
  22. How long do you think the microchip shortage will go on (and the subsequent shortage of consoles)?
  23. I really like the idea of a small open world game with a lot of detail—depth over breadth. So, like, instead of a country to explore or a whole city, maybe something more like one block in a neighborhood, or a really small town. But with really elaborate detail put into every location and character. Is there anything like this out there?
  24. I'm playing through Darkfall Cave right now for the first time, and so far, it is my new favorite Skyrim cave. What do you think is the coolest cave in the game?
