StaceyPowers reacted to killamch89 in Is there a point in leveling where a game gets too easy for you?
Skyrim becomes so ridiculously easy at higher levels that I find myself having to do ridiculous stuff like running around naked and try to complete the game with a pickaxe, a fork( not even kidding about this one) and all kinds of crazy challenges just to challenge myself in-game. Come to think of it, I haven't tried playing Skyrim blindfolded...

The BBC is just one view point that doesn't represent the society at large and the media usually just offers their opinion with little to no evidence backing up their claims so it should be met with a healthy dose of skepticism. The attitude towards gamers might change as time progresses but it'll take a couple decades for us to reach at least an acceptable stage.

I dont think gaming will help you land a better job unless the job itself is about gaming.

Having been a lifelong gamer, it's without a shadow of a doubt that games have formed who I am as a person and invariably influenced my choices in life.
I'm not sure if it has helped me directly in any work situations but it certainly is something fun to look forward to when I'm off work.

Employers are aware of gaming. But around here, no matter what you pick up from it, gaming is considered a hinderance. It supposedly distracts you from what you're supposed to be concerned with. I know they have no say what you do on your own time, but if you're a gamer, they look down on that hard.

If stealth is a mechanic I often combine stealth and melee since it's more silent than firing a gun.

I may use melee skills to humiliate my opponents (have done in GTA and a whole host of FPS games) or if I run out of ammunition and can't buy time to reload but I haven't really used melee skills for an extended period. Skyrim is probably the only exception where I do have a couple unarmed characters and when I used ot play Champions Online back in the day.

I always liked the rainstorms in Zelda A Link To the Past. And when I could make it rain with the song of storms on Zelda OoT. I've always loved heavy rainstorms in real life. So I would love to see a game that would just out of nowhere blow in a rainstorm so severe you couldn't see in front of you. That has actually happened here several times. It has rained so hard that I couldn't see my backyard fence. And it's a big ass privacy fence. Tornados, earthquakes, and the occasional flash flood in a dead riverbed would be interesting. Maybe even a hurricane once in a while.
What can I say, I love "bad" weather. I find it soothing. Here where I live what we have to worry about is severe thunderstorms/rainstorms, flash floods and tornados. I'm landlocked in the middle of the US, so I don't have to worry about hurricanes. And I'm not near any faults, so I don't have to worry about earthquakes. The flood of '93 wiped out more than half of the state. There are lakes to this day that are left over flood water. and that was 26 years ago. I remember the river being just a few feet below the bridge when it was supposed to be more than 100' below the bridge. It was fucking insane.

In a thread created a couple of days ago by @StaceyPowers about the coolest weather systems, I brought up the point that most of the dynamic weather systems are just superficial changes. They don't really impact the world around you in any significant way. For instance, I'd like to see something like a bright sunny day suddenly turn into chaos when a tornado touches down and players/enemies can use that weather to escape/ambush each other. I also wish that these storms/natural disasters would do some damage to the world itself so everyone would go and find shelter. I'd like to hear ideas you'd like to see implement into video games. @DylanC @skyfire @The Blackangel @kingpotato @Executor Akamia

Does anyone else get annoyed about the fact that by the time you finally are able to get certain high level/late stage abilities in video games, there isn’t much left to do with them?
Like in Skyrim, by the time I can summon a dragon, strike lightning down from the skies, summon dead Nord heroes, and so forth, I’ve completed so many of the exact hard quests I’d normally want to use those abilities for. I just wind up killing Thalmor at the embassy for kicks.
In Bioshock games too, you only get some of the coolest vigors/plasmids fairly close to the end.
What games have you played where you’re frustrated at how little time/opportunity you get to use cool high level abilities?

I'm going to go with being a survivor of an alien invasion that wipes out humanity. Let's hope I manage to become a stowaway on an alien vessel and embark on a journey of discovery, action and adventure through a hostile universe.
    Not at present. Are you?

Do you have any game-themed clothing, jewelry, or other accessories that you wear/carry everywhere?
I only have one item, a recently-obtained Bioshock-themed ring that says, “A man chooses, a slave obeys.”

I also would like to craft a choker like Elizabeth’s in Bioshock Infinite, but make it reversible with the cage on one side and the bird on the other.
I'm also in the process of teaching myself art nouveau and deco design so that I can make my own tattoo, not necessarily Bioshock-themed, but with the same overall flavour.
What about you? Do you wear anything to express your video game fandom?

Sociopaths can be trusted: to an extent. Unlike psychopaths, we're not pure evil. We may be unfriendly, and somewhat abrasive, but if you leave us alone, we will usually leave you alone. But we tend to take revenge to an extreme that most don't even want to try to imagine. That's where our malice comes in to play.
In a nutshell, sociopaths are just not the "people person" type. You don't need to waste your time being afraid of us. Just give us space.

Thanks. It has always been at the back of my mind because it troubled me that no matter what the weather changed to it was always too "safe". The weather doesn't really impact the player or the characters in-game for that matter.

I'm not sure. I mean, I tend not to watch anything that doesn't interest me. But I suppose I'm usually bored by most game shows and reality shows?
Can you elaborate on what you mean by "type of world?" Are you referencing what destroyed it (i.e. nukes, zombies?)

Like? I have no good memories. Not a single good memory.
Dislike? There’s not enough time left in eternity to scratch the surface. But the number one thing I hated as a child and grew to hate more and more as I grew up is my bloodline.
There’s a reason I’m a clinically diagnosed sociopath. Add raging misanthropy on top of it, and you’ll know now why I keep all relationships online. I don’t trust myself. You can trust me until you fuck me over. Then I will be haunting you until I have destroyed your entire life and world. I take vengeance to an extreme that most can’t fathom and the rest simply don’t want to.

I'd have to agree with your choices as well because I am struggling to thing of any other games with great dynamic weather features - One thing I'd like to see implemented in a game is it goes from a perfectly sunny day to a huge tornado wrecking everything in the blink of an eye. That'd spice up any open-world game - you could use those storms as a way to escape enemies.

What are the most tedious parts of games you’ve played? Here are some for me:
-The puzzle in Myst where you have to navigate through a maze using sounds.
-The entire Fallout 3 Mothership Zeta DLC (I didn’t hate it … it just was quite long and unvaried)
-The Circle tower in Dragon Age Origins (I actually kind of like the part in the Fade, but I have to admit while watching someone else play through it, the Circle is a bit tedious)
-The boss battle at the end of the Legacy DLC in Dragon Age II.
I am sure there are more I could be listing, but that’s all off the top of my head that really stands out. What about for you?

I'd use my money to hire Ken Levine to make something as awesome as Bioshock. Don't much care what it is--just something with as much thought put into the world, story, characters, design/art, and social/political/philosophical content of the game.

What video games do the best job with dynamic weather? So far, the best I’ve experienced I would say is Red Dead Redemption, followed by Skyrim.
