Zombies, vampires, mummies, devils. All the basic horror genre monsters. Dragons also seem to be popular. Even SMB had Bowser which was somewhat of a dragon.

Long cutscenes. Typically they add nothing to the game. FF8 has tons of them, most of which are completely pointless and add absolutely nothing to the advancement of story in any way. They just waste time.

The most cryptic game I have ever played was Riven. I was completely bombed within the first couple minutes of playing it. I didn’t know what kind of game it was, going in. I just liked the graphics. Then I found out that it’s just the type of game that is way out of my league. Kudos to those that can get that kind of game. I just don’t have ability in that area.

Assuming for the sake of argument you haven’t already, if you could pick one person from this forum to meet and spend 1 day gaming with, who would you pick and why?

I’m talking to a couple publishers and looking into the possibility of self publishing, just as soon as I find an editor I like. One of my novels isn’t gonna be published for a very long time, because I’m rewriting a huge chunk of it. I never liked the part of the story from the moment I wrote it, and to this day I still don’t know what the hell it was that convinced me to keep it. I have 3 short stories finished but I want to get a lot more ready and compile them into a book.

I would just like to see one of the books I've written made into a movie. That would be really cool.

It's been a long time since I've come across a truly cryptic game. Even in the PS3/Xbox360 era, they were few and far between. There were bosses here and there that had specific patterns and whatnot that you had to follow to beat them. In God Of War (Chains Of Olympus I think) when you fight Charon, you have to follow a specific battle plan. And often if you don't have a players guide, you're screwed. Then there's Zelda: Oracle Of Ages. How are you supposed to learn how to beat the mini boss in dungeon 4? Its shield is indestructible, so you can't land a hit. You have to let him destroy his own shield, which takes careful maneuvering. Yeah, I knew that going in the first time. Note the sarcasm.
FF8 had a lot of cryptic parts. Summoning Doomtrain for example. Even if you find the Solomon ring, you would have to have all issues of Occult Fan magazine before you would have the slightest clue what the ring did, on your first time through. Enter players guide. That's what it took for me to figure out what the fucking thing was for the first time I got it.

The only game in that genre that I can think of off the top of my head at the moment that I ever really enjoyed was Excitebike (NES).

Depends. Are you looking for specifics for a certain situation or mood, or something that encompasses everything?
If it’s something that encompasses everything, then look no further than a white pit bull named Lady.

I remember playing a lot of Tony hawk games growing up as well as 3Xtreme for the PS1. I'd like EA to bring back the SSX snowboarding games as well because they were extremely fun to play.

For the longest time I HATED Barbie Girl, and by association Aqua. But these days it doesn’t really bother me the way it used to. But there’s no music from the entire 90’s that I can stand with the rare exception, here and there. So it’s pretty much a moot point now.

I picked up WildCATS on SNES a few weeks ago. I’ve always loved the comic book series, and until I came across it, didn’t ever even realize that a video game had been made. For some reason the idea never entered my mind.
For those unfamiliar with WildCATS, it’s slightly similar to X-Men, but in WC they’re aliens instead of mutants.
Well, most of them are aliens. During their time on earth, they took in a human or two.

I would say that one of the most unusual places I've been was an old forgotten cemetery that was way off in the woods. The most recent tombstone had a death date in 1927. It was also the only marble headstone. The rest were all limestone, and quite a few of them were civil war soldiers.

Daniel Logan was telling me a few days ago that he did some voice overs and his face was used in a game recently. I don't remember the game, and I don't think it's been released yet, but it's most likely a Star Wars game.

A lot of the games I play aren't hero based. They're old classics like Galaga, Bubble Bobble, & Q*Bert. There's other games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, Earthworm Jim, & any cartoon based game. The hero based games that I do play (Zelda, FF8, etc) I'm always in full control of the character. It's basically an extension of myself into another universe and time. I honestly can't recall a game that I play regularly where I'm not in full control.

The patent released for the upcoming PS5's technology seems to highlight a form of backwards compatibility which would theoretically make compatible with all previous generations of Sony games from the various consoles. the problem is that we don't know if Sony will ultilize its maximum potential.

The Blackangel got a reaction from killamch89 in Have You Even Thrown A House Party?
I've never been the biggest fan of parties. I went to some in my younger days (god I can't believe that phrase just came out of my mouth. I really am old), but they never really did much for me. People always wanted me on their team for drinking games because (no jokes people) I can open my throat up and just pour fluid straight into my stomach. So I was always the fastest drinker. Unfortunately that also meant I always passed out in front of the toilet. And when you pass out at a party you're fair game for whatever the party wants to do to you. I went to a party on a Saturday night once, got drunk, passed out, and ended up getting duct taped naked, hanging from the monkey bars on a Catholic school playground. I think I still have the newspaper article around here somewhere. It took the cops and fire department about 8 hours to get me down. They had to keep calling more and more men in because they were all laughing too much. I think what they found the funniest part was that the people that taped me there intentionally left my ass exposed for the world to see. Needless to say, after that I drank water and soda.

The Blackangel got a reaction from kingpotato in Are game subscriptions worth it ?
I have to agree with you @kingpotato. Unless you’re only into online gaming and spend the majority of your time on those games, then I don’t think it’s worth it. But I also have to say that it seems to be the way gaming is going. Everything’s about to be an online purchase with a subscription to something required. No more physical copies of anything. And for those of us that don’t like online gaming, we’re almost required to be classic gamers. That doesn’t bother me, as I’m a classic gamer anyway. But it could be the deal breaker and end of gaming for others
