Do you agree with Arsene Wenger that Throw-ins should be scrapped for Kicked-ins?

Recommended Posts

In the recent annual general meeting held by football governing body (FIFA) in Qatar, have seen former arsenal coach and current FIFA's chief of global football development 'Arsene Wenger' suggesting to FIFA that football should adopt it's 1863 rule of Kicked-ins and not throw ins.  To make the game more spectacular and quicker to avoid time wasting in football.

I'm not sure how beneficial that rule would be to speeding up the game. It's like trading one thing for another - the referees are the ones who should crack down on time wasting.

It wouldn't all that benefit the beautiful game since we have other things in the football pitch that takes away time too. Like, substitution, Injury. Are they going to bring solution to those ones too?

There's no way around lessening the time for injuries and substitutions usually don't take that long anyways so you can't do much time wasting there either.

Have you forgotten how sluggish some players can be when they're winning and time to change any of them from the winning side, it takes some time for a player to leave the pitch.

Yeah, you're right but sometimes the players may be very tired or still recovering from a very rough challenge that's really shaken them up.

This is absolutely true, if there is any time wasting in football it is usually from the referees, throw-ins or kick-ins has their role to play in saving time but the referee are the ones in charge of the match and have the power to decide how the match is going to proceed.

Referees are way too lenient when it comes to timewasting especially in the Premier League. Players will spend years on the floor rolling around feigning injuries and the refs hardly ever book them at all.

Maybe because it is accepted in the. Sport to allow a player who might be injured or hit to rest a while and recover before continuing the game, but either ways some spend too much time on the floor even when it is clear that they weren't in any way injured or fouled.

Understand, but such shouldn't make them to trek on the field.  If they're injured and it couldn't let them move, then the stretcher should come quicker and take them away and save the time.

I also agree or they should roll off the pitch instead of staying on it and holding up time but the refs won't address it so what are we to do.

Hmm, we can't do anything as mere spectators, but at least our opinions can go viral, which will bring better option to combat the time wasting in football. I think, when player is shown the door, the ball should continue normal when he is trekking off the pitch.

If they did this, every time the ball went out of bounds outside the, let's say, "middle third" of the pitch, it would effectively turn that into either a goal kick or corner kick depending on what side outed the ball. It wouldn't speed up play because you would inevitably have players making walls to block the ball and position defensively like what happens free kicks and corner kicks, so it wouldn't the desired effect. Not to mention that the football itself is very different object that it was 160 years ago. The materials and design make modern footballs fly, spin and react to touch in a very different way, so even it made sense 160 years ago to have kick-ins, it doesn't make sense now.

Suffice to say, this is a stupid idea.

That's not the intention of the former arsenal coach 'arsene Wenger. The suggestion centred to making the game faster with kick ins, instead of throw-ins that delays playing. In throw-ins, you need to avoid foul throw situations, but with the kick ins, you don't need to observe much rules, just get the ball and pass to a teammate and the game restarts immediately. You see how beautiful it could be with kick ins 'shagger?

Do you seriously believe that players when the have a kick-in near the opposing team's box that they'll just pass the ball? They won't, they'll take the chance to play it like set piece, I guarantee it. I suppose they could make a rule to forbit it, but how could they enforce such a rule? You can't just say they're only allowed to kick the ball so far, nor could they disallow the ball to fly from a kick-in when a ball is allowed to fly from a throw in currently, it just wouldn't work. The wheal dynamic of out of bounds would change. Defenders, for example, would no longer try to try to put a ball out of bound to the side rather the back because what's the point in preventing a corner when the opposing team will get a kick in just a few feet from the flag anyway.
