fantanoice
Have you ever tried working on your own video game? What was your experience like? I'm a programmer and in a previous job worked some number 1 games here in Australia. I'm hoping to one day open my own studio and work for myself, but I have a few things to sort out before that's possible. How about you?
Alyxx
At the moment I am actually developing my own game, a metroidvania run'n'gun platformer called ETHER, which is heavily influenced by games such as Metroid and Duke Nukem. It's style is pretty much intentionally mimicking early 90's DOS games, particurarily those by Apogee Software, using a 16 colour EGA palette and SoundBlaster/AdLib OPL synthesizer sounds and music. fantanoice

Dude, that is awesome and looks like fun! I'd love to know when you release it. I love Metroid, and I'm glad you're inspired by it and started working on your own game. On another note, I've never even thought about game development. ZERO knowledge in that area... LOL!
fantanoice
That's awesome, @Alyxx. I'm really digging the retro aesthetic. What tools are you using to build it? Edited July 26, 2018 by fantanoice

fantanoice
Do you do any of the coding yourself or do you only use the drag-and-drop tools? What are you using for the art? I'm not sure what an 'EGA' palette is.
DylanC
I wrote a really simple, rudimentary game for my Amstrad CPC 464 when I was about eleven years old using BASIC. That's about it, honestly.
Heatman
Seriously - games development isn't something that everyone can get into because it really requires a lot of skills, knowledge and even financial resources to back it up.
Head_Hunter
Interesting to hear that from you that you're a video game developer. You should push yourself up to achieve your dream, but it shouldn't make you being in a haste for that.

Yeah - once he's well committed to the work, there is always a possibility that he's going to become very good at it.
Justin11
I never tried developing my own video game, but that's something I would love to embark in my career in the future. But I have to start from somewhere to learn, in order to build experience.
