Here are my thoughts: http://madblog.shacknet.us/alien-isolation-2014/ Short version, it is the best damn horror game, it has game changing AI and it is 100% worthy of the Alien movie. But it is not an action game. It is one of those games that is so far above typical games that it can actually put off some gamers, as the usual petty tricks and exploits just don't work in it.

I interpret brought new as in at release. The topic doesn't make sense if you include games you got years later, as everybody got somehing for free at some point. Or for pennies. It is not interesting.

And even in this case they are diluting the lawsuit by piggybacking other things on it, like backpay based on past wage disparity. As I've mentioned before just because two people hold the same job title at a company doesn't mean they do the exact same tasks, and that they have equal value to the company. This has nothing to do with sexism and including this in the case makes it harder to get justice for the real victims.

But that's exactly my point people started calling them indie and it stuck, it's not my fault the term is used incorrectly, I'm just telling how it is. I'm fine with AA and smaller games being called indie regardless of actual publishing status. I think that is an unreasonable fear, I've never seen anyone describe rockstar games as an indie dev. And I don't think anybody will confuse ubisoft for a small struggling studio just because technically they are self publishing.

Does anyone else dread/worry about not being able to play old games?

That literally makes zero sense. Living with it is the same as getting used to it. Game preservation is important and we should demand publishers to release offline executables for single player games they shut down the servers of. -
Indie technically means independent as in not having a third party publisher, but people in reality use the term "indie" for small development studios who produce smaller budget games, and not AAA ones. And to make matters worse many of these small studios do sign up with 3rd party publishers to distribute their games. So in the end most developers who we typically refer to as "indie" are not actually independent. The dictionary definition is not always how a term gets engrained. So when people say indie everybody knows they are not referring to CDPR or any other big studio who is self publishing. But to small devs making small games regardless of if they own their publishing rights or not.

I don't just dread, it already happened to several games, that I no longer can play due to servers being shut down or other technical difficulties. Most disappointingly Test Drive Unlimited 2 -
What is the worst thing you ever saw a game admin get away with?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
Well as Bojack Horsman says half of all people are assholes to begin with, it's not like giving the asshole admin rights makes them any less of an asshole. -

I've seen admins berating users while banning them for allegedly berating other users. And when they realized they went too far they edited their original message to erase evidence. -
He might be a veteran but also responsible for some of the biggest misteps at bioware. Like the red green and blue ending for ME3, and the consequent artistic integrity excuse for doubling down on it instead of improving it. Also it was under his leadership that they wasted time for years with no clear direction and then had to wrap up both ME:Andromeda and Anthem in basically 18 months after EA stepped on their collective necks.

Bullet sponges aren't just annoying but a deal breaker for me. I refuse to play games with bullet sponge enemies.

i instantly thought about the Citadel when I read the topic title.

Probably after you finish the tutorial and you first get access to the base of operations. Maybe earlier but I didn't stop playing before I got there.

Plus it is mighty inconvenient to have a number of systems up and ready to play at all times. Even if you own those systems. I much prefer all my gaming to be centralized to one location and a single platform. Heck I used to have my PS2 hooked up to my PC through a TV Capture card so I can play it on my desktop.

The thing is that most emulators only work with ROMs. Yeah you can technically dump the ROM of your own console, instead of downloading one from the internet, but that is still considered illegal by the console makers as it is reverse engineering. Not to mention it requires know how that no average gamer has. The few console emulators that didn't require ROMs to play games are usually shut down by legal action. So if you are deep diving into console emulation prepare to swim the high seas. So in my opinion the greatest obstacle in game preservation are the actual companies who made them.

What difficulty level do you try first with a new game?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I start on normal, except for games that have the elusive "realistic" difficulty setting. -
What opinion about video games do you have that no one can change?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I don't think anyone can say something that would change my long established views on games. -
What video game universe feels most like this one to you?
m76 replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
The most contamporary universe is GTA, it has no magic, or any outlandish things in it, and its also similar in its indifference to the individual. -
I love the idea of cartridges, it is the classical gaming system feel, although I never owned a system that had games on a cartridge. The closest thing to that was the C64 which you could expand the capabilities of with cartridges. Plugging those in was a very visceral and satisfying feeling. With how big games are becoming I could see cartridges making a comeback for the next gen. Games could come on drives that directly plug into the system and don't even need any type of installation. Of course this would make games more expensive.

Any bright light is annoying, no excptions. I used to tape the power led on some of my displays and other equipment.

This is an interesting topic, as there are as many exploits as games. An exploit can be very extreme or as mild as going back to the same vendor every day when their stock is replenished to buy more of something. Waiting for a stash to respawn, is also an exploit as it would not be possible in real life. or even using flaws of the AI against them? For example running outside their patrol area after each attack. I draw the line at AI exploits, I'll use their stupidity if necessary in difficult situations, but only as a last resort. I'd never however use inventory exploits or money exploits in games, that multiply items or gain cash by reselling the same item over and over again.
