Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Are you okay with Xbox not selling as much as the PS5?
@Withywarlock Major reason being is that japanese people prefer using japanese brands rather then buying products from a western brand. Compare it a bit with cars, while they are around, you won't find many european and american makes of cars in japan and the ones that are usually on the more expensive side in other words cars not a whole lot of people can afford. You could say Windows is doing fine over there but the computers windows is running on is 99,9% of the time going to be on computer from a japanese manufacturer.
Obviously microsoft diden't really try anymore with the xbox one, where the original xbox had Shin Megami Tensei: Nine alongside some highly experimental games like N.u.d.e and Dennou Taisen: DroneZ just to name a few exclusives. Microsoft really tried hard to push the 360 in japan in it's early days with games like blue dragon, infinite undiscovery, lost odyssey were all decent exclusives and tales of vesperia was also exclusive for a good time on the 360. To others, incuding myself the japanese 360 was a haven for traditional shooters. On the xbox one however you didn't have any of that, of the few japanese exclusive games there are were also released on other platforms. The only game that comes to my mind that is still an exclusive game is Azito x Tatsunoko Legends.
I'm not really a fan of game pass because as a collector it takes away physical sales and if you ask my oppinion on gamepass it's just a glorified rental service but that is just my oppinion. No what microsoft should do is getting more japanese games on their platform not only exclusives tough, okay they finally got it that persona is a big deal and why the 5th game was so long exclusive to playstation i still don't get it. But games like the atelier series or take it the tecmo koei rpg's in general are not on xbox consoles give tecmo koei and for that matter smaller companies like Nis  a sack of cash and convince them to release on xbox aswell that way you not only take away potential exclusives from other platforms but you also keep gamers who rather play their games on xbox on your platform. Like Ni no kuni why aren't both games on xbox.
Offcourse having a genre defining Jrpg or something that would cater to a japanese audience would also help a lot in sales over in japan but i doubt microsoft is even interested in doing that.

The major problem for any company that would want to take on the wwe license is probably going to be able to outbid 2k games for it, granted if 2k games want to continue with the license. There are rumours about an Aew in development, so there is always that and the competition could do miracles for the wwe games.
There is always fire pro wrestling world for the ps4/pc which is arguably the best wrestling game ever made, it may look simplistic and it's probably too niche for the casual wrestling fan but any wrestling fan should give this a try as you've never seen a wrestling game with this many match types and imo the best control scheme in any wrestling game. People interested in wrestling should look into and it's probably not going to break the either as you can pick up a physical copy on ps4 for around 20bucks.

I'm That Guy™ (AKA Herald of the Amethyst Drake), but in all seriousness there's not a whole lot you can do mechanics-wise. The elemental breaths introduced in Enter the Dragonfly were at their best in in the next instalment A Hero's Tail. Enhancing his core abilities was done in The Legend of Spyro trilogy and in Skylanders especially. Any new ideas mostly involve vehicles (Enter the Dragonfly, Spyro: Fusion/The Cortex Conspiracy) or new characters (...so not a Spyro game).
The most you can do with Spyro today is more of the same which isn't necessarily bad like in the sense of my earlier nomination with Space Hulk which is literally the same ruleset repeated. As you go on to say with Crash Bandicoot, you can't take the characters further but the level design and challenges you absolutely can. Why there's not been more in the way of DLC for their respective remasters I've no idea.

Microsoft has never been able to get a foothold in the japanese/asian market they tried hard with the og xbox and even harder with the xbox 360. But Whenever they released the xbox one it seems like they have given up alltogether, the last time i visited japan the xbox one slim model just came out and was being sold as a 4k blu-ray player, oh yeah it also plays games but why do you want to do that right. My point being is that take that market out and console sales will be much closer because as it stands now sony and nintendo have the entire asian market pretty much to themselves.
Surely the head honchos at the xbox division have taken note that doing your own thing as a console manufacturer works, doing something different then sony is actually working pretty well for microsoft so far. It's like they finally get it that they can't beat sony at their own game and have accepted that.
Obviously the shortage of ps5 consoles also worked into microsoft's favour because it's certain a bunch of people have jumped ship because they coulden't get a ps5 at a normal price.

    To stick to the topic
Crash Bandicoot seems like a franchise that has nowhere left to go anymore, The remasters were good, the recent one Crash bandicoot 4 : it's about time was also fairly good but i feel like what more can you possible do with Crash bandicoot as a character and a series like how much appeal does Crash bandicoot have towards a younger audience. I'd say the same about the spyro series but i'm afraid a certain somebody will likely want to have my head so i'll leave the little purple dragon alone (for now).
Mario party could also be a decent fit for this thread, everything that could have possibly done with the mario party franchise has been done, i don't doubt nintendo will reinvent themselves at some point but until that happens it's another franchise that has nowhere left to go.
The first 3 games of Mass effect also comes to my mind, Where to the point all there is to be said has been said and the series wrapped up nice enough to give it a rest. Sure the world and lore of mass effect is too good to waste and not do something with it, but bioware can't afford another andromeda fiasco because that would push the series into the requirements needed to list it into this thread.
Same could be said about the Witcher franchise as Geralt his story is done.

The idea for this thread came to me while I was replying to @Yaramaki's thread Videogame Franchises that outstayed their welcome?
There are a lot of game series that the developers have shot themselves in the foot with. One of the biggest examples is the RDR franchise. Not counting Red Dead Revolver, the first RDR had a lot of promise to starting up a new series. But at the end of it, things really had nowhere to go, considering the time frame it would take place in. So then RDR2 came out which was a prequel. Now what? A prequel to a prequel? A sequel to the first one? Is Jack going to run with Al Capone? Is he going to be a lawyer like his mother wanted? RDR has absolutely nowhere to go now. Unless something huge happens, it's dead. Maybe they'll release a game from the viewpoint of the O'Driscolls. That one wouldn't sell as everyone is more attached to the Van der Linde gang at this point.
What are some others that have left themselves nowhere to go?

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Assassin's Creed should mix past and present again
I think it's time for ubisoft to rethink the whole ac formula again because let's face it origins, oddysey and valhalla while all great games they have nothing in common with the original ac games they are just action rpg's with the ac name slabbed on it. In valhalla stealth is pretty damn near impossible where in origins and oddysey it was still possible to clear out an enemy camp. I personally find valhalla a downgrade from odyssey i don't know why like going on your first raid is pretty epic and all but it get's old pretty fast, as are the side missions which can be completed in a matter of minutes. The story and side characters are also not the most interesting where in odyssey you got a whole host of memorable side characters like barnabas for example.
Anyways about present day Assasins creed i don't really mind it but other then for story purposes there isen't really much to do in the present day ac segments kind of wished ubisoft added a little something more. Maya is a much better character then desmond , maybe even one you give two fucks about sadly i doubt she will be returning in the next game and we wil probably play as basim in both present and past which in all honesty is not the most interesting character to begin with, my best bet would be that the next game will take place in india.
Overall the modern segments have become more interesting over the years. I diden't really liked the whole first person view we had in black flag and rogue but atleast you could walk around and hack some computers, the modern story in rogue ended in a major cliffhanger that has not been adressed to this day and probably never will, i think unity also ended up being the same way but i can't remember too much about it to go into detail.
Just to go back to the topic title now with Basim back from the dead (kinda hard to explain without spoilers) but if you played trough valhalla you'll know what i mean, it could be the perfect way to implant both past and present and make some sense for once.
Also that assasins from watch dogs legion what was she called Darcy, bring her in as a present ac protagonist.

Noticed that i haven't replied to this thread yet so here we go i woulden't call them necessary mistakes i made as a noob since i still find myself guilty of doing the same things after all these years especially in rpg's
Excessive grinding -> The first thing i always did whenever i started playing a new jrpg, grinding for a couple of hours in the first area of the game to the point where i'm 5-10 levels ahead of the enemies i need to face in the next area, Still find myself guilty of this apperently ever since booting up Dragon Quest 11 a few days ago and the first thing i started doing yep grinding lol. Making the game a breeze so far.
Looking up something before playing a certain part of a game -> Something to try to avoid as much as possible but back in the day, i would look up guides or just read them from the gaming magazine rack of what i had to do in the game or ask my parents to buy me a magazine if they were in a generous mood.
Holding on to every weapon -> Still guilty of this, but yeah pretty self explanatory this one, for example you don't need that iron sword in skyrim anymore but lets hold onto it for safekeeping or as a momento.
Wasting money on items that are pointless -> Yep you already have 50 healing potions what do you do buy a couple more just to be sure or how about that weapon that does 2 more damage then your current one, sure that's 2000 gold of the 3000 gold your have, only to find the exact same weapon in the next dungeon.
Saving after every goddamn battle ->  saving 15 times in an hour check, it wasn't something uncommon i did back in the day.

You could do a lot worse then Ikaruga as it's still one of the best shoot em ups out there. It was also a good reason to keep your gamecube around for the longest time until they ported it over to modern consoles. I know of a ton of shmups that are worthy of your time, just don't know if they are on steam which i guess is what you are after, so let's have a search on steam on wheter they are avaible or not.  However i'm a console gamer and therefore i can't vouch how they perform on pc.
Crimzon Clover World Explosion -> Pretty recent release that has been recommended to me by a few people i know, since they were talking about it like the second coming of christ i decided to pick up the switch version. It runs pretty well, great bullet hell shooter that has multiple difficulty entries and is easy enough to pick up but hard to master, has some wacky mechanics i havn't seen in a shooter before. Yeah this seems like a good one to start imo. I don't know about the old school look as it looks more like a sega saturn game on steriods but you know old school enough.
Darius Burst Chronicle Saviours -> Latest entry in the long running darius series, you can't go wrong with this series, i'd say it's probably my favourite franchise in the entire shooter genre. All games are top notch quality, i played this on the Vita off all places had a good time with it. However if you ask my oppinion you are better off with the Darius Cozmic Collection that includes 7 games inc my favourite of the series the pc engine version of darius plus. I've also found this Hd version of G-Darius on steam but i can't say it's good or not, costs 30 bucks tough.
Ginga Force and Eschatos -> Going to list these together as they are made by the same company and are pretty much the same games, just the setting is different, had a lot of fun with these when they originally came out for the japanese 360. Story seems kinda wack from what i remember but overall worthy of your time and easy enough to get into. What suprises me even more the same company ported one of the rarest and best Bandai wonderswan games over to steam well what you know i learned something new today. i'm talking about Judgement Silversword offcourse.
Raiden V: Director's Cut -> latest entry in the longtime running series and it's is suprising how much raiden games are avaible on steam, yeah i meanly remember this 5th entry as it was an xbox one exclusive in japan for the longest time until they ported it over to other platforms. Still can't say much about this directors cut but as i only played the regulair version which is a decent enough entry in the series. Of all the raiden games i played the third game and fourth game are my favourites. There is also this compilation of four earlier games of which i only played the first raiden game of on the atari jaguar no less lol those were the days, i should hook that thing up and give it some love on of these days.
Bullet soul and Bullet Soul Infinite Burst -> Don't know why i waited this long since these should have been on top of the post, these are my absolute favourites in the bullet hell genre. Man they are perfect for beginners and aren't too brutal to get into and the gameplay is top notch, you feel like a badass in no time lol. Needless to say the music is top notch. I diden't even knew they were avaible on steam and were stuck in japan on the 360. Good to know so i can recommend them next time somebody asks the same question. I'd suggest picking up infinite burst over the original because it's essentialy an upgrade over the original game.
Obviously no shmup thread is complete without mentioning some Cave games  as they are the masters in the bullet hell genre but i just don't want to take up anymore of your time. But it's always good to reminisce every once in a while about a genre that doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Hopefully this is a satisfying answer to your question Shagger and is what you are looking for. If you want to me to do a post of the above mentioned Cave we can arrange that aswell. It's also been fun to browse trough steam as it's a platform that i quite honestly never use.

Yaramaki got a reaction from DC in Videogame Franchises that outstayed their welcome?
Probably a fun one to discuss yes or no? As topic title says what videogame franchises outstayed their welcome and should be put on hold indefinitely. Where and why did they go downhill?
Let's just avoid the usual suspects like call of duty, fifa, madden and what have you as those are offcourse the more obvious ones. I'll start with my picks :
Sonic -> Yes sonic, i'm kinda ashamed to put it in my list as a sega fan but clearly apart from the brilliant sonic mania plus, sega just doesen't know what to do with franchise anymore and they keep pumping out mediocre game one after the other. With a bunch of remasters in between nobody was waiting for and with the upcoming sonic frontiers game that is already getting slammed  by the general public, i'd say it's time to give the blue hedgehog a well deserved rest.
Warriors/Musou games -> Where to even start with this, there are just so many of them out there and pretty much a new one wheter it's a spin off or main game comes out every couple of months it's impossible to keep up with them. Offcourse recent entries may be more varied then previous ones but doesen't take away the series should be given some time off, because they all play the same anyway. If Dynasty warriors 9 has proven one thing by going open world is that omega force doesen't really know what to do with it anymore to keep it interesting for more then a couple of hours.
Final Fantasy -> I'm not 100% sure myself wheter or not i should include it here but goddamn square enix has been milking the final fantasy dry all they can the past few years, like how many spin offs do we even have now, it's damn near impossible to list em all, like Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia: Final Fantasy and the recent released Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin coulden't be further away from the traditional jrpg roots of the series. I get it anything final fantasy is likely going to sell better but come on squar enix it's time you make the fantasy final for once and for all. Just start naming your games something different.
Need for speed -> A no brainer to include Need for speed as Ea themselves doesen't really know what to do with the franchise either, ghost studios clearly isen't capable of delivering a good racing game. Well maybe Rivals can be classified as good but eh ever since the 2015 reboot which imo has one the worst car handlings in any game and on top of that the cheesy live clips in between that are supposed to tell a story eh no thanks. Later games are a tad bit better but the whole you vs the cops or vice versa it's getting old and in this day and age i think nobody is waiting for another need for speed, now that ea bought codemasters i don't really see much reasons to keep need for speed alive for much longer. Let's just say need for speed is a series that is living of it's past glory and imo should be put on hold for a atleast a couple of years. We can only hope the new need for speed by criterion is going to be better then previous entries but if it fails i'm afraid for the series future.
I know i could go on and on but i've got to respect other people their free time, others i would have included are Halo, Gears of war, God of war and Resident Evil.

I'll probably not bother with Darius Burst for now as that game is little bit expensive and more for bullet hell enthusiast, but the Cave games look cool (Especially Deathsmiles) and they all look fun to play.

Yaramaki got a reaction from killamch89 in I wish they'd make more music making games
The problem with creating a music making "game" is that it's going to be very hard to come up with a combination between videogame and software i'd say it's damn near impossible to have a mix of both, sure you could add an indept tutorial but it's still going to be software, offcourse you could always add a campaign of some sort but then you probably have to strip out features so anybody could "play" it.
Say a company makes a "game" like this, one huge factor to consider is copyright infringement because you're damn right some clever bastards are going to find a way to share copyrighted music and it probably could infact turn into the next kazaa or napster just to name a few. It's doubtfull any company  could handle the headache it would cause resulting in a couple of lawsuits here and there.
The next question is who on earth would want to make music on a console, when you have literally hundreds of programs avaible on pc (even some for free) that would do a much better job then any "video game" ever could.
Now to stick to the topic at hand i know off Xbox music mixer for the original xbox, i have a japanese copy that includes a dvd on how to use it but i'm not 100% sure if you can actually make music with it, since it's heavy reliant on online sharing between pc and xbox a lot of features are unusable these days.
Others i can think but sadly i can't say much about them are Traxxpad and Beaterator for the sony psp i have both of them at my parents place maybe i should try em out sometime soon. I'm sure there are a couple on the nintendo ds aswell but i can't say for sure what they are called. I do know one game had a simple piano addon that you could hook up in the gba slot of your ds i think it was called easy piano.
Had to google it because it's name eluded me but there is always Korg Gadget for the switch if you want to start music career which seems much more advanced then anything i've seen before on a console.

Right, toy to life games, did you ever buy any of them, did you enjoy them or did you ignore it all together and diden't care at all.
And offcourse the most important question do you still own any and would you like them to make a comeback. Let's kick things with what came to my mind first when i tought about this subject.
Do you remember Skylanders and all it's sequels, disney infinty, hell probably the most suitable brand for this type of games namely lego jumped ship with lego dimensions and offcourse how can anyone forget the amiibo craze, pretty much 15$ figurines with nintendo characters that did the bare minimum.
A little over 10 years ago up until let's say 2016-17 these things were everywhere, in skylanders case they are still everywhere only now dumped in a forgotten corner of the house, laying to rot in the attic or being sold at a flea market for a few euros a piece (in skylanders case).
What happened? Pretty simple answers oversaturation and in skylanders case games that declined in quality over time. I doubt anybody is really waiting for a toy to life comeback so nah i don't really want it to make a comeback unless they come up with an adult version of the concept like a open world rpg or something along those lines.
Obviously by the time these games come out i was already well in my 20 ies so i never really cared about the whole concept too much as it was just another may i add brilliant way of getting more money out of mostly parents their pockets, i do own a few sets myself but those are mostly for collectors purposes.
Pretty sure folks who are younger then me can chip in with a better view like do you have found memories or any nostalgia for these games?

Create a new topic or give me a decent title for said topic and i'll create it myself, that way i can move the entire microsoft flight simulation discussion over there and you can continue your talk about airplanes in a dedicated topic and this thread is clean and on topic again that's two birds in one stone.

Yaramaki got a reaction from Withywarlock in Studios you'd like to see take on other IPs
A no brainer would be Ryu Ga Gotoku studio (the guys behind the yakuza series) taking on the shenmue ip. While the man himself Yu suzuki commands nothing but respect he and his small team can't do the shenmue franchise justice anymore and maybe it's time for him keep his legacy intact, retire and enjoy his old day. The guys from Ryu Ga Gotoku studio mastered the while small, compared to other open world games. The open world formula with creating a world full of interesting content and things to do.
Arc system works, these guys pretty much mastered the 2d fighting genre why not let them do something with the tekken or street fighter ip. Pretty sure it would come close to the best 2d fighter ever made.
Warhorse studios (the studio behind the underrated Kingdom come deliverance) have proven they can create an interesting open world, write an interesting stories and side quests that are actually fun to play, put them on the elder scrolls ip and given enough time and budget you could do a lot worse then them. Maybe a more realistic scenario for the elder scrolls ip would be Obsidian.
Since we're making shit up why not have Playground games have a crack at a new Project Gotham Racing game or a sequel to the still exellent og xbox exclusives duo of rallisport challenge games.
