StaceyPowers
@m76 mentioned being more open to non-realism in open world games than in other types of games. I notice I feel the same way. It made me curious, does realism matter more or less to others with respect to different genres, or about the same across the board?
m76
It's more like I have less expectations of realism from certain aspects of games. I hate things that are unrealistic by design but could be done better, and I embrace things that are not realistic for practical reasons or limited by technology. The Blackangel
It all depends on the individual game. Personally I think RDR1 should be remastered, because for the type of game it is, it looks like shit. Whereas, some games like some of the Zelda entries were too realistic for the type of game (I'm looking at you Twilight Princess) and it took away from the story. The only reason I played it was for the graphics. I never really did anything other than play around in Ordon Village and Kakariko village. The dungeons were pure shit. But to get back on point, can you imagine Skyrim, or RDR2 with outdated graphics?
killamch89
It depends on the universe of that game - if it's supposed to mirror real life but it has very unrealistic effects like surviving a drop from a skyscraper, then I'm going to have serious issues. In Skyrim for instance, where almost anything is possible, the lack of realism is to be expected.

I believe that universe of the game would still have to bow towards if it's an open world game in general to other it more realistic output.
