  1. I'm on the same page with you. I usually like to try and find my own way through a game as best I can, but now and again, there's something that's massively detracting from my enjoyment of the game. Usually I either am looking in the wrong place (i.e. can't find those stupid animals or chains to pull in Skyrim), or I don't understand the parameters of the puzzle in order to solve it. When that happens, I will check YouTube.
  2. @Sn9 I can't believed I missed this. From one gamer with ASD to another, awesome review :) Multitasking in games gets my heart racing too, lol. I expect it is a bigger challenge for us than for some of our NT counterparts, so the pressure is higher when we have to juggle tasks or do a lot in menus rapidly. For me, TLOU fell into this category. I died a lot simply from pushing the wrong button =D Gaming has helped with some of my empathy deficits as well. I've learned some things about socializing from playing Dragon Age games. So many times I thought a dialogue option would do one thing, and it would do the total opposite.
  3. I've heard a lot of people say the second game is weaker. I'm soon to finish my first playthrough on Bioshock 1, so I'll be playing 2 soon. I'm still looking forward to it, regardless. It's hard to say no to more time in Rapture.
  4. What are the most irritating escort missions you can remember playing in any games?
  5. No doubt my RL cat which likes to climb all over me while I am playing agrees.
  6. Now that I’m almost done with my first playthrough of Bioshock 1, I definitely have to mention this one as well. SPOILERS BELOW*** You don’t appear to make many choices in this game. It’s a shooter, and you’re pretty much just following instructions from a guy over the radio. Why? Well … huh. When you think about it, you’re really not sure. It doesn’t seem particularly logical, even if he does seem sympathetic. But you figure, “Well, it’s a shooter, and I’m used to stories in shooters being a bit bare-bones.” So you shrug it off, despite the narrative complexity of your environment. Later, you find out that doing what this guy says all this time was illogical, and the only reason you were doing it was because your character was under the influence of mind control. This is revealed in a cutscene where you have zero control over anything—the genius of it being that in a way, your ability to operate the gamepad controls before was essentially the “illusion” that convinced you that you had free choice. It’s interesting that both Bioshock 1 and Infinite deal with issues of powerlessness. But in Bioshock 1, Jack has too few choices, and in Infinite, Booker has (or had, in his backstory) too many. Both end up restricting their expression of will.
  7. There are a lot of threads online about the most overrated video games (and other "overrated" things), because I think people love to find fault online. So how about some of the most underrated video games you have played? Which games do you think were overlooked, and what made them great?
  8. Exactly. A lot of ex-cons have a difficult or impossible time re-integrating into society, both because of the bad habits that they ingrained in prison and because of the lack of support for them after getting out.
  9. I have a very campy sense of humor :)
  10. Let us know if you do get the chance to try those. I've been curious how they play.
  11. I think i explained it poorly. It's the other way around; I'm nearsighted. I can see very well super up close, but very badly anywhere past a few inches away.
  12. @DylanC @Alyxx Thank you both for weighing in. Context-wise, it sounds like the platform on which one plays the game has a pretty big effect on the overall experience. I've been curious about it since hearing about it, as I remember the classic Duke Nukem on PC fondly.
  13. @ladyday “You keep reminding me of myself!!! I could have written exactly the same!” We’re so alike =D “ Breaking people, rather than rehabilitating and building them up, just creates more crime. It's a vicious circle! Taking the freedom away from criminals is punishment in itself, and it should be used as a tool for helping people get back on track with life,” Exactly. I feel the goal should be to maximize freedom for all members of society to the highest degree possible. That necessitates locking some people up, unfortunately—but those people should be given the resources they need for a meaningful life. If they can be rehabilitated and reintegrated back into society, that is ideal. If not, the focus should still be on their personal growth. “Nowhere near all prisoners have jobs, there aren't enough to go around, and in maximum security prisons they have very little time outside the cell. “ Plus busy does not equal not bored. Not all activity is fulfilling. I mean, it is like saying that slavery = a full life if we keep slaves busy.
  14. I guess I'd go back to insomnia at night 😞
  15. @Alyxx @DylanC I'm curious about both of your opinions on Duke Nukem Forever.
  16. Skyrim. I've heard it a million times, but it doesn't get stuck in my head. That's quite amazing. It's atmospheric, but not intrusive.
  17. I have clear vision to within a few inches of my face. Everything past that is a blur. I wear glasses whenever I'm awake.
  18. @kingpotato Which games have you played with PS VR, and which were the couple you liked?
  19. I was hunting for videos on YouTube yesterday with Bioshock ambient sounds layered together so I can loop them when I work/sleep. Anyone else look for this sort of thing, and have any favorite videos to share?
  20. @Alyxx What's something that made you smile this week?
  21. There's nothing I won't do for members of my chosen family.
  22. @SpaceExplorer @LadyDay Actually, I just realized I was thinking about Kharjo. I've never had J'Zargo as a companion. I wonder if they have any of the same lines? Kharjo says this really funny thing about being stealthy.
  23. @The Blackangel I completely feel the same way. It's why I get so angry at the lack of backwards compatibility on systems. I live in a small space, and don't have room to pile up old systems. But I didn't get the PS4 because it wouldn't play my PS3 games, and I love them too much to give them up. But I want to get a platform which lets me play the future installments in the series I like. So I'm desperately hoping that PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 and PS3. But I am worried it will only be with PS4.
