  1. I'm sure they have their charm to people who grew up with them but I'd reckon that No they haven't, at least generally speaking. I'm not super fond of claiming games "age" in general since I find it both fun and important to try out old games as well as newer ones, but from an objective standpoint I have the impression that Atari ports of arcade games that were made on pre-video game crash systems kind of got blown out of the water once the NES rolled out with its much more accurate renditions of many arcade games, and I'm hard-pressed to find a good argument in favor of adventure and action games released before the likes of Mario, Contra, Zelda, Megaman or Dragon Warrior, which just kind of destroyed them. Old Atari games were way before my time and I haven't delved far enough back in time to ever have given them an honest shot aside from a game or two, but I can definitely see the charm in the super primitive graphics and sometimes crazy sound effects. The (nowadays) simplistic graphics of the NES are still (at least to me) great for kind of making your imagination fill in the gaps which is a feeling love, and I'd reckon that Atari graphics are the same to many who were kids when they were hot stuff.
  2. I'm kind of bummed that it's taken this long, when I know that I'm not going to be wowed in the same way as with BotW because it'll still be "just a sequel" in its core, so the hype has kinda fizzled out for me. It'll probably still be fun, but I'm kind of hoping that the next Zelda game after this won't just be more of the same since it sold so well, mainly because it'll fall into the same rut Aonuma complained about up until the release of BotW.
  3. If it turns out good I'd want to play the new Fable game on Xbox, since I was a big fan of the series when the original three were coming out.
  4. Only in Monster Hunter World's arm-wrestling minigame. That's where the REAL competition is
  5. I'm fairly similar I think. I've always described myself as an "extroverted introvert" in that when I open up to people I can be very lively and social, but it's also very draining and sometimes I enjoy just being for myself for an entire week, playing Red Dead Redemption 2 or some other big single-player adventure. I do like playing online, but mostly with real-life friends as I enjoy the social aspect more than the competitive aspect. There's a difference between being lonely and just wanting to be alone sometimes and that's totally fine :)
  6. What's your favourite game that utilizes motion controls?
  7. That's really interesting! I rely on sound cues so much when I play (often more than visual cues) that it'd be impossible for me to play games with sound. A few exceptions would be something like World of Warcraft, which I usually play when just chatting with friends, and the game's so much muscle memory and sort of "ambient" gameplay that it works fine there.
  8. But this isn't accurate at all. It's a single-player game and you can be a dark wizard. You even see the player character cast Avada Kedavra in a trailer.
  9. Playstation Plus as I'm currently exploring the new libraries they added, which felt like a better option for our new PS5 rather than gambling 1-3 games for full price a year. Had a years worth of Switch Online that ended last week since I don't use it a lot. I also have a recurring subscription to Final Fantasy XIV if that counts!
  10. Animal Crossing New Horizons. Whatever you do in that game, the villagers are always happy for you, where in the previous games (particularly the first one, it's been toned down more and more every installment) they could be more rude. But NH is essentially just a tool for the player to express themselves without fear of pushback nor repercussion.
  11. My brother (who I share an apartment with) bought one this spring, and it's been really nice. The Demon's Souls remake blew me away so I'm very excited for the future. I think the controller is one of the best I've ever used. Sorry to hear that. It always sucks when life gets in the way like that, a similar thing happened to me a while back and it's never fun.
  12. I'm incredibly excited. It looks like it's shaping up to be the one video game I've wished for the most for the past 20 years. Still torn on whether to go Slytherin or Hufflepuff, but I'm leaning towards the latter.
  13. My favourite AAA studio is Capcom. I feel like they're the only big Japanese studio to keep up with the times in terms of things like graphical fidelity, while still keeping true to many of their unique styles. My only wish is that they brought back and made Marvel vs Capcom and Megaman relevant again. My least favourite AAA studio is probably Square Enix because of how consistently tone-deaf they are, with things like withholding the Pixel Remasters from consoles, and all-round pumping out a ton of random games of middling quality for the last few years, and their weird creepy NFT stance. Or Ubisoft for an easier answer. My favourite indie studio is probably Yacht Club, since I'm really impressed with how they managed to make Shovel Knight into such a franchise, while never really sacrificing quality or identity or "selling out", and their new game looks fantastic and still very much fits their unique take on indie games. Not sure if I have a least favourite indie studio, but probably one of those where the creators belittle their fans and constantly has to know best.
  14. Agreed. I really really like the main 4 heroes and their dynamic but they're more like, good despite the story being weak, not what makes it good, if that makes sense.
  15. I like it when the game lends itself to the idea of going into the character’s shoes like an avatar. To me, it can become more immersive, but also because I’m not a big fan of voice acting in most RPGs since it often feels amateurish. I do like when you’re offered various dialogue options (like in Persona for example) to further flesh out your own idea of the character you’re playing.
  16. Final Fantasy XV. The plot is super weak and you can constantly tell they had to move stuff around or change things (especially if you played it before any DLC was out) but the final dungeon/boss fight/secret ending parts are all excellent.
  17. I've found that I rarely beat games, so I just tend to hop from different games depending on what I'm into at the time. Currenlty playing a lot of Pokémon because I'm excited for the new one, but that may very well change tomorrow because I have a Monster Hunter itch closing in.
  18. I think it's great. Not really as good as people make it out to be personally but still great. I felt it was kind of TOO big, and didn't feel as much as a dungeon crawler as the previous Souls games were, which is something I really like. I know most people like that about it, as most seemed to just want "Dark Souls but open world" and for them it's probably a game they can enjoy forever due to its sheer size and replayability. I also appreciate how videogame-y it feels, as I'm not a fan of when games are overly cinematic. I can just turn it on and whack my sword at ghouls for a while. It's exactly what most fans of the series wanted, which is why it's getting so much praise. I'd call that regularly hyped rather than overhyped.
  19. It's one of the best games I've ever played. Of course, since I like it that much I'm going to be very biased but still. I love how it's one of those "make your own fun" kinds of games. It's relaxing on your own, but can be quite scary if you're not feeling up to engaging with other players, so that risk is always looming in the back of your head. However, when you play with friends it's an unparalelled experience, imo. Almost every session is memorable in some way, even if it's just your friend lighting a powder keg in the wrong place, it truly feels organic and fun like that. It's still relatively (but deceptively) simple. A lot of people don't seem to like that there's no power progression and that most (all) rewards are cosmetic. I think it just adds to the experience, because it means that you can't get ganked by someone who's grinded out the best weapon, and if you do get ganked they were simply better or luckier (or both) than you. Which goes both ways of course. I also personally like that you can't opt out of the risk of PvP, and Rare's been pretty steadfast with that it's a pirate simulator after all, so of course there might be pirates out to get you. Fantastic game overall, and together with some friends it's one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.
  20. Both good picks. I was hard-pressed to think of one I disliked but I'll go with Bubsy as well.
  21. Thanks, and it's all good . Just happy to be here!
  22. Hello, I am Tonberry. I was looking for a nice place to discuss video games and this place seems really chill. I like just about every genre of games, but my favourites are probably turn-based RPGs, Action Adventure-type games like Zelda/Monster Hunter/Souls, platformers and fighting games. Looking forward to chatting with you all!
  23. It varies from game to game. Usually I'll sit there and bang my head against it until something works, but sometimes I just don't have the patience. I was recently stuck at a puzzle in Elden Ring where you had to find an invisible bridge in order to get into a tower, and after a while I just gave up and looked it up. Turns out I was way off where I was supposed to look. I was also frustrated during that particular session due to a boss kicking my ass so I didn't have the patience for exploring all that much. I was also stuck at the sliding block puzzle in the ice dungeon in Twilight Princess when I was a kid, took me hours of pushing and I must've just repeated the same pattern over and over..
  24. I really like Chocobos, and they're kind of the mascots for Final Fantasy games I'd argue? Lots of iconic monsters but it even gets its own games with a unique look. Other than that I really like Slime from Dragon Quest, and Rathalos.
