StaceyPowers Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) I have just been reading up on the loot box debate, or should I say "surprise mechanics" debate. I am curious what everyone here thinks of it? Are loot boxes the same thing as gambling? Does it make a difference if they are paid or free? @Alyxx @killamch89 Edited October 26, 2019 by StaceyPowers
kingpotato Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Bad practice but I dont really care about them, I have never purchased a micro transaction. Still they will never end as long as people keep buying them
killamch89 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Loot boxes are definitely a form of gambling and should be subjected to same legislation. Lootboxes are meant to prey on unsuspecting children and people with gambling habit/ lack of self-control and physically and mentally challenged people as well. There have been countless stories about mentally/physically challenged children costing their parents thousands of dollars because the child wanted an item in-game but isn't really aware that it costs real-life money.
skyfire Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I think some of such loot box which have some fair returns to the product in some way can be good but gamble type can be pretty bad.
The Blackangel Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 This doesn't really affect me, because I don't really play those kind of games. But I think that loot boxes should be limited to adult only games. They should not be a part of child friendly games. Because, like @killamch89 said, children have, without realizing it, ended up costing their parents thousands of dollars because of loot boxes.
skyfire Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I think unless we need those skins, boxes and also have obligation to forcefully push for P2W. I don't think it does affect many.
Dead2009 Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 I barely do microtransactions as is unless it's something I REALLY like, like a skin or something.
