m76 got a reaction from Reality vs Adventure in Protagonists you hate
Everyone in XCOM:Chimera Squad: These are psychopaths, who revel in violence, and plop disgusting jokes between kills, while acting like Karens in between missions.
Niko Bellic - GTAIV: A petty criminal who acts like a petty criminal even after getting loaded, what is there to like?
Michael, Trevor: GTAV: How could I like a selfish criminal and a violent sociopath? Franklin at least has some redeeming values, but not particularly likeable either.
What's his name? - RDR2: A plank of wood is more lively and interesting than this protagonist.

Max Payne - Max Payne 3: Let's be clear I love the original Max, I just hate the version written by Rockstar games. He is a miserable self loathing worthless burlap sack waste of space. Seems like a caricature.
Geralt - The Witcher Series: A giant jerk, who constantly acts like an ahole, and is especially disrespectful towards women, I quit playing all three games because of my revulsion of him.

m76 got a reaction from Reality vs Adventure in Why does entertainment industry normalize the male head of household to be so stupid?
Characters in comedies need to be as dumb as it gets to appeal to the lowest common denominator. At least that is the logic they use when they make these shows.
It's not just about husbands, it's every type of person. Like geeks being depicted as socially awkward to the point of dysfunctionality. And also every man being depicted as if their sole life purpose is to get the girl.
Even shows that start out well sooner or later reach the point of the lowest common denominator, when it stops being grounded in reality. That's usually when I stop watching them.
For example the Office US version was good while only Michael was this goofy character, and the rest were at least plausible people. But after a few seasons they slowly degraded everyone to imbeciles, that's when I stopped watching that show. And it's not even limited to comedy, some dramas suffer the same fate. They get so dumb after a point that it becomes painful to watch.

m76 got a reaction from killamch89 in Why do we call the hardest enemies "bosses"
Boss means higher in the hierarchy than regular cannon fodder enemies. It does not refer to their character being any kind of boss in the normal sense. But sometimes "boss" enemies can be actual bosses, other times they are just harder to defeat than regular enemies. Hence we also refer to some enemies as mini-bosses. The ones that are tougher than normal, but not the uber enemy of the game. So for example in Doom, the hell knight is a mini-boss. The cyberdemon is a boss.

I don't make a habit of revisiting childhood games as an adult. Times change and most of what was interesting to 12 year old me, no longer is.
When I did  revisit some games, the most common experience was that what seemed extremely hard and complex back then usually seems like child's play as an adult. It doesn't mean that I now hate those games, though.
I think what is more interesting is what games you can play with the same enthusiasm as an adult as you did as a kid.

it's based on the engine of Mafia 3, got no issues with that at all, the issue is that they modified lot of storyline events, characters faces, characters voices, lot of missions, interiors and much more, which makes it not even close to the original game at all

Every recent ubisoft games has them. That's why  they fight trainers with tooth and nail. And some trainers ask for money now too. It's a hell of a time to be a gamer, scalpers, trainer makers, and publishers all want to use you as a coin cow.

Oh, they are a thing, they are just called "time savers" now, and you pay for them with real money.
So why put cheat codes in your game when you can make players pay for cheats like xp boosters and progression boosters, and gear? Basically IDKFA is now a microtransaction. And it's disgusting.

We used to play Stunts with the kid from our neghbor, and we would take turns at it. While one of us played the other commentated on it like it was a real TV broadcast.
I also remember fondly playing through Doom and Doom 2 with the same kid, taking turns each time we died.
And my other fond memory is playing Toca Race Driver with my school classmates, in 3 or 4 way splitscreen, but we didn't race, we used to have this unique competition where the goal was to break the others rear window, and whoever had their rear windshield intact last was the winner.
Also when my parents have bought a second computer so they could use it because I basically made the former family PC my private one, my freinds would come over and we'd play all kinds of player over LAN. Anyone here remembers, coaxial network? Before the time of UTP, yeah we  used that.

There are a thousand and one ways you can make mistakes that will cost you big in Quantic Dream games, too many to even list. You can get characters killed maimed, scarred both emiotinally or physicially in a thousand different ways.  You can even turn them into immoral killers.

Except they ask full price and a subscription fee for what constitutes as basically renting games. No, they'd need to completely rework their sales model for it to be commercially viable.

m76 got a reaction from killamch89 in How do you feel about telemetry in games?
These days every major game has some sort of data collection built into them that analyses and sends information on your playing habits and in game choices back to the developer.
How do you feel about this?
I have to say I don't mind it if it is used to bettering games. I look at it as if a poll or questionnaire that you constantly fill.
But there are also very bad examples. Like recently when a developer used this data to publicly shame gamers for their in-game choices. This is unacceptable.  This is like the chef coming out of the kitchen in a restaurant and slapping the client in the face for ordering two courses that don't match in the opinion of the chef.

In reality consumers are pushing for release just as badly. I mean just think of CP2077 devs getting death threats when they announced the last delay. Of course it's an outlier but the rest of the consumers aren't disagreeing they just don't stoop to that level.

m76 got a reaction from Withywarlock in Can Quantic Dream do something else?
    Short answer: NO
There were segments in Beyond Two Souls, that could've easily been made like a regular action game, but it was still implemented as a qte infested mess.
Don't get me wrong, I love Quantic games stories and characters, but absolutely hate the way the games play. Although there is some improvement.  Heavy Rain was fully QTE driven, Beyond was a bit less heavy on them, and Detroit had very few actual QTEs that would be annoying. It was more based on actual wilful choices than reflexes.
I think Detroit would've worked all the same on an emotional level if it was more open world. It doesn't need to be this restrictive. I don't know if they are incapable or uninterested in making their games feel like actual games instead of interactive movies.

Finally someone sharing the same opinion as mine, i never liked the remake at all, maybe if you consider it as a whole other game then yes, it should be fine, but it shouldn't be called a remake for the original game at all, they just ruined everything and you don't feel like playing the original game at all.
Ridiculous voice actors, modified storyline events, modified map...

    Battlefield franchise
I don't understand how can this series exist in the same universe as COD. I'm not a big fan of COD either. But when it comes to comparing the two battlefield is complete and utter guano that makes COD look like a masterpiece.
    Burnout series
And by extension any game developed by criterion, as it is the antithesis of physics. Their motto should be: "We look at how cars behave in the real world and make sure our games don't resemble it in the slightest"

m76 got a reaction from Family sedan in What was the best era of gaming?
For me it is certainly the years around the turn of the century. So from 1998 to about 2003.  A great deal of my all time favorite most memorable games were released around that time. Incidently these also happen to be my high school years, that were a miserable time for me, I so hated high school it's incomprehensible.
    Half-Life - 1998 Unreal - 1998 Carmageddon 2 - 1998 Gran Turismo - 1998 System Shock II  - 1999 X-Wing Alliance - 1999 Gran Turismo 2 - 1999 Driver - 1999 Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed - 2000 DeusEx - 2000 Star Trek Voyager Elite Force - 2000 Max Payne - 2001 Microsoft Train Simulator - 2001 Vice City - 2002 Mafia - 2002 Command & Conquer Generals - 2003 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - 2003 Max Payne 2 - 2003 DeusEx Invisible War 2003 And this is probably not a comprehensive list just the ones I could think of right off the bat.

m76 got a reaction from StaceyPowers in How much direction do you want a game to give you?
If a game is well designed it needs no handholding at all, because you'll know intuitively what do to.
The games where you have to guess the mind of the designer to figure out what on earth are you supposed to do are badly designed.
What I find most annoying is when games don't even allow you to enter the game's main menu and adjust options before completing a tutorial / prologue mission.
I also dislike when games start spawning hints at you when you step off the beaten path. Just let me explore at my own, pace OK?
