was how I managed to fix my sleeping schedule after 7 years of struggling with insomnia. Nothing is better than not feeling tired all day and losing all day because you're sleeping

Fellow insomnia sufferer here. What fixed it for me is gaming for two hours before bed each night! How do you deal with yours?

What fact amazes you every time you think of it?

That the dinosaurs I've pictured without feathers all my life may have had them.

Which is your favorite hour of the day?

Midnight until 1 in the morning. That's when I feel my best physically and psychologically most days. You?

Going to Washington DC when I was very young. I enjoyed all the arts, history, and monuments.

If you went to the Smithsonian, which museum was your favourite?

@StaceyPowers If you liked Myst then I suggest you try the Syberia trilogy, if you haven't already. I don't remember if you've said if you've played Bioshock 1 and 2 before Infinite but if you haven't you should too 😛 Also, it's a bit obvious but a great choice similar to Fallout is Metro (the remastered editions are amazing). Also, if you're looking for a strong FPS with amazing narrative try Spec Ops the line. Some more recommendations to consider 😛 :

    Bulletstorm

Deus Ex Human Revolution / Mankind Divided

    Wolfenstein

    Prey

    Borderlands

As for games like Skyrim I would only suggest the Witcher and Dark Souls series (if you feel like pushing yourself). Kingdom Come Deliverance is also pretty good!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up for me! Everyone mentions Spec Ops The Line to me. I think that'll have to be one of my next purchases.

  5. If you’ve seen any of my posts over the past two weeks, you probably know I’m currently obsessed with Bioshock Infinite (I’m not quite done yet, so nobody give me any spoilers).

Anyway, I saw some criticism of the game somewhere involving it not being much of a challenge from a tactical standpoint, and being quite repetitious in terms of combat encounters. I could see where they were coming from, but I couldn’t see being negative about the game because of it. The strengths of the game are its setting, characters and story. The combat (to me) serves the purpose mainly of increasing immersion and also giving me time to process new information.

Obviously what I look for in a shooter is a lot different from what that person does. Then again, I am not sure I would consider Bioshock Infinite a traditional shooter anyway. The shooting is an element of the game, not its main purpose for existing.

But if I were playing a multiplayer arena-style game without a plot, I’d be very focused on mechanics, and would demand something tactically more varied/interesting.

It got me wondering what everyone here looks for in a FPS game?

  6. Is there any video game you’ve played (or watched) which has sent you into a fit of tears? I can’t say this has happened to me, but I think that’s because my emotions go on hold when I’m concentrating on something like playing a game.

(and I’m asking here specifically for games which made you cry because of story/characters, not because you found them hard to beat)

Yeah! They're pretty similar to my favorite band of all times Madrugada so I've been checking them out too. We had a real crime TV series here in Greece and the director loved to add Wovenhand, 16 horsepower and Madrugada songs during the episodes. That's basically how I loved them all 😄

I've never heard of Madrugada. I'm going to check them out now!

As a more indepth extension on what I stated, games have helped me develop my female identity, what makeup I want to use, what clothes I like wearing etc. I often have very specific ways of expressing myself in games, especially MMO's and such and the more customization options I have the better. That's why I am always a bit bothered by lack of customization in multiplayer games. It's a personal reason but a reason nonetheless.

That is a wonderful response. Thank you so much for sharing that. It's so easy for people to blow off video games for not being "real," but often, they allow us to express our real selves more than we can in "real" life.

I remember back in my Guild Wars 2 days, I used to act like an NPC citizen just to get a different feel of it. I would find houses along the way and try to figure out which one I want for more to live in, and just sit there whenever I was AFK. I would also find perfect spots for sunset gazing and look for the spots with the best view. Everyone else was grinding in PvP but those things were never for me 😄

I did a lot of that in the MUD I played too. I still remember some of the spots I loved very clearly.

I get you totally! MMOs are even more immersive on that matter since you create a character and feel like you're him/her. It just gives you all those moral questions like would I do this if I was in that state? Why can't I negotiate instead? Why can't we just all get along?? 😄

Actually, playing that game was arguably how I developed a moral compass at all as a teenager =D

Seabound are amazing. "The Promise" might be one of my all time favourite tracks. The Covenant remix is my favourite version though, even if it's a bit hard to find.

VNV Nation has some great songs but their recent albums have kinda just been the same thing over and over. I don't feel they innovate as much as they should.

I actually like the direction VNV Nation has gone over recent years, but I do see where you're coming from. And I love Covenant's remix of Torn.

16 Horsepower is pure gold ❤️

Have you listened to Wovenhand as well?

  12. I can't pick just one. Some top contenders:

Seabound, The Edge of Dawn, VNV Nation, Wovenhand, 16 Horsepower, The Cruxshadows, David Arkenstone, Andreas Vollenweider, Lacuna Coil, Ulver, The Legendary Pink Dots.

  13. You mentioned recently in a thread that gaming has helped you by giving you a way to express your gender identity.

I'd love to know more about that if you'd like to share. Feel free to PM if you prefer :)

  14. What video games do you recommend I play?

Some games I enjoy on a variety of platforms from a variety of eras: Fallout, Dragon Age, Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, The Last of Us, Quake III Arena, UT 2004, Myst, Zork.
