So true. Reflection and self-awareness are some of the key components to making healthy decisions. The one saying that always came back to me when Walker said " I didn't mean to hurt anyone." was the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Who are some video game characters who have unique and interesting outlooks/philosophies/perceptions of life? The first that comes to mind for me is Legion in Mass Effect 2.

And also that sometimes what is driving you might be buried in your unconscious, and until you root it out, your ability to make choices is compromised.

It's kind of dead in general, but still alive enough to find matches normally (in europe, that is), although the loading screens for getting into a match are basically endless. you would probably enjoy diabotical, which I think (apart from artstyle) is closer to original quake games, and it should be coming out relatively. QC also requires a pretty decent.

Yeah - I know but on the other hand, it does look like a pretty fun game. I was watching some YouTube videos and it's as fast-paced as I remember which is always a good thing.

I have no idea. I thought it was bizarre, as he was basically the Q3A mascot. You might be onto something there.

I played a lot, but the bolts came across only in the ruins. I have not seen anywhere else. Possibly there are addons for adding additional bolt types.

I wear a hematite ring on each thumb, and it helps more than people can know. The downside is that hematite is very brittle. When one breaks, if I don't have an extra to replace it, I feel completely off balance until I can get another one. I also have a large chunk of hematite in my office that I hold a lot. It calms me as it draws out negative feelings and emotions. Sometimes I put it to the ground and hold it down with my palm. I can literally feel the stress leaving my body. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's worth a shot. Just for novelty purposes, I'm looking for a piece of raw hematite. Everything I have is polished.

I do a lot of voice acting for the crew I'm with. They like the way I sound and the commanding tone I have. Our games that we come up with are just for us and friends/family. But while I'm a "thinker" I'm also a voice actress on occasion.

I dream of having the life that Arthur has in RDR2. Living with the gang I men. People actually caring about you. Not beating you every day. Not telling you how worthless you are. People needing you. People who want you around and want to be around you. I get lost in fantasy when I play the game. Those are things I never had. At this point if someone was to say "I love you" to me, it would probably destroy my psyche. If it didn't do that, then there would never be any chance of me trusting them. I know for a fact that there would be some sort of ulterior motive behind a statement like that. No one says such a thing without something else in mind.

I think it depends alot on the game and the studio. I remember watching an interview with Ashley Burch who describes a situation very similar to the one you describe when she was working on on Horizon Zero Dawn. Other games more reliant on motion capture, like TLOU, the VA's seam to be more involved and aware of what thier working on. Security and preventing leaks to press also seems to be a varying concern. The VA for Aerith in FFVII Remake is a professional actress, but also has a long running gaming YouTube channel called "Strange Rebel Gaming", so I can only imagine what that must of been like for her to know what the part was and not be able to tell anyone due an NDA. Obviously, she was allowed to reveal the truth eventually.

Overall, I feel like this varies greatly between studios and thier publishers because of differences in security protocols, methods of capture and how studio's write scripts. However, I do think the old days of VA's being given a booth, a script and a stern request to not ask questions are starting to fade.

I'd expect their to be a lot of changes.  In the original just as much if not more of the storytelling and character development is done through interactive gameplay rather than cutscenes.  To adapt that in to non-interactive media then it's obvious those parts will have to done differently.

The only game related books I read were the official mass effect novels.
The first three books by Drew Karpyshin were great, I can't recommend them enough. However the fourth book "Deception" by Dietz, is awful, avoid it like the plague. The writer was simply lazy and failed to get up to speed on even basic mass effect lore, and also ruined or wasted the characters built up by Karpyshin over the course of 3 books.
I also read the first half of the Mass Effect Andromeda NExus Uprising novel. Why just half? Because I couldn't go on, it was so atrocious. This is an entirely other level of bad, compared to deception. This is not bad due to lack of research, it's bad because it was co written by untalented hacks. I've never seen this dreary and awful writing, infused with such social propaganda. Trying to raise feelings above science, which is ironic for a science fiction novel.

Unreal 3 would really get me excited as well or another Quake Arena! I'd also look forward to another Delta Force: Black Hawk sequel which I feel was a very underrated FPS.

Heretic is always the first to come to my mind when this question is raised.
The other game that could make a comeback is Soldier of Fortune, of course the purists would have a heart attack. But you might already know my stance on gore: the more realistic the less harmful.
And of course Unreal should really make a comeback, people always talk about how Valve can't count to 3, but I didn't see an Unreal 3, did you? And quite frankly I'd be twice as excited for an Unreal 3 than a Half Life 3, I might even temporarily suspend my boycott of the epic store if they made an Unreal 3.

Are there any old FPS games/franchises you think should be rebooted? I was thinking for example of the old Hexen/Heretic games, but I believe the rights for those are under dispute.

This is a tough one but I do remember a game that really had a unique story with a philosophical question of how far you'd go to complete your "mission". The game in particular I'm talking about is Spec Ops: the line for the PS3. You play as Walker, a soldier in charge of a team sent to Dubai to complete a mission. However, as the story starts to unravel, you realize something is quite off and when it gets to the end and you realized that the person you were blaming for this situation was already dead and you were the one that really killed thousands of innocent lives. The game gives you the option to kill yourself once you know the truth, live on and continue the lie or live on accepting the truth of what you've done. The scene where he accidentally kills a bunch of refugees he was sent to save with phosphorous was the first time I ever somewhat felt any kind of remorse for an action in a game.

StaceyPowers reacted to m76 in Why aren’t more games made in first/third person?
I believe it is because both need differently designed combat. What works in third person doesn't in first and vica versa. Skyrim might have a third person view, but it's only for vanity. Actually playing the game like that is god awful imo.  I wish more games had that option too, but not to play them, just to be able to look at your character from the outside. Some games have photo mode as an alternative, like Cyberpunk 2077, where you can't play in third person, but at least can view your character from another perspective.

Actually, from what I've seen, it's quite disorientating especially without mods. There are several videos on YouTube that highlight this fact.

To be honest, I've done that with a few characters myself...for a couple of minute until I get bored and start running again. It's so tedious lol.

Honestly even Paragon and Renegade responses seem like variations on a theme to me. But I have a very minimalist concept of identity--like I only define myself by a few core traits, and the rest is just variable expressions. Like, identity = blocks in a kaleidoscope, and the patterns are just expressions. So that probably is why I see it differently.

StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel in Pre-order benefits that were worth it?
I have two. One that I actually pre-ordered, and another that was a pre-order that I bought off eBay years later. The one I got was For Honor. I got the gold edition. It had special items, armor, weapons, characters, and so on that were only available with the gold edition.
The other that I bought later on eBay was RDR2 Ultimate Edition. It also gives you certain items free and unlocks other side quests and stranger missions. The ultimate edition goes a step past the special edition. The special edition does all this for the story mode, but the ultimate also does it for the online mode. Everyone knows I don't do online gaming. The only reason I got the ultimate was because it was the only one that was available that the code hadn't been used on.
But even though the RDR2 copy was almost $200, I still say it was worth it.
