Not anymore. I think I only bought 3-4 new games last year, and I still don't have a 9th-gen console yet.

No, not those prequels. Have you ever played a game with background lore which was as good as or better than the game's main story, and it made you want to see a prequel? If so, share yours here.
A big one for me would be Final Fantasy X. I'd love to see S-E make a prequel set 1,000+ years before FFX, during the machina war between Zanarkand and Bevelle. Maybe Shuyin and Lenne could be the main characters, and we'd finally get to see Yu Yevon when he was a human, and the game could end with him performing the initial summoning of Sin. I think it would be fascinating to see Spira before Sin destroyed it. They could also explain the origins of the Al Bhed, which I'm curious about.
A prequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn would also be great. I'd love to see a third-person shooter where you have to fight the Faro machine swarm to buy time for the Zero Dawn project to be completed.

Yeah, it's looking more and more like the controller. Best of luck with the inspection and be sure to let me know.

I think this is some sort of issue with the game. I've come across stories of similar control issues on both PS3 and PS4. If you haven't done so, try reinstalling the game and, if possible (I don't know if the PS3 is still supported like this) make sure the game and system software is up[ to date.

Could you please tell me what platform you playing this on and what controller this is? I just want to do a little troubleshooting as I've had a lot of experience with 3rd party controllers and know that there can be solutions to these issues that don't involve having to buy a new controller. On the contrary, I find that that doesn't really work on most occasions.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from Knight Plug in Resident Evil 9 could be open-world?
One of the reasons I like the RE series is that the games aren't open world and can be beaten in 12 hours or less. I'll definitely pass on this one.

HowHammerYou reacted to killamch89 in Games you've been excited for only to be disappointed with them on release
I'm sure all of us have had games we've been looking forward to for years only for them to massive disappointments on release. Here's a few games that make my list:
Star Wars Battlefront II - Caught up in the nostalgia of the original Battlefront games on the PS2, I was so confident this was going to be a hit that I pre-ordered. Needless to say, on launch it was a massive flop. That was also the last time I ever pre-ordered a game. Cyberpunk 2077 - We were all gushing over this game years before its release and I almost pre-ordered it but I remembered my last experience with Battlefront. To say that the launch was a massive disappointment wouldn't even begin to describe how I felt. The game was buggy and borderline unplayable at times. It's pretty good after the many patches and the DLCs. Starfield - I was cautiously optimistic based on what I saw. However, given Bethesda's recent record, a part of me was saying that they'd give us a subpar experience so my expectations were reasonably low. I got this game for free and when I tell you that I'm still disappointed, you wouldn't have any idea.  The universe just feels devoid of content - the worlds are bland. Modding Elder Scrolls games and Fallout is one thing because those games had a decent amount of content to begin with. Starfield, on the other hand, felt like playing in a massive void. What games we're you excited for before release only for them to leave you massively disappointed after release?

MGSV: The Phantom Pain. Nothing like spending hundreds of hours playing what was billed as the final chapter of Big Boss' saga, then finding out the character you're playing as isn't even Big Boss. That ending burned me so bad I haven't touched any of my MGS games since, and it used to be one of my favorite series.
FFVII Remake. That game was so good until the last chapter where they brought in the multiverse BS that wasn't in the original game.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from killamch89 in Day one console purchase or wait for the 'rehash'?
I never buy consoles day one, I usually wait a year or two for them to iron out the hardware/software bugs that inevitably occur with a new console launch. Also, neither of the last two console generations had any games at launch that I wanted to play, and there's no sense in buying a console if there's nothing worth playing on it.
That said, my new strategy is to skip a generation and wait for the next one. Game development cycles are getting so long that most of the big series are skipping a generation anyhow. I'm fairly certain that Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6, Final Fantasy VII Part 3, Red Dead Redemption 3, Elden Ring 2, Horizon 3, and other games of that caliber are going to be launch titles for the PS6 and Xbox Y. I might pick up a cheap used PS5 to play Dragon's Dogma 2, but that's a big maybe as there's only 3-4 games on the console that I want.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from killamch89 in PS5 Pro Might Feature AI Upscaling, AMD Hints
Upscaling is about the only thing I will tolerate AI doing. I'm almost completely opposed to AI, because it's a replacement for the human mind and eventually humanity in general. I'm reminded of a quote from The Matrix, "This was the peak of your civilization. I say your civilization because as soon as we began making your decisions for you, it became our civilization." But whatever, just as long as they don't allow it to learn outside its programming.
I was planning to buy a PS5 Pro this year, but Sony recently made a very strange statement regarding the PS5. They said it was in the latter part of its life cycle already. Now the PS5 is just over 3 years old, so if it's already past the halfway point, that would indicate the PS6 releasing in 2026 instead of the previously rumored 2028 release. So why would I buy a new console now if they're just going to release another one in roughly 2 years? Plus I'm certain that the PS6 will be getting all of the PS5 games as (possibly 8K) remasters. I guess I'll be playing Elden Ring Complete Edition Remastered and Demon's Souls Remake Remastered on the PS6.🤣
Really, Sony's statement about the PS5 reminds me of when the president of SEGA said, "The Sega Saturn isn't our future." and killed interest in that console.

I'm going to wait until it's released but I'm also excited for this. I remembered the original Battlefront games on PS2 - I loved them and the fact that I'll get to replay these games again brings back great memories. I just hope EA doesn't screw this up somehow.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from killamch89 in Forgotten horror games that deserve remakes or reboots
A forgotten horror game from an otherwise very popular horror series: Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. It's so forgotten that Capcom forgot to release it physically when they ported their old RE games to PS4 and Xbox One. It was the only RE game remaster to be released digital-only. It's probably my favorite or second favorite game in the series, and I really hope it winds up being Capcom's next remake.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from killamch89 in What stopped you from being too much into gaming?
For me, it's a variety of reasons:
First, I don't have as much time anymore. Second, more and more often, games are disappointing or releasing in incomplete states. Third, games just aren't designed for my generation anymore. I first realized that when I bought BOTW and saw they had managed to shoehorn smartphones into a Zelda game as an integral gameplay element. Fourth, games these days are too big. The open-world monogenre has turned video games into massive timesinks that take hundreds of hours to finish, and I'm just not into that.

HowHammerYou reacted to Empire in Safe to say future consoles won't have physical media/disc drives?
Consoles will only become all digital ONLY if every location on earth has broadband readily available for cheap and with high bandwidth. As I don’t see that happening in the near future, physical media is here to stay.
And then there is the issue of cost of maintaining servers that can dish out the data fast enough on release days for new titles. No one wants a next gen console and then have to wait days for their game to finally install. At worst they would have to wait a few minutes for their disc to install.

During 8th Gen, devs focused way too much on using the consoles' power to render increasingly massive worldspaces at the expense of every other aspect of their games. As a result of this, the few games that bucked the trend (such as Until Dawn) tend to look far more visually advanced than open-world games which released 5 years later. The open-world concept, which had been fun in 7th gen when worldspace sizes were far more manageable, grew to become one of the greatest blights video games have ever seen. Thankfully, I've begun to notice a trend very recently where big devs seem to be moving away from the open-world concept or at least reducing the sizes of their worldspaces. This makes me very happy.

Personal two highlights for me so far :
Announcement of two new yakuza games and a release in the west of Like a Dragon: Ishin! or Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin! as it was previously called. Microsoft who finally gets it and is starting getting more and more jrpg's and other more japanese titles on their platform, why are you only realising now that western players like their jrpg's, you should have realised that 10 years ago. Here is hoping a lot of these games get physical releases because yeah microsoft, people still buy their games on a disc in 2022.  Overall if anything is to be believed 2023 is shaping up the be one of the best years in gaming, well i'm sure a couple of games are going to be delayed but damn 2023 is going to be so much better then this year.

Your stance towards multiplayer games is understandable - Nowadays, multiplayer games have become so toxic, that I'm not half as interested in playing rounds with randoms anymore. I mean, it's just a game and people need to lighten up.

But I've said that many times over - Skyrim the base game is average at best. And so are most of Bethesda's games - it's the modding community that made them what they are.
I love the work that CDPR does with their games but Cyberpunk 2077 is a poor game - the concept was decent but the end product was disastrous so of course we can say that. It's just that gamers aren't holding studios accountable - I'm not a fanboy of any company. I could love all the work they've done in the past but a buggy game at $60 is a no go no matter who it is.
The old Battlefront games aren't just brilliant to me because of the lack of microtransactions. The storytelling plus the gameplay is what really made me love the old Battlefront games and still cherish them. Battlefront 2 is such a poor and lazy release for $60 compared to the original and that's why I have such a very negative outlook on it. It'd be the same with the GTA trilogy edition - I'm a huge GTA fan but when a company starts really dropping their standards, I'm not going to support them because I know what they are fully capable of producing if they really wanted to.

HowHammerYou got a reaction from DC in How often do you buy video games the week they release?
I don't. Usually what I do is wait a few weeks for feedback and gameplay videos to filter out so I can see if it's something I'd even want to buy. Then if I still want to buy it, I wait until it hits $30 or less. The only games I don't wait for a price drop on are first-party Nintendo games, since Nintendo rarely if ever drops their prices.

Agreed, the whole Aminus thing always felt unnecessary to me.  I don't think I have ever gave a fraction of a shit about the characters or story arc's that surround it. They have thankfully been marginalising it with later releases but they really should just get rid of it completely as far as I'm concerned.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I wish AC just forgot the present completely and just be period pieces set in various times through history. I never liked the original AC games, the first one I liked was Odyssey which was the third I played after AC 1 and 2.

If it includes all of the DLC released for the game on-disc, or is a complete remake of a game I liked from 2 or more generations ago, I'm generally ok with it.

I hear you. At least with something like Gamepass there's a console or PC with games to play on them left to fall back on. With stadia, the collapse of it's service leaves you with nothing left that's useful after your investment.
