I remember back in the N64/PS1 era, I was initially personally opposed to playing FF8. Hear me out on this one. I was used to playing games that followed a specific map. Think games like Castlevania SOTN. Or Zelda OoT. Also any Mario Game. So when I looked at FF8 I wasn't wanting to play because I thought it was too "open" of a game. Meaning that the world was too big, and you could just circle the globe endlessly. With a game like that, I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing next. And to be honest, with what I was used to, it kinda scared me. But now we have open end games like Skyrim, and I look at FF8 and think "I can't believe I thought that was such an open game". Does anyone else ever think things like this?

I'm making this post as a 180 to the post about games that left you disappointed. We all have games that we heavily anticipate and are excited as hell for, and are counting down the minutes until their release. As already mentioned, there are often games that left a lot to be desired, and left us feeling disappointed or even cheated. But then there are games that blow our minds as to how awesome they are. More than we ever expected. For me I would have to say the number one game is a tie between Mario 64 and Zelda OoT. I knew going in that the N64 was a revolutionary piece of hardware, but the level of dynamics, not just graphics, but game capabilities, was more than I ever could have expected. I had been playing either side scrollers, or games that look down from above at your character. The 360° view of them went above and beyond. What are the games that surpassed your expectations?

Those were all a bit too cartoony for what I'm looking for. I did however mark Detention in my wish list, just so I could remember it.

I'm looking for a good horror game for my Switch. Not something action oriented. Instead I'm looking for something like the game @skyfire posted HERE. Something with the creep factor all the way up to a full 10/10. Or if there's any at 15/10 or more that would be even better. Basically, I'm looking for something that could possibly make me shit my pants.

As we move into the future, more and more games are becoming digital downloads. even now, many games are sold in plastic boxes the same as before, but there is no disc or cartridge inside the box. Only a digital code to download the game. So it looks to me that by the time the era of consoles after the PS5/ Series X/ Switch are known as the "previous" era, everything will be purely digital. There will be no such thing as a physical game made anymore. Which means Sony will lose big bucks, as they own the patent on BLU-Ray discs, and that's what most disc systems are using currently as they hold vastly more data than other disc formats. To me, the only possible life left for physical games is Nintendo. They have always went with physical games. Granted, anything you can get physical for Switch you can also get digital, but they are still programming carts. Farewell physical games. It was fun while it lasted.

Fitting isn't it?

I can't play DKC, even though I have the entire trilogy on SNES. It pisses me off too much. -
Pick one videogame that represents you as a person.

Yeah it's a Montana. It needs work, right now. When I'm sitting at a light, it sounds like the transmission is grinding some. But when I get going the noise stops. I'm wanting to get some money saved up and try to trade it in and get a new one. Don't get me wrong, it's a great van. The only problem I have with it as far as opinion goes is that the ramp deploys from the side, which can make parking a bitch, even in the handicapped spots. People like to park within 6" of you which means I can't load my damn chair. If the load was from the back instead, that wouldn't raise a problem. But I don't know, I kinda like the way it's set up. It's a really nice van. I got lucky with it. I got it for $8000. I sold the car I had before that for $4700, so that covered more than half of it. Now aside from the chair, the most valuable thing I own is my skull collection and my Zippo collection. SO if I need money desperately, I could dip into them. I don't want to, but I could if I have to.

At the moment, I've been forced to drive what I was able to find. I have to have a disability van with a ramp for my power chair. So I'm in a Pontiac right now. But the last Chevy I owned was a 91 S-10. I drove it forever until the transmission finally blew. I couldn't afford to fix it, so I had to junk it. Since then, due to being on disability, I had to drive what I could afford, which usually led me to cars that would die within a year. Typically because the previous owner didn't keep up with required maintenance, like oil changes. When you're broke you can't afford to be choosy. But at least Pontiac is owned by GM. So that's a plus. But if I had the option I would be driving either an Avalanche, Colorado, or a Trailblazer. I love all 3. But probably the Trailblazer though. I'm a bit of a sucker for SUV's.

Ok, I'm in. When the Xbox releases its copy. Uh, also, what is FeelsBadMan? Is it something I missed in the trailer, or something else entirely?

I can't say I'm a fan of the title. It just perpetuates the myth that sharks are bloodthirsty for human flesh, when actually they only bite out of curiosity. They experience things like a toddler, by putting it in their mouth. The only real reason a shark would flat out eat a human is if its food supply was too low and it was starving. It's been well documented that sharks don't like the taste of human. There are only a handful of exceptions like the bull shark and hammerhead that are true maneaters, but their attacks are the most rare. Especially the hammerhead. It's like the hype after Jaws came out. Great movie, but it made everyone who saw it an expert on how the great white shark only wanted to kill humans. But you know what? My ass is full of shit too.

I'm curious. Which one?

Trashtalk can be excusable though if the two are friends. It's been my experience that friends talk shit to each other all the time, but it's mostly all in jest. When that's the situation, I see no problem, personally. I've never been in that situation, because I've literally never had a friend. But I've seen it second hand.

We all like a variety of games. We have our favorites, and we have the ones we absolutely despise. But what is a game that you love that no one would ever see you being a fan of? Everyone here knows that I love the most brutality I can get. The more depraved the better. It’s why I like Hatred so much. But one game that I also enjoy the hell out of is Banjo Kazooie on N64. For those who don’t know, it’s a children’s game, mainly aimed at kids under ten, would be my guess for intended age range. But it’s fun as hell, and the bird (Kazooie) is such a smartass that it adds some humor to the game as well. Who here would ever have expected someone like me to be into a children’s game? Exactly. So what’s a game no one would ever have with you in the same thought?

I'm not an online gamer, but back in the day, I did play at a couple gaming cafe's. People there got really intense with each other in the head to head modes on games. I stayed away from that, as it was a headache that I didn't need. That was more than 20 years ago though. These days, I no longer play any form of online gaming. But I do have some games that are so difficult that it's beyond the unfair stage to the point of cruelty by the designers (they're ROM-hacks) that I can only play them a couple times a year. About a month ago, I finally beat the 3rd dungeon of one that I had been trying to beat for almost a year. It's a Zelda ROM-hack on SNES. When I make a little bit of progress, I shut it off and take a VERY long break from that game. Meaning months and months. Possibly more than a year. Another game that I have that I refuse to play is the DKC trilogy on SNES. I've beaten the first 2 but never even played the third. I only own it because I wanted to complete the trilogy. I don't play it anymore because every time I do I end up going nuclear bitch in roid-rage. It pisses me off so bad, that I just don't even put them in the machine anymore. And haven't for probably more than 10 years. TL/DR I just don't go around things that I know will be toxic for me. If I'm unaware, then I learn from the situation, move on, and try not to make the same screw up again.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm more of a collector than an actual player, when I consider all the games I have that I have never played, or perhaps only played once, regardless of whether I liked it or not. The games I have, I honestly bought with the full intention of playing them. That part is true. I even have games that I've bought 3 and 4 copies of because I kept forgetting that I had the game. That's why every month now I print up a full game list that I keep in my purse so I don't keep buying a game over and over needlessly. But if I'm becoming more of a collector than a player, well then, so be it I guess. I think a big part of that is the status of the gaming world. Everything is getting fancier, and more high tech, and that's just not my thing. Sure the graphics are beautiful to look at, but they just don't appeal to me. And what does is all but forgotten. If you ask a kid today to name one game from Atari, NES, or SNES, they wouldn't have a clue what the hell you were talking about. They would be like "I know those words but that sentence makes no sense." You tell them you had a Nintendo when you were a kid and they'll look at you with a puzzled look and say "Wii?" No. A Nintendo Entertainment System. Heart surgery with a butterknife was a daily occurrence. Asthma attacks were a daily occurrence. Kickboxing was a daily occurrence. They have no clue. Back then, if you apply just a little bit of violence to the machine it often fixed the problem. Now a slight tap and it's like "SHIT! IT BROKE! My Nintendo once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

My life more or less revolves around my PC and game consoles as well, but I still like to see something other than the same 4 walls closing in, inch by inch, and making every room smaller and smaller every day. Claustrophobia is one of my biggest problems. And being stuck inside is one of the biggest causes of it to kick into high gear.

From the way you guys are talking you would hate the FF8 remaster. With one exception, it's pretty much just enhanced graphics. The exception is the items. The few that you had to get through a PocketStation are now available in the game. Angelo Has to dig them up in a battle, but they're still there. I've gotten more than 10 Ribbons, and close to 10 Friendships. I'm still hoping for a Mogs Amulet, but haven't been that lucky yet. I would have loved to see some addons to the game. Even if it was just extra side quests. But, alas, there was none. I was one of the 4 people in the gaming world that didn't like FF7 to begin with, but if the story has been altered and the characters updated, I may give it another shot. I'll just have to relearn the whole materia thing, seeing as I haven't played it in more than 20 years. Not since I discovered FF8, which is my absolute favorite game, not counting NES games.

I find this an interesting coincidence. The newspaper on campus here is called The Maneater. That's the second odd thing to happen to me today.

Once again I'm on Zelda OoT. I'm sensing a pattern here.
