The Blackangel got a reaction from Family sedan in What games are most relevant to our times?
The games I play never really encountered reality. I can't think of a single one on NES, SNES, or N64 that ever encountered reality with the exception of sports games and sims games. Just as a note, to me a sports game includes any form of car driving/racing game.
Games based off TV and movies (Bond 007, Jeopardy, etc.) don't count.
But to get back to my original point, I would have to try hard as hell, and do a lot of searching to find myself one game that even remotely seemed to relate to the human world or modern world in any way from any of those 3 systems. It would be fun, and interesting to do, but I know there are none in my library, with the exception of snowboarding games.

The Blackangel got a reaction from StaceyPowers in What makes you laugh uncontrollably while gaming?
Something funny like that happens in RDR2. When you kill a muskrat, it sounds like a woman having an orgasm. The first time I heard it, I was sure it was a glitch. So I found a few more, and knew right away that it was scripted. That's when I started laughing.
I need to shut up about RDR2. It's starting to get to the point that it's the only game I talk about.

The Blackangel got a reaction from Crazycrab in Nearly 80% of video game characters are male
I think one of the reasons that the vast majority of game characters are male is due to gaming history. In the early days of gaming, starting with the Atari in 1977, gaming was targeted at a male base. They knew that guys didn't want to play as a girl. That was too effeminate and would challenge their masculinity. The first game that ever featured a female lead was Ms Pac-Man. And all that was, was Pac-Man with a bow. Other than that, there was literally no difference in the two games. But at the same time, we had games like Custer's Revenge. It was nothing more than a rape simulator, as that was the goal of the game. Look it up if you don't believe me.
And then you have to look at the beginning of games with female leads. The first Tomb Raider showed o woman with a 10" waist and tits bigger than her head. Every 17 year old boys fantasy woman. Thankfully they have gone more realistic with their depictions. We also got Barbie dolls more realistically designed as it gave an unrealistic standard of beauty to young girls. But that's getting off topic.
So since in the early days gaming was targeted to a male base, that mentality has carried over to gaming today. Sure, the amount of games that feature female leads are a billion times more than they were in the beginning, they're still not anywhere near the amount of games with male leads.

Those of us that grew up on them that still play them talk about them often, and fondly. Classic gamers typically have no interest in going beyond a certain point, with an exception or two. People hear us talking about these games, and their curiosity gets peaked. Some check it out to figure out what the hell we're talking about. Others check it out to laugh at us for playing 2, 4, and 8 bit games. Whereas they're playing lifelike games. It's what brought out the flashback craze. Curiosity by modern gamers. The big 3 heard about the curiosity, made a mini system with roughly 30 games installed on it, and sold them. It's a shameful money grab, but it made them big bucks anyway. Obviously the NES flashback runs better than a 35 year old NES, but those of us that are 80's children and grew up on systems like Atari, Colecovision, and NES often prefer the old ones for nostalgic reasons. And the majority of us want to puke at the mere thought of a flashback console.
I'm a classic gamer because those are the games that I have always enjoyed and developers weren't afraid to be unique with their games. Games like A Boy And His Blob haven't been seen since. There is no game on any disc system where you feed a blob jellybeans to turn it into things you need (ladder, umbrella, etc.) to help it get back to its home planet called Blobonia. Blaster Master had a couple piss poor sequels that flopped miserably. There were the classic beat 'em ups like Double Dragon that you don't see anymore. They have largely (if not completely) gone the way of the dodo in exchange for games like Mortal Kombat and other fighting games.
The individuality and uniqueness is what made those games so special. Nowadays everything is a sequel. There's no individuality, and developers are scared to take a chance with something new and off the wall completely different and unique. That is largely part of the reason classic gamers are turned off by the new and current stuff. I won't lie, I play on my Switch constantly. It's great to have something that powerful that is portable. But I also play on my Game Boy. When I'm home I do play RDR2 a hell of a lot. But I spend an immensely greater amount of time on my NES, SNES, and N64 than I do on RDR2. That's about the only modern game I even play. I have 2 or 3 others that aren't on Switch that I play, but that's it. They're mainly system exclusives (GoW for example) but I will never give up what I grew up on. One thing that I look back on fondly is that I saved up literally every penny I could get to buy myself a SNES. I wanted one so desperately that I saved up for over a year. And when I finally brought that thing home, I couldn't get off of it.

I'm 39. The disease is Muscular Dystrophy. In my case, advanced MD. There is no cure, as it's a genetic disease. Both a persons parents have to be carriers of a faulty gene for a person to have MD. There are medications to help try to manage the pain, but they're not always effective. I have some pain meds that I only take in extreme cases like oxycodone. I also have a medical marijuana card. This is a lifelong disease. In my case it was adult onset, as it wasn't even noticeable when I was a kid. It just got progressively worse over the years, to the point now that I'm wheelchair bound for the rest of my life.

I think the loss of the million would be less devastating than the thought going through your mind "If only I had taken the hundred grand..."
That to me would be more devastating, because the hundred grand was a guarantee, but you threw it away for bad odds at getting 1 million. And with that $100k, if you invest it right, you can easily turn it into more than 1 million. That amount of bank can grow quickly and massively. So you wouldn't really be missing that million for long.

This should be obvious for me. Space, definitely. No question about it whatsoever. Go traveling around to the different planets in our own solar system before heading out to the rest of the galaxy. After that, if I'm still alive check out other galaxies. Andromeda is really close to us (2.537 million light years) so I would most likely head there.
For a little bit of reference, the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. In the metric system, it is roughly 300,000 km per second.

The 50/50 for $1,000,000 is tempting, but I would have to go with the guaranteed $100,000 as well. There's so much I could do with it, that I wouldn't be worried about losing any of it, because I would be investing it through a highly reputable stock broker. The rest of it I would blow on a few toys. Like my favorite car, and a couple collectibles that I have always wanted.

I am extremely trypophobic. What that is, is a fear of small holes in large groups. Unfortunately mine also extends to bumps as well. In my case it is also potentially lethal. I would like to ask that if you are going to post an image in a thread you create, to put a tag or something in the title that would let me, (and others like me) know that there is something that would trigger the phobia, so that we know to stay the hell out of the thread. If you want an example of what I'm talking about you can see one in this thread here. There are also tons of images on google, but I'm not going to try to link any, as doing so could possibly stop my heart in the process.
I know this is asking a lot, and I don't have the right to have everyone make special accommodations just for me. But if you can at least give a warning on posts like this, it could prolong my life and at least let me die peacefully instead of literally dying of fright. So I would appreciate it more than you could ever know.
I'm sorry if this sounds overly dramatic, but on my end it's an extreme situation. My girl often has to come home from work just to "talk me down" so to speak, and get me through it.

That is something that has boggled my mind ever since I first heard about it. You're playing a graphic war game, where the point of the game is to kill your enemy who is being played by someone else most likely. It is violent and blood is flying as your comrades die. That is fine with everyone, yet calling someone a wimp is over the line? You can kill with impunity, but you better make damn sure you don't call anyone a wimp.
    Yeah, makes perfect sense.
