  1. Mobile games shutting down is nothing to cry about. These games are so heavily dependant on microtransactions being built into thier gameplay, that a lot of them become unplayable with out them. I remember watching a video from James Stephanie Sterling on a mobile game that became playable offline, but couldn't be beaten because you would really need purchase some bullshit item to get through it (I tried to find the video, but couldn't, sorry). On PC and console, especially if the game is not FTP, it is more of an issue. I remember them shutting down Gravity Rush's 2 online component after only about a year, but that only disabled parts of that component, the rest of the game is still perfectly playable. It's when games get shut down and become unplayable that this really becomes an issue.
  2. Amazing to know that FF XI is still going. Is it only on private servers or is the game still officially supported?
  3. Remember, Epic's "15 days of Christmass" is still going on, so be sure to check either this thread or your Epic Store launcher to claim the daily freebies.
  4. I nominate @ImmersionGaming22. May not be the most frequent poster, but put a lot of detail and kindness into what he posts. The fact only complain I have, if you can call it that, is that "you post enough" is actually a testament to much I like him being here.
  5. Yes, the 2021 game is (currently) on Game Pass and the 2017 game is not (currently) on Game Pass. It is very fortunate that's true, otherwise it would be impossible to tell what game this was in reference to. Either way, @Smokey mentioning Game Pass was not a deliberate attempt to make it clear what game this was in refence to, and why would @Smokey do that to clarify this? Anyone blessed with both the knowledge there was at least one other GOTG game and even a modicum of common sense would not have relied on that to make it clear. They would art covert art, year of release, link to a store page (For the record, that's what I would do), post a trailer, mention what developer/publisher was behind it, not say "I played it on Game Pass". The only reason that helped was dumb luck. So no, @Smokey, you nor anyone else can use the research I did for you as retroactive excuse for piss poor effort you in making your own thread clear. As the thread author, I shouldn't have to do that for you. Mentioning Game Pass made it possible to figure it out what game it, but not only was it complete fluke because the other game just happens to not be on Game Pass right now, it also doesn't serve the purpose in the long term. What if we get a situation in the future that both games end up on Game Pass. Or if the 2021 game leaves Game Pass? Both of you read the OP again and tell me honestly that you would be able to tell what game @Smokey was talking about if either of those things were to happed. Exactly, you can't. Hell, you can't tell what this was in refence to right now just by reading OP, no without doing your own research into what GOTG games are on Game Pass. Much like I did and spared everybody else the trouble. For that, you are welcome @Smokey, but be honest because the truth is plain to see. You failed to clarify what game you were referring to because either; You didn't know about another Major GOTG game. Couldn't care if there was and was happy to lazily put up a very vague topic up. Or both Like I said, in the future I expect you to start new threads with same care and effort put into them. I'm not saying it needs to be like one of my infamous reviews with video clips and screenshots that take a day to write, just something clear and concise. And @Shortie, I know you've got some sort of issue with me, but believe it or not I have no issue with you. I massaged you one time over a very minor thing and now you're on a bloodhunt for some reason. Following my posts around to then pounce on them and take the opposite stance just to provoke me is pathetic. Just like here, you will inevitably get tripped up and say something that makes no sense and just makes you look foolish because when one writes a forum post in anger, one never thinks it through. I've been in you position myself and it never ends well. So for your own sake, not mine, drop this vendetta and just enjoy the forum. Either way, discussion on this issue is closed. It's clear what game this was about, it was clear before @Shortie's spiteful and completely unnecessary provocation, we can all move on.
  6. Given what I have seen on censorship on other threads and videos, there isn't much that surprises me there. I did find the Doki Doki Literature Club a bit odd, just by changing the colour of blood people aren't going to assume the character is bleeding cola (If anything, that's more disturbing). I am happy to learn that Valve fought for Left 4 Dead 2, good on them.
  7. In future, could I ask that you include store page links, trailers, cover art, publisher/developer details or something so we can identify what game specifically you're talking about? I know of at least two GOTG video games in recent years. One from Telltale in 2017; And another from Eidos-Montréal/Square Enix 2021: I'm going to assume you're talking about the 2021 game because that's the one I found on GamePass, but I make no apologies if I've got it wrong. While I'm at it, would it be fair to ask people when they start a new topic to put a little more effort into it than this? Two vague sentences with no artwork, videos or anything is hardly likely to inspire a deep, busy conversation. Take a little pride in what your doing as the author of a thread, please. I haven't played it, nor did I feel very encouraged to given how the same publisher made such a mess of that Avengers game, but the game have a very positive rating on Steam and generally favourable reviews. At the time of typing this, it's also discounted, so this could be the time to give it a try. So here I go, 85GB to download. Yes, this going to take a while, but I'm optimistic that it will be worth it.
  8. I must confess, I did actually laugh when I first read that because here in the UK, DFS is a furniture store: I think I can safely assume that DFS in America is an acronym for some kind of social work service, but something about "the sofa experts" adopting at risk kids children from unfit parents I just found really funny.
  9. Whilst I don't completely understand what Epic allegedly did in relation to darkening icons to make people buy skins by accident, it all sounds (Quite literally) very shady indeed. Banning accounts for disputing these purchases and collecting data from minors is still enough to justify this lawsuit. What does really annoy me about this is that you just know that other publishers have employing the same tactics for other free-to-play games because of how lucrative and successful Fortnite has become. I have never and likely will never play the game because I don't agree with the phycological manipulation they employ (They pretty much encourage class-based bullying.), so this news makes little difference to me, but companies like Epic need to be made an example of when they do this kind of thing to discourage others copying thier predatory monetisation tactics.
  10. I think she deserves a little credit. Despite her wholly ignorant point of view, she did at least find a creative way to express it. Most transphobes, homophobes and racists are pathetically predicable, but this is at least something different. She's still very much wrong and for obvious reasons. Identifying as a cat just to make a point misses the point. Being transgender, genderfluid or non-binary isn't about claiming you're something you're not for an audience, it's about finding out how to feel comfortable in your own skin.
  11. It's interesting how rare it actually is for game companies to do this officially. I know of the Sega Nomad that was basically a portable version of the Megadrive/Genesis; And of course we have the Switch which serves as both a portable and home console in one, but other than that I can't actually think of any official portable game console that was a version of a home console. Why haven't more game companies done this?
  12. How can you not love AVGN. But yeah, some weird shit was made for Game Boy.
  13. Fun fact, this planet, Earth, can't sustain the current human population naturally, not even close. We really should number half of what we do at the most. It's only thanks to the work of a German chemist named Fritz Haber that our population could grow to the point that it is today thanks to him basically inventing fertilizer, something that earned him a Nobel Prize. It could be true that nobody else in history has the lives of more people owed to them than Frits Harber. Unfortunatly, Fritz is also something of a controversial figure as he is also known as "The Father of Chemical Warfare" as the inventor of Chlorine Gas and other chemical weapons during WW1. But onto the topic, and aside form the implementation of, let's say, somewhat "facist" ideas, there really isn't much that we could do. China's "one child" law didn't really work it not like genocide is very palatable.
  14. Like @Shortie said and confirmed by my research, you can download additional songs for Clone Hero, but even the application on its own contains some music as part of the package, not to mention the user interface is ripped straight from Guitar Hero. So I would have to conclude the game even on it's own is still a bit naughty.
  15. Why is it when it comes to you I can't simply moderate the forum without you taking it like a personal attack? I could have said nothing then pounced on someone for including a link to download Clone Hero, or just locked and/or deleted this this thread completely. but no. For showing you some courtesy I get nothing but your venom. If you want to stop being, and I quote, "treated like a child", stop behaving like one. Don't worry, through, lesson learned. Since you're clearly not happy with me giving you benefit of the doubt, I won't do that anymore. Next time and every time I see a post from that sits on the borderline of the rules, I'll just delete it. Is that more to your preference? And by the way, I'm not a fool. I did do a little research before I made my original post and there is no doubt that Clone Hero does infringe on copyright. So keep making a fuss about this and I will lock this thread.
  16. If what you describe is true @Shortie, there is no way that Clone Hero is legal. Not only will the game include copyright protected data ripped from games like Guitar Hero and Rockband (And they would have to rip that data, otherwise they would never be able to encode the controls properly), the music itself will not be properly licenced either. We have rules on VGR. I've thought about it, and I've decided discussion of this will be permitted as discussion on emulation is permitted so long as instructions or links to aid in video game piracy and not included, but in that same light any posts that include links to download Clone Hero or any of it's content will be removed.
  17. @Kane99, the link you posted in the OP doesn't work. It now redirects to the yahoo homepage. I assume that means the original article has been removed. I've edited your opening post to include another article I found on the story, but I've kept in the original link so people know whare you linked it from. Onto the topic. I don't mean to turn this into a political debate, but why am I not shocked that it's people clearly sympathizing with Russia being responsible for this? And this is exactly why it is pisses me off. Whether that was the goal or not is pen to debate, this act of "trolling" could have been the spark to trigger world war three. Thankfully, the rest of the world is not as stupid as they are (Although, just barely, and that's worrying.) and didn't fall for it. Social media platforms have removed the original video (understandably), but that so called media outlets thought it was real footage when it came from what is a pretty old game at this point is embarrassing.
  18. I love games. I have no care on what system I play them on. So I'm sorry, the concept of this thread is a bit alien to me. The closest I can get to an answer is playing games on PC because PC gaming really can be a complete pain in the ass at times, but there's so much that's good about PC gaming that I can't exactly claim to hate it.
  19. Whilst the graphics and aesthetics of a video game closely are connected, a game with bad graphics will be less apparelling to they eye than a a good with good graphics, they are not the same thing. Weather or not a game's aesthetics are appealing and work to the mood and atmosphere a game is trying to create or not are tied into a number of things, mostly related to the creative vision of the game. Whatever style, ambiance, atmosphere or what (if anything) the game is trying to simulate is all tied up into the creator's vision. Any faults in with a game's aesthetics are down to a fault either with that vision, or a game's graphics to display that vision accurately. Graphis are the technical part of the visuals, they have a function. They are there to display the game as the visual aid to help the player control the game accurately. Anything graphics do beyond that are just another part of the artistic vision of the game. The point is there is a difference between bad graphics and bad aesthetics, and it is very rare that we get a game with bad graphics as opposed to bad aesthetics in in this day in age. Maybe this is better explained with examples. If parts of the user interface blend into the background making them hard to see, that's bad graphics. I'd also say if a game has low-res textures, graphical bugs and surfaces that look pixelated compared to the objects and environment around them, that's also bad graphics as the game is not displaying the objects and environment as envisaged by the creator accurately. Bad aesthetics is when the the game works fine, but the way things actually look don't work and serve to break immersion, interrupt the mood or otherwise distract the player. Or, perhaps, if environment, characters or objects are jus just flat out unappealing to look at, but depending on the games artistic vison that might be the goal, especially it's a horror game, so that doesn't always apply. So ,do graphics matter to me? Yes, but all I really ask of them is to fulfil thier function as I described. I expect modern games to represent thier creators vision as accurately as the available technology will allow, but I won't dismiss a game for looking bit out of date. One of my favourite games in Tales of Berseria, a game that I admit has pretty dated visuals for a game that came out as late as 2017, but it's still a great game.
  20. The whole point of VR is to trick your senses into making you believe you are in another environment, so it's inevitable that it will cause at least some disorientation. Given that motion sickness is basically caused by a conflict between your senses of vision and motion, it's certainly possible that VR could induce this. I haven't actually tried a modern VR system, but if I did it wouldn't help you because everyone will react differently. Sorry, but they only way to know is to try it.
  21. To discuss specific games, please post topics to the Video Games sub forum. Might I als suggest that most of the games your making new topics about will have threads about them already. There is a search function on the forum to help you find them at the top righthand side of the webpage you can use to find recently active posts and threads on a certain topic. Anyway, moving this as well as some other recent thread about specific games to the Video Games sub-forum.
  22. I'm going to lock this thread as I feel this can be just easily be discussed on the the thread, "What games do you play at Christmas with family or on your own", a thread you stared. A seasonal event is a reason to play a game at a certain time and a Christmas event is no different. Somebody could go onto that thread and say "I play Fortnite at Christmas because of the event", just like you did here it would be perfectly valid in that discussion, so there is no reason to have entirely separate thread. Not to mention you posted the other thread not even 4 hours ago and has only had one reply so far, give it a chance.

    Gaming mouse?

I'm sure I've posted about it before, but what I use is a Logitech G502 Hero Gaming Mouse. A proper, customisable gaming mouse is must for me as I like to transfer as much control over to the mouse as possible. I've been using the same model for a couple of years and I love it. It has removable weights to help you adjust the mouse's physical balance and very easy to use software for button reprograming, although the mouse's internal memory will only store 5 profiles which is a little annoying. 11 programable button controls, adjustable DPI and sensitivity, it's comfortable and works well across a multitude of surfaces.
  24. I'm more of a fan of arcade racers and "kart" racers. It's not like I have anything against driving sim's, I just think that other types of racing games are more creatively diverse and have more to offer.
  25. Perhaps it's the fact that they made a memorable game amidst that calamity that made it successful. Of course COD's gameplay mechanics have been updated and improved since then, it's been over a decade, but with the possible exception of Black Ops III, Modern Warfare 2 was the last COD to have any sense of indigenous identity. Nobody talks about other COD games the same way because there's nothing to say. I agree that there has been better COD games since then in a way can be measured, but none have had such an impact. The IP's monetization has become more predatory whilst the improvements in the gamely only fulfilled the "expected" category, rather than the "revolutionary" status COD enjoyed in it's earlier years.
