  1. I believe them when they said that their user's personal data wasn't jeopardised because, based on the details about what was accessed, it seams unlikely that this was the target of the attack. I don't think source game code and user data would be held of the same, physical data storage. A user would need to access the user data storage through EA's user interface and login systems to make using those processes possible, so by itself it's a security risk buy holding something as valuable as game's source code on the same device(s) or enclosed network. I didn't believe them because I am willing to take thier word, I believed them because that's what actually made sense to me anyway.
  2. True, but the worst case scenario here is a publisher can send a takedown request, abandonware games takes the game in question down, that's the end of the matter. What I meant is that the website is law abiding and perfectly safe and legal for people to use. Abandonware only host games that are not supported, so that's why the companies don't bother and, honestly, unless the copyright holders do still sell the game, legal action against these kind of sites is less likely to hold up in court. If companies as insatiably greedy as EA and as insanely petty as Konami don't come after abandonware, that means the have some understanding of what is and what isn't OK. Obviously, Nintendo take the pettiness well beyond even what Konami could imagine, but we all know what they're like and will be a footnoted as the extreme in this kind of discussion.
  3. Discluding anything from games that were just dirt cheap and unfair, momentary difficulty spikes, the hardest level I ever beat was probably Cauldron Epsilon from Horizon Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds DLC. The first time I attempted it was on Ultra Hard Difficultly, but with decent gear, but it turned out there was a couple of resources I would need a lot more of than I normally carried. The frozen wilds DLC is hard enough, so much more challenging than the main game, but this final level in the DLC's enclosed main story was just everything up to 11. I don't want to go into specific detail because I'll inevitably put out some gameplay spoilers and I would rather someone go into it blind, but I will saw pack as much Chillwater, Blaze and potions as possible with as good gear and modifiers as you can get.
  4. I just though I'd take a moment to introduce the VGR community to this fantastic website Abandonware Games. They host ROMs for a large variety of older PC, Console and even Arcade games that are free to download and play. As the name suggests, they only host games that are no longer sold or supported by thier respective publishers, making what they do 100% legal. And these are quality games from big name publishers/developers Like EA, Konami, Capcom and so on. I've picked up Aladdin, Red Alert 2 and Sim City 3000 from Abandonware already, and they do work. Obviously, some of these titles will need emulators to work on modern systems, so be mindful of that before you download any of these ROMs, especially the console games. For example, I used RetroArch with it's inbuilt DosBoxPure plugin to get Aladdin to play. Free free to share what games you have picked up or want to pick up on Abandonware, and most importantly, how you got these games to work on your system to help us all out. Happy retro Indulgences everyone!
  5. EA says that no players personal info was leaked, and I believe them, so that's a relief. I am a little concerned that some of thier employees info might be vulnerable' like what happened when CDPR was hacked. Those things aside, I offer them no sympathies. EA are the victims and these hackers are criminals, but I don't really care about those facts because of how badly EA treat thier customers and staff, especially at the studios they control, and I hope this hurts.
  6. Must be a region thing. I'll turn on my VPN and try again. EDIT: Yeah, that was it. Quite funny. I really should check out Robot Chicken more often.
  7. Something hasn't quite worked here...
  8. I don't have anything against people who buy these kinds of devices, but I personally wouldn't waste my money on them. They tend to be of low quality, are cheaply made, they're designs are meant to fool buyers into think they're buy something from a legitimate manufacturer (Like Nintendo), the emulation aspect is usually very poor, especially in the sound department and the in-built ROMs from retro games are almost always obtained without proper licencing and are, thus, illegal. If I had to have one of those three, I'd probably go for the Pandora controller, that at least can be used as a controller to play legit games, but I'm sure there are better quality alternatives out there if an arcade style fighting game controller is what you want.
  9. I'm locking this thread and removing the OP's link as this is clearly a bot putting out a rather badly formatted attempt to sell security software (The link text is to a blog produced by the company selling the software, but it hyperlinks to this very thread for some reason). I ask that people not engage with these kind of posts and to report them instead.
  10. The classic forums of artistic expression are probably the easiest examples to use to explain this with. A painting or a statue has no practical purpose, purely creative. There's just vain, opulent, arbitrary things that don't do anything to help anyone. Inanimate objects that only exist to be admired, and nothing more. As soon as something has a use, it becomes something that isn't art. It's now a tool, a device, something that has a purpose beyond it's own vanity. Yes artwork can be (and some might argue needs to be) provocative. Make you think, make you feel, but that's a reaction created only by the admirer, not the object. It's not telling you to feel that way nor convince you of anything. It may have the complete opposite effect on you that the artist intended, and nobody would be able to argue. So you see, a provocation isn't something the work of art in question actually does, that's something you created yourself. Anything you do, say or even feel after admiring a work of art is still something you do on your own. It's artwork itself is still not doing anything. It has no purpose, no function, outside of it's own vanity. That's what something needs to be to be art. That's why I say a video game can't technically be a form of art because it's a challenge, a test of self. Thus, video games have purpose outside of thier own vanity. In that sense, I'd say they're more like a sport. Don't get me wrong though, just because something has a purpose and now can't be art, doesn't mean it can't be built, as least in part, with artistic merit and it can still be admired and be beautiful. Take chess, for example. A game of chess is not an art form, it's a game that tests one's strategic thinking. It's design is built not through pure creativity, but on structure, a set of rules to govern the game. That's not art, that's built to a purpose based on rules, not artistic merit. However, does chess need art to exist? Is their artistic merit in it's design? Well, one look at these chess boards and the answer is obvious; It terms of that design structure built off the rules and parameters of the game, all these chess boards are exactly the same. A game of chess is technically no different played on any of these boards, or even on a bog basic, plastic piece of shit like this. So you see, just because chess is not art, does not diminish how import art is in it's make up. Whilst the game may be technically exactly same no matter what board you play on, the creative element can enhance the experience enormously. Video games are no different. They're basic designs are structured on rules, not creativity, but the aesthetics are there, built of the creative imaginings of whoever it was that created them and can add to the experience enormously. Yes, the creative elements are more important in a video game when compared to a board game because the user interface is entirely dependant of visual design, but that's something that's built to a purpose as well as aesthetics, so it's not entirely a creative endeavour. Not to mention visual aesthetics aren't the only creative elements of a game either, there is also writing and music. So a video game is not art, but it is a test of self challenge that needs good art to reach it's full potential. I hope that clears up any confusion over my point of view.
  11. I hear you and there is logic to your statement, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It is more likely that this was just a very dumb idea that they just didn't think through. That isn't much better, though, because that would mean that they didn't care enough about the LGBTQIA+ to dedicate the time to carefully put the idea together in the first place. So yeah, another day, another colossal blunder. Welcome to the video game's industry.
  12. Actually, Skyrim and Final Fantasy have no connection to D&D which has it's own games connecting to it such as Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter. Need for Speed started out as it's own, new IP developed by EA themselves before Criterion Games, the developers of Burnout took over in 2010. So, at least modern NFS games, owe their existence to Burnout more than anything else. Devil May Cry has no connection to Castlevania. DMC was Capcom, whereas Castlevania was Komani. DMC actually started out in development as a Resident Evil game, but the developers realized that where they going and wanted to go was to far off what Resident Evil was about, so released the game as a new IP instead. So it was Resident Evil that gave birth to DMC, not Castlevania.
  13. You have my sympathys over this situation, but I fear you're seeking answers from the wrong place. This isn't a support forum for people with dept problems or issues with gambling, so the only advice we can offer is from whatever personal experiences any of us may have have, we can't offer expert help. I've found a couple of websites that might help. First there's a dept management charity Stepchange and advise on problem gambling from BeGambleAware. The first step though is don't panic, there is support available.
  14. This is as out of touch and stupid as I have ever seen. We live in a word that is less than ideal for members of the LGBTQIA+ community with so many countries, cooperations and people threatening their safety, livelihoods, rights and even thier very existence every day. However, whilst protecting thier rights and standing up for that community is something we should all do all year round, extra emphasis is put on these issues every June for Pride Month. This is the month people, politics and companies put LGBTQIA+ relatable issues more in the spotlight and celebrate queer people and the progress we have made as a society. It isn't much, but it's still a good thing and a tradition well worth maintaining. There are problems with it, though, mostly in relation to cooperations who use pride to peddle rainbow coloured nik nacks and worthless, soulless junk. Most cooperations can at least take pride (no pun intended) in the fact that they cannot possibly be worse than Warner Brothers this year because of what has to be the dumbest, most insensitive and out of touch gimmicks I have ever seen. In "celebration" of pride month, they hosted an event on thier Injustice 2 mobile game called Love Conquers All, an ironic title as you'll see in a few moments. The idea was to beat up Poison Ivy, a cannoned bisexual character, as much and as often as possible. I kid you not. As aforementioned, members of the LGBTQIA+ community face violence every day just for being who that are, so why WB thought this was a good idea is beyond comprehension. They could have hosted an event where playing as Poison Ivy offers extra themed rewards, LGBTQIA+ themed skins, anything would have been better than this. Maybe we shouldn't be that surprised as WB are happy to line the pockets of infamous transphobe JK Rowling for the Harry Potter license, or maybe this was just one incredibly dumb idea. As you could imagine, the backlash was swift and merciless, forcing WB to take down the event and apologize. Full story here; https://www.nme.com/news/gaming-news/injustice-2-mobile-dev-apologises-for-misguided-pride-event-2957814 This is actually amazing. It goes beyond belief. Before anyone says it, this is not "SJWs" trying to cancel WB or anything like that, WB fully deserved this backlash. What they should have done, but clearly didn't, is bringing in somebody from the LGBTQIA+ to consult with them on this. Let's just hope WB and other cooperations learn from this.
  15. Fuck them. They're nothing but a deliberate annoyance. OK, they're not nearly as predatory or harmful as lootboxes and microtransactions in general, but they are used as a tool to drive people to microtransactions, so they are a cog in that machine. That, however, applies to FTP games. If the game is not FTP, especially a premium AAA title, then there is no excuse whatsoever. I hate Sky TV for having adds in there programs when you have to buy the service to begin with, so fuck any game that does the same thing. Netflix doesn't do this shit nor does Amazon Prime Video. Spotify and YouTube remove ads when you pay permium, same story with game streaming services live Xbox Game Pass and PS Now. For FTP, I can tolerate it, even though it's still used as a tool to draw people into spending, and that's disgusting. However, I double dare anyone to try and defend this practice on Pay-to-Play games or game you play through a subscription.
  16. Did you even read what I said? When people stand up against bigotry they are not implying that minorities are less capable, that is ridiculous. What your saying is that l and others here speaking out against racism are, in fact, the actual racists. I'd tread carefully if I were you with such false accusations. It's not about laws either, it's about how systems of society has embedded these attitudes. It is very easy to act within the law and still blatantly discriminate. Still, examples of bigoted laws do exist and people have already posted examples, like the infamous Apartheid regime that ruled South Africa for decades. ICE in America who still keep parents and children desperate and fail to provide basic need and force detainees to live in squalor. Republicans in America are trying to pass laws with the purpose of making more difficult for minorities to vote. And since you brought it, and it was you that brought it up, not me, the rights of same sex marriages as well as adoptions get pissed on all the time. Transgender rights are all but nonexistent, even among "civilised" and "liberal" societies. I could go on, but because you're living in your bubble where none if this is real because it doesn't happen to you personally, there's no point on trying to enlighten you on this. People can (and have) provided examples and facts numerous times, but you just choose to ignore them when those facts contradict your view. However, I will ask you to not imply that I nor anyone else on these forums are racists again.
  17. @m76 What is it with you and this ridiculous theory that it's bigotry to stand up against bigotry? Standing up for a minorities rights does not imply they are less capable. What it means the system is unfair as it's systemically bigoted and doesn't offer everyone equal rights because race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation and so on. This idea you have is a way to try and turn the tables and make out that the people call-out out this bullshit into the bigots and that is ludicrous.
  18. Honestly, and with all due respect to @HolisticStorm, I'd rather live in world where this ridiculous definition didn't exist at all. And I'm not just referring to gaming. Gaming is a hobby, but it's not like all hobbies. With hobbies like fishing or golf, people who take it more seriously are warrant of some extra respect because they have useful knowledge to impart that can only come from experience. Playing video games is pure entertainment, so it just doesn't matter if you're doing for one, three, six, twelve or even more in a day, because someone who dose can't impart knowledge that will help anyone enjoy gaming any more than the already do. Not to mention how little good the "hardcore" it will do them to boast about it in the real world. I'm oversimplifying it, I know, you quite obviously can learn a hell of a lot of genuinely helpful knowledge from other gamers (otherwise forums like this would have little reason to exist), but that's in reference to stuff like tips, guides, technical troubleshooting etc. What no gamer can teach, no matter how "hardcore" they are, is how to love it more. My aforementioned examples of fishing and golf would be properly shit without knowing what your doing. At least some guidance is necessary, but in gaming how much you enjoy it is defined buy how you feel about that specific game, not gaming itself. A "movie expert" can't teach someone how to love watching movies more, if anything there more likely to ruin it, and it's the same with games. And before anyone says it, recommending games is a different thing. That's still in reference to specifics within the hobby, not advice to enjoy the hobby itself. The only time I would offer a genuine exception would be on professional gaming (e-sports), because that's a sport. Like any sport that also just happens to exist as a hobby, that is 100% competitive and being the best is all that matters. Anywhere else, the difference between "hardcore" and "casual" only exists in the insecure, self absorbed minds of the people that call themselves "hardcore". Being "hardcore" does not make anyone more, not in gaming, and anyone who thinks otherwise us no better that any arrogant little fanboy I've had the misfortune to meat over the years, a sadly frequent experience. What's the test to be a gamer? Like games. That is all.
  19. Because the people in question were manipulated and fooled. Sadly, it happens all the time. When people invest money in these kinds of things, the last thing they want to believe is that they've been conned, so they will then stand with, and even defend, any perspective that would mean they weren't conned no matter how detached from reality it is. I've seen it before with projects like Star Citizen, you wouldn't believe how far the victims of that scam will go to defend it and how deluded they appear.
  20. I downloaded the images from my Facebook account and found a lot of photo mode images, mostly from Horizon Zero Dawn, but a couple from Uncharted 4 as well that I'd forgotten about. This is as good a place as any to share them, so feel free to comment on this gallery. I'm hosting if on Imgur to avoid flooding the forum with an absurd amount of images, but I'll post a couple of my favourites.
  21. Believe it or not, "American English" is something of a trigger for me. I exercise a great deal of patience when it comes to this, but every time I see a King or a Queen addressed as "your highness" in a movie or TV show, I do want to strangle said individual with their own windpipe. And I get that feeling a lot. It's not just that either. Football is the sport where you actually use your feet, not some pussy version of Rugby. It's spelled "Carib-bean" because that's the way it's spelled, not "Crribien" and, most importantly, you don't have to say, "Ya want cheese wit' that? every time somebody askes for something to eat.
  22. You can't write jokes about this man anymore, because one cannot make up anything funnier than the man himself. I wish I could, I want to b able to, but I lack the talent to make anything up that is actually funnier than what he actually says.
