I'd like to think I'd treat everyone fairly, not crunch employees yet keep investors happy an in support of the company and make the business profitable, but I've never run a company, and saying all that is dreaming if we're being honest. I've never run a business, so I just can't say the kind of pressure it entails and there will have to be hard decisions and compromises along the way and not every is going to be pleased with the decisions you make.

Can games be downloaded on nintendo switch?
Shagger replied to DanielStone's topic in Esports & Competitive Gaming
It's the same thing on any console. Of course you need an account to buy and download games. It's also the same on PC, the only difference is that there's a number of storefronts to buy games from, but you still need an account for each one you use. -
According to what I've seen and read, Nintendo with the switch has been very desirable for indie devs. Fair commission and QC policies have led some indie devs to say they prefer the Switch to steam in the past. That's not say much though as Steam's open door policy and complete lack of quality control makes it very difficult for genuine indie devs from getting much out of the platform.

Why be "loyal" to any platform? Having a preference for whatever reason is one thing, but you don't owe a platform your loyalty.

Please don't say "master race" because that's pathetic, fanboy nonsense and by calling yourself that you akin yourself to the Nazi's. It's not funny and people who say it are masters to nothing. Also why would you buy PS5 games just to sell them to buy PC games instead (if that's what you meant)? Just buy the games on PC to begin with if that's what you really wanted to do.

I've decided to re-ignite this thread because of something I've just seen that is truly disgusting and far closer to home than I would like. On Sunday, England faced Italy in the final of the FIFA European Nations Football Championship 2021 (Euro 2021). For those who don't know, The Euro tournament is held every four years in between World Cup years where Nations present teams picked form professional players from thier own country to compete in a tournament. It's a huge deal, comparable to the World Cup itself. Normally I wouldn't be that interested, but my better half is English, so we watched the game. It was 1-1 at end of the 90 minute match, bringing the match into extra time (same thing as overtime, really), but the match remained at 1-1. In this situation, the game then comes down to a penalty shootout. Each time picks 5 player to step up and fire a shot at goal against the opponent team's chosen goal keeper. This is nerve-racking enough in any game, but the amount of pressure involved when it's the final of a major tournament like this is difficult to comprehend. England ultimately lost as they missed three of thier penalties. The three players who missed just so happened to be black. So this ware things get horrid, but sadly predictable... Just pointing it out, and I could be mistaken, but I saw what I think was all of England's players take a knee at the start of the match.

1st person perspective with a dark, claustrophobic, creepy and intimating environment. 3rd person just doesn't put you there connected with the character in same way.

What opinion about video games do you have that no one can change?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
There's no force wielded by man nor God that will convince me (With the exception of puzzle games, kid's/educational games and some forms of strategy and platformer. Multiplayer is also an obvious exception to this as well.) that a game having one difficulty setting is a good thing. People have the right to play games the way they want to, but there's more to it than that. I can't think of many games with one difficulty that were too easy, at least not recently, but the flaw with them is obvious. With the exception of interactive narratives like Life is Strange or a Tell-tale game, a game with no challenge has no reason to exist. If there's no challenge, there's no tension and the gameplay is almost completely pointless and will inevitably get boring very quickly. Games that are made to be hard with no alternant difficulty settings are no better. Take Demon's Souls, a game veteran members may know I despise. I despise it not because it's hard, but because it's cheep, but that's another rant and not the important part here. A side effect of the obsession with difficulty lead to an RPG with a dull colour palate, uninspired design, little story that was impossible to get immersed in anyway because one spent so much time repeating the gameplay. The gameplay itself was tedious and with controls that deliberately crippled the player and the game, in it's infinite arrogance, wouldn't even let you pause, all to support a completely pointless online mechanic. The game became comprised in other aspects because of how From Software obsessed with just making a game as difficult as they could and the fans let them get away with it because they did just that. The game's fans can't admit any flaws in the game or it's sister franchises in Dark Souls and Bloodborne because the game met the low bar that it set for itself. It's hard. Well done From Software, 10/10 obviously. I've been literally kicked of forums and communities that weren't "Soul's" focused just for criticizing the games. For a fanbase that takes such pride it's virility and how they are gods among gamers they really can't take criticism and far to quickly cry to moderators (I hate moderators ). Having difficulty settings that are designed for people who wish to explore the game world, design, graphic, music, narrative, basically everything else other than challenge forces game dev's to focus on those elements instead of being distracted by making a game as difficult (or indeed, as easy) as possible. The question I put forward is, what if From Software has made the game with multiple difficulty options in mind? I believe they would have spread thier focus so other areas of the game that wouldn't have been let down. Better story elements, better design, better controls, better music, better... just better. So I think you see why I believe multiple difficulty options make games better. If Demon's Solus had multiple difficulty options the challenge wouldn't have been lost. All those "Git Gut" pricks would have to do is turn the difficulty up and it would better as the game mechanics wouldn't have have so cheep and cryptic by design. My least favourite thing it does is the effect it has on people. People can get so arrogant when they master a game that the loose sight of what gaming is meant to be. Few people are better people when they get to that kind of level. They mostly just lord over others and don't offer constructive advice at all. Soul's fans are, by far, the worst. You can't look for advice on a related forum, reddit or social media on these kinds of games without encountering some extreme toxicity and it's the games own obsession with how hard it is that's the route cause. "Git Gut" has even become a traditional meme to dismiss other people seeking advice. I'm not painting every Soul's fan with the same brush here, there are just as many if not more perfectly nice and civilised people out there who play those games, but the assholes are loud and unavoidable, so that community should be avoided. -
You're spot on with this. I've talk about Abandonware on the forums before that pretty much exists to preserve unsupported games. Not all of the games on thier need to be emulated of course, but there are a lot that do, especially older games. However, just because a game is older, don't assume that it's legal to download a ROM for it. A lot of such games are still sold, so obviously downloading a ROM is likely not legal. Then there is situation where publishers and the owners of IP's don't sell them, but get petty with thier copyright. I completely understand the moral justification to download such games, but it doesn't change the fact that posting links to such ROM or websites that host them won't be permitted here. Emulation is important though, like you said. Without it many games would simply perish and be lost. So of course this topic will remain open and I encourage people to share what emulators they use. and discuss emulation in in general. Just a few parameters for me, as a mod, to set. Do; Discuss and link to your favourite emulators and post instructions for others on how to use them. Ask what emulators are recommend for the games you have. If by any chance that game has been acquired by means that may not be legal, keep that you yourself. Respect that this topic is about emulation, not piracy, so stick to the topic at hand. Feel free to discuss emulation in general without posting anything specific if you wish. Post links to legal sites to download game files, such as the aforementioned Abandonware and digital storefronts. Don't Link to illegal ROM's nor any website that hosts them, as previously stated. Link to software or post instructions with the purpose to crack or hack games to bypass DRM and other copyright security. Make promotional posts, links to forbidden websites and obviously pirate games and software in accordance with our current Rules and Guidelines. On topic. DOSbox is a great emulator I have use for emulating DOS games, but it can be difficult to use. RetroArch is similar, but with a more modern interface and i feel is easier to use with more compatibility options. That's really about all I use at the moment.

That trailer is criminal. It wholly misrepresents the king of game that this is. If it wasn't for @skyfire mentioning it, I wouldn't have known this was a card game. You wanna know what this game really looks like like? I'm not saying it's a bad game, but obviously Riot were not confident about it otherwise that trailer would have represented the game for what it is. EDIT: Also after digging a bit, I found that that rewards aren't randomised, so no lootboxes, but better cards can still be purchased with real money, so it's pay-to-win. Yeah, fuck this game.

I watch Formula 1... and that's about it. I refuse to watch my nation's favourite sport. That being Football, aka soccer. That is football. No question. I don't support football in Scotland because there's too mush bigotry. However, I need to make clear the kind of football we support, as a nation, is the version where people actually use thier feet to control the ball. Unlike the American version where people use thier arms to move around an egg, we play REAL rugby. A sport where players don't wimp out by having the players wear 40lbs of protective gear, all form a nation that takes more pride in virility than anything else.

A Blu-ray disk has a capacity of 50gb (25gb per layer). That does seem inadequate for this day in age for big AAA games, so it does make you think, why do they stick to disks? Most PS4/PS5 and X-Box console games sold on disk usually have to install much larger amounts than that of that a Blue-ray's capacity. This of often achieved with compassing the files on the disk so they only take up the full space once they're installed, but all to often one has to download massive portions of the game before it will work. Before reading your post, I would have thought the other consoles switching (no pun intended) to the memory card/cartridge like format that the Switch uses would have been ludicrous, but it may it actually be the better idea. You're not getting the math wrong, and I in fact think you may have perfectly illustrated the problem and explained so much in the process. Discs are cheep compared to Solid State Storage, even Blu-ray discs, so selling games on them are cheep, so that's really the only way to keep selling hard copies of games at the price the retail customers would buy them at. As you said, Sony own the patent for Blu-ray, so that's another reason they would want games to be sold on Blu-ray. However, nothing is cheaper to publish games than through digital distribution, and that's why game publishers push it as hard as they do. Solid State Storage is comparatively expensive, so no wonder the other console manufacturers shun it and that also goes toward explaining the cost of switch games. Thank you @The Blackangel. Whether you meant it or not, you've really opened my eyes to something.

I've been trying to find a way to watch Battlebots seasons online but I've been struggling. If there's a way that you know off I'd appreciate the help.

An interesting theory has been put out there to explain why this new Switch is lacking the the graphics power and overall computing power upgrades that people were expecting that makes tom much sense to ignore. It all ties to the pandemic and the same resulting part shortage that has affected PlayStation, Xbox and PC component manufactures. This vid ReviewTechUSA, a great gaming and tech related news YouTube channel I'd highly recommend, goes into more detail.

I remember the chatter that was on the internet around the console's reveal, including on this forum, and it was pretty clear this was going to be a very large console. Very pretty, but enormous. I'm actually surprised you missed it.

This is a topic to discuss game modding. Please try to stay on topic.

A good game to play WITH kids is Knack. I's got a co-op mode designed specifically around that idea.

Well, I know from real world experience that knowing weld theory and actually welding are very different things. Trust me, you do NOT know how weld, but I do. Truth be told, I'm not brilliant at it and will most likely be even worse now as I'm very out of practice, but the point is you can't claim you're able to do something just because you've studied the theory. Weld theory isn't even that difficult to understand anyway, so it's not a great thing to boast about. Like knowing how to weld in theory and welding in the real world are not even close to the same, you having your ego bruised and me deliberately attacking you are not same thing either. I was just giving to you straight, it's hardly my fault if you can't take criticism. Besides, I think you do need some humility. Deep down, there is at least a part of you that genuinely believes that you're better and that has cursed you with a very real problem. Whenever anything or anyone comes along with something that challenges what you believe and what you think what you know, you dismiss it. It's really crippled your ability to learn. So not only are you not as smart as you think you are, you will never be if you maintain this kind of attitude. Believe it or not, I'm actually trying to help you.
-
On topic, I wouldn't rather be amazing at any activity because, like I implied above, knowing everything is pretty much unattainable. Even if if it were attainable, I don't think I would be able to cope with the pressure of being that smart. I'd image it being a very lonely. Like, nobody would be at your level and nobody would really be able to get close to you. Having ultimate talent would at least be more social.
-
With all due respect, anyone who would claim that about themselves is not only arrogant, but also not very smart. I read your entire post and I'll believe you when you say that have a quick grasp at technical theory, but the very fact that you point out that it still takes practice and learning to master skills completely denounces that claim "you know everything". It does take learning, it does take practice and it does trying and failing multiple times times to perfect any skill or discipline. There is no master of any craft that would claim to know everything. Even if one has learned all there is to know about something, doesn't mean there isn't something new to discover. Smart people in that position are not satisfied by "knowing everything", they push the boundaries to discover something new and better. That's how science, engineering, medicine, civilisation itself advances. If humans believed we "knew everything", we'd all still be living in caves hitting animals with sticks so we could eat. You can't know everything, that's ridiculous. All you've really proven by saying that is how much you actually have left to learn.
