I would have to throw Q*Bert into this. I have loved this game since my early childhood, and love it to this day. I can't get enough of it. I even have it on my phone, so I can play it when I'm out. I highly recommend it to absolutely everyone, whether you like isometric games or not.

Every time you level up, the amount of health that is added to your total health bar is increased. How much it increases by is dictated by how high the character's current endurance is. You can grant your character much higher health in total by levelling endurance quickly and maxing it out as early as you can. You don't have to do t that way, but I find it's useful further into the game.

In Windows 10 if you go to your control panel you can choose to run older programs. It has the capability. I haven't used it much, but it hasn't let me down.

You can run just about anything compatible with Windows 7 Windows 10. In terms of the software architecture, they're very similar. If you try to run a Win7 game on Win10 and it doesn't work, you  can try running Windows Compatibility mode. Here's how.

Right click on the game launcher and select "properties" and you should see something like this (I'm using Black Desert Online as an exaple, but isn't actully necessery to do this with this game, it works on Windows 10 just fine)

    I've highlighted the "compatibility tab. Click on that and you should see this;

The compatibility troubleshooter is what it sounds like and can to detect if a program or game has a compatibility problem with Windows 10. The highlighted areas are a check box and drop down menu that allow to run a program as is the OS was an earlier version of Windows, like Windows 7. If you need to, make the selection the OS you want, hit "Apply" then try running the game again.
Some games have problems running on more modern hardware (Fallout 3 comes to mind, or my nightmares), but solutions to that are usefully indigenous to the games themselves
    Hope that helps.

No problem. Armatures are literal tanks and take a while to take down without proper weapon mods, but they shouldn't be that hard on Casual difficulty.

@Crazycrab @Shagger Thank you very much for your detailed comments on all of this. The very fact I am going to have to re-read both of your posts multiple times to grok the levelling system tells me how convoluted they made it ... I screwed up levelling in Skyrim on my first playthrough but easily figured out what went wrong and how to fix it next time. And I am now almost positive I have levelled badly so far in Oblivion.

You're in a cabin out in the wilderness for a vacation alone. You wake up and there's a dead body in your house. There's signs of a struggle, but nothing is misplaced. You can't call 911. The power is out and your phone is dead. You're snowed in. You're completely alone with this dead body, and no way out. What do you do?

I prefer the lockpicking mechanic in Skyrim but never had that much trouble in Oblivion.  In fact it seems  expert at it judging by what some people say about their struggles, one of the first things I usually do is loot the lockbox outside the Arena and that's a master lock 😁.  The mechanic is all about timing, you need to hit the button the instant the pin hits the top of the lock for each one, the harder the lock, more pins you have to secure AND the faster the pins move.

What's maybe not so obvious at first is the pins don't respond the same way or retract at the same speed every time, occasionally they will even bounce around that the top and if you try to hit the button then you're guaranteed to fail.  There is a trick to this and that's listening, there are audio clues that give you a clue as to what the pin is going to do. Here is a video that explains this better than I can with the written word:

With this knowledge and a bit of practice you should get the hang of it.  Also look around the barrels and crates in the Imperial City market as you can usually find a few lock picks there and they at least should be on sale in the general stores.

If you still can't get the hang of it there are some alternatives, Alteration magic has spells that can open locks and at level 10 you can do the quest at Nocturnal's shrine which rewards you with the Skeleton Key, which is essentially an unbreakable lockpick so you can auto attempt past your way any lock.

    Hope this helps!

@Shagger was talking about self-imposed challenges in video games, i.e. (Shagger’s example) trying to beat TLOU using nothing other than bricks and bottles. I can’t imagine trying to do that, lol. My current self-imposed challenge is to play my new Skyrim character doing nothing but destruction magic and conjuration, no weapons. It’d be a lot harder without the conjuration, but conjuration is just too fun for me to give up.
What self-imposed challenges have you taken on in video games? Which were you successful with? Were there any you gave up on? Which do you think you might try in the future?

With the exception of Uranus, I can tell you exactly where to look to see the planets with the naked eye at any time of the year. Neptune is too far to see, but all of the others are visible. Mainly due to their size with Saturn and Jupiter. But Mars and Venus are close enough to see clearly. Mercury can be tricky to find, but once you know where to look and when, it becomes second nature.

I would love a game based around astronomy. I have loved astronomy since I was a child, and a game that is based around that that is not only fun, but educational would be an instant pre-order for me. There was a PC game I played when I was younger that was called Operation Weather Disaster. It was so fun to play, that I didn't even realize that I was learning. If someone could do the same thing with astronomy, they would then become my favorite game publisher.

I'm an obsessive fan of Johnny Depp, and this movie gives his best performance ever. He plays a 16th century English nobleman, who is friends with the king, but royally (no pun intended) pisses him off constantly. It's difficult to follow and get into the first time you watch it, but it is more than worth seeing. It has John Malkovich and Samantha Morton in it as well.

    1) A competent leader that actually serves the people, and not himself/herself.
    2) A strong economy that is able to maintain a decent life for people willing and/or able to work for it.
    3) A crime scale as low as it can possibly be with able and intelligent law enforcement. We need some prison reform as well, because the system we have now just isn't working.
    4) Viable programs for those that aren't able to work due to mental and/or physical disabilities.
    5) Healthcare. Think Canada.

What does it mean? Virtually all countries would no longer exist, because they are all so far beyond broken that they just can't be fixed. Dust will not give you back the Colosseum.

StaceyPowers reacted to The Blackangel in How do you organize/store your consoles?
Let's see, consoles I'm currently playing regularly:
Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, PS1, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and GBA SP. To name the ones that run more or less daily. With me, I keep the ones That I don't have hooked up at that current moment in file cabinets and plastic storage tubs. The amount of systems and games I have all combined takes up an entire closet, shelving and floorspace. And I also have duplicate systems. I think 5 PS2's for example and 4 PS3's. Somewhere around here there is an Xbox 360, 2 Wii's, and a Game Cube. Where they're at, I have no clue. I wasn't a fan of any of the 3 so it was always my girl that played them, with a rare exception. I liked Soul Caliber II, and Mario Kart on Wii. That's about it.
When you're a cripple, you don't have a lot of options for entertainment, so you tend to have a lot of something when you find one that works. hence, my amount of gaming systems.

And interesting topic. Well thought up.

I think we will. It may not be exactly like it is on Star Trek, but I do see this being technically possible in our lifetime. What I find more interesting is how holodecks are featured culturally. Video games, whilst they have gained some serious stock and are more respected than ever as a mature pastime, aren't yet respected in the world of culture as perhaps they should be. The "holo-novels" in Star Trek, which are basically like role-playing narrative games, are a cultural expression held in no lower stature than classic novel would be today. I know that video games will be respected like that someday, but I would like to think that time is closer than how long it'll take for technology to get that advanced. They also use holodecks for training, experiments as well as recreation, and I see that in the future of gaming technology as well.

I have a few games here that I specifically use a Game Genie on every time I play them anymore. And it's not so I can make me so powerful that I can just breeze by everything. It's actually the opposite. I use codes to make my character weaker and my enemies stronger. The reason is because there are some games that, over the years, I've just gotten too good at. And while I love playing them, there's no challenge left. So I pop them in through the GG, and it's all good. My favorite games, redone with more challenge than before.

I don't find caring for a Sims needs particularly stressful, but that might be because I've played it so much. I know my sister finds that it's suddenly become stressful since she switched from PC to Playstation, which I find weird. Can it somehow be harder on console??? Anyway, it's the only game I've used cheats for, though not out of some posh idea that that's a bad thing. It depends on what people find fun. In the Sims I've sometimes used money cheats, depending on the story. The thing is, if you want to make enough money to buy a decent house, you'll never get there just by getting to the top of a fancy career. You have to either grind and grind on painting or writing or you have to, like, have a store that specializes in only selling one very expensive violin. In the real world people don't buy houses like that, they take a loan. And sometimes I don't feel like playing the story of grinding for cash, sometimes I want to focus on other aspects, like a career. So sometimes in my "stories" I decide that they happened to have a rich uncle or that they took out a loan for the house or whatever. It's not a goal oriented game, it's a story oriented game. However, it makes a difference that it's a single player game, so I'm not effecting the game of others. I figure if I was cheating to make myself super powerful in a multi-player game, where others were effected, that would make a difference! I also think that some games would get pretty boring if you cheated your way through the levels, but to each their own.
I like that in Planet Zoo, the simulation game I'm currently hooked on, there's franchise mode, where you have to make a zoo run financially, and then there's sandbox mode, where you have infinite cash and can just be creative building whatever your heart desires. I figure that's a bit like using cheats in The Sims.
