  1. Persona 5 is coming later this year to xbox and the entire yakuza franchise is avaible on xbox albeit sadly digital only, all yakuza games are on gamepass aswell but don't quote me on that.
  2. What's up @kingpotato haven't seen you around much lately, how have you been, hope all is well with you and your family? Assasin's creed 2 is still my favourite in the series if you ask me as it was the perfect sequel in many ways as in being better in everithing the first ac game was and the perfect example of how you make a sequel-> Better story, better main character, more ways to kill your target, bigger map to explore and if we are being honest historically the Italian Renaissance is one of the most beautiful times to go back to. But all praise aside while it's my favourite game in the ac series you're right it hasn't aged that well, especially control wise it's sometimes hard to make a correct jump, resulting in falling off buildings or jumping the wrong, resulting in your death in the process. But story wise it is still one of the best games in the series like the whole game is building up to this massive finale only to end with a major cliffhanger. Assassin's creed was also the franchise that put Ubisoft on the map as a major publisher before that ubisoft was sort of this company while they made good games, they were never in the true classic territory. Well when you look back at it nothing has really changed these days. Ubisoft still puts out good games and While modern ac games are good and fun to play, you probably will not remember much of them in 10 years time. I'd always compare ubisoft games with a visit to an amusement park as you look forward to it and while you play the game you'll have fun but when you are done, you forget most about it fairly quickly. Same as you @kingpotato ac 2 will always have a special place in my heart and give it a few years time and probably to no ones surprise ubisoft announces a complete remake.
  3. While it's a neat accopmplishment it doesn't say a lot, besides it's like comparing apples with oranges doesen't make a whole lot of sense. When the gamecube launched gaming wasn't as big of a deal then it is now. Nearly every household in the world has atleast one consoles in their homes now ( well maybe not in the third world countries and in older folks their homes but you know what i mean) compare that to when the gamecube was around, i mean you rarely heard of people owning more then one current gen console back then, unless it was that extremely rich kid that everyone seems to want to be friends with at the time. Hell internet wasn't really that much of a big deal even and social media had yet to be invented ah those were the days. But again i'm getting way off topic according to wikipedia's list of best selling consoles here, it's only a matter of months before the ps5 outsells the og xbox, again times are different but for a console that is barely avaible at normal retail that is pretty impressive, who knows how much Ps5 consoles would have been sold if there was enough stock to supply everybody who wants one. furthermore It's quite an interesting list as the switch is about to overtake the ps4 saleswise aswell, it even outsold the wii already, what you know you learn something new every day. Like the psp sold more untis then the 3ds, yet i never knew much people who had a psp to begin with, compared to the ds and 3ds. It's just goes to show how much more populair gaming is compared to 20 years ago like the xbox one even sold 51 million units and everybody hated that thing when it first came out, not bad for a console with "no real exclusives".
  4. I've never seen First party nintendo games that came as a "download code in a box". It's usually the smaller third party companies like nacon, thq and uig entertaiment amongst some others that do this eventough there are smaller ubisoft and warner bros titles out there as code in a box aswell , but most of these releases usually have have had a cart release in the past. You know funny this came up just now i emailed a couple of companies that started doing this a few years ago and to my surpise somebody at big ben (now nacon) and thq nordic emailed me back stating that it is done to offer the games as cheap as possible in retail stores and that it is done because they coulden't predict the demand for a game before hand, obviously telling me that most of the games had a cart release before, there was some other marketing talk in there that i can't remember but in other words it came down to we're too lazy and cheap to have do another round of cart releases and we want to make as much profit as possible.
  5. I forgot about Cattails, the developer send me a code of it on switch because i backed their kickstarter campaign. You obviously play as a cat but you can get married aswell, it may be worth checking out if you like harvest moon/story of seasons and stardew valley. I probably should play it myself first before suggesting a game but you know it's got good reviews everywhere and there is a sequel coming in the near future aswell :
  6. This thread has run it's course, don't really see a reason to lock it nor is there any reason to keep it alive any longer but we're 8 pages in and you either prefer gaming at night or you don't. There were some interesting posts and i feel like it would be a waste to not keep the conversation going so i moved some post in a new thread here
  7. I created this thread because another thread here was turning out into a glorified chit chat thread. Still the conversation deserves a change to keep going but not there as it's going way off topic and that thread has run it's course. So i'll be moving said conversation here for it to continue as it's an interesting topic i'd like to participate in aswell, always nice to remanence about the good old days. So @Kane99, @Heatman @Clasher and @Justin11 feel free to continue said conversation here and for anybody else feel free to chimp in with your favourite gaming memories when you were younger.
  8. To answer the topic title i'd say hiking works best for me to relief stress, preferable alone. Gaming may be a close second to sometimes work out your frustration but nothing comes close to hiking in the middle of nowhere for me because after a 10-15 mile hike you'll come a different person. It's like all the negative feelings make room for only positives ones after a decent hike. The vgr forums are even stress relieving imo because typing this post puts a smile on my face.
  9. I've noticed that my hair is thinning out a bit especially when i put my hair in a ponytail that it isen't as thick as it used to be but so far i don't really notice anything strange yet so it doesn't bother me just yet. I'd probably would nature let run it's course, going bald is nothing to be ashamed off and besides i've had long hair since i was 16 orso so maybe rocking the shaved head + beard look would be the next logical step in my life as it could be a sign that i finally grew up lol.
  10. Is a good old school rant at place here or not, this may take a while to write but ... Nah i'm not into digital media distribution at all, infact as a video game collector it is against everithing i stand for. Call me stubborn or whatever you want but once consoles go all out flat digital, think i'm going to retire from modern gaming all together. However since joining vgr i got stoked again on current gen hardware and started enjoying bargain hunting for modern physical games, mainly the xbox platform again. Never seen the benefit of digital either, yeah you can loose a game i can give you that. But damaging a game like a blu-ray disc if you use it the normal way it's damn near impossible to scratch up. Cartridges are usually robost things so unless you smash it on purpose you'll be fine. So it's a pretty lame to use that as excuse that digital is better then physical. We have had these discussions before and feeling like i would only repeat myself again, i won't go into the whole digital vs physical arguement of ownership again because with modern gaming it doesn't matter all that much anymore, besides your disk is nothing but a license key these days to play the game, i've had games where there is literally only 40mb on the disc and the rest is a download, so physical disk or not it's the same as a digital download imo being the only difference you get a disk and a case instead of well nothing. Nintendo first party titles and many games on switch are different in that regard as few games only require small downloads of patches, gotta give nintendo credit where it's due they seem to care that their games are as complete as possible before putting them on a cart. Offcourse can't really vouch for third party titles on switch as you know, you buy a switch for nintendo games and probably smaller indie titels aswell. But we are going way off on the subject could be a neat thread in itself , is nintendo the last true gaming company that cares about finishing their games? there is some benefit in digital media and i can see why others prefer it over physical media and you know it's your oppion, i can respect that. Not everybody has the space to store all that crap or has the desire to keep everithing around like me and you know that is fine. That would be the only benefit i can think of with going all digital and that's space. Maybe another factor where digital is better in is that many games woulden't even exist because of the likes of steam, psn, xbox store or nintendo eshop. I've had this discussion with my girlfriend last week when we were on vacation where she asked me how many videogames do you own exactly? I coulden't really say exactly but pretty sure it's well over 12k at the moment, do i need all that stuff and why do i keep buying all that stuff, it's a question i'm hoping to find an answer to sooner rather then later. I still enjoy collecting videogames and the hunt for every game for a console/handheld still appeals to me after all these years and that what matters most to me, the enjoyment i get out of it, still being stoked when i get some mail in with some new games, being able to tick some games off what seems an endless list. You could almost say it gives me satisfaction and purpose in my life lol. But i digress because in the end it doesn't really matter all that much, alsong the physical option is there, i'll support that, if somebody else doesn't, no problem. The most important aspect is playing and enjoying the videogames we buy.
  11. On the easiest difficulty Ghost of Tsushima is quite a breeze to blow trough and becomes even easier the more you play, Suckerpunch made the game so anybody who can hold a controller, can press some buttons and knows how a game works can beat it, comparable with a ubisoft game on the lowest difficulty. I managed to snag the platinum trophy in about 35 hours and that was even on the default difficulty. Can't vouch for the hardest difficulty but you know for the story and solid open world it's probably the best sony exclusive on the ps4/5. Well tied with days gone and horizon. I'd say just go for it, it doesn't really matter on what diffculty you want to play you'll have a good time with the game no matter what.
  12. Mario kart 8 deluxe only came out on switch and includes all dlc (i think), regulair mario kart 8 is wii u only. So you can't really miss between both versions. I don't know really, mario kart to me has always been more of a franchise about local co op with some friends on the couch and just have some dumb mindless fun together. Single player wise it's good for a few afternoons of fun until you've won every cup and after that you move on to something else. While i like the games nintendo should implement a decent single player story mode to play trough in the next game. Still the memories of mario kart 64 and countless hours split screen together with some friends back in the day are worth treasuring.
  13. Mass effect Andromeda would be a worthy candidate for this thread, let's put the quality of the game of the game aside and you know i enjoyed it for what it was. We never are going to get a sequel to it, there are a lot of loose ends that needs to be adressed one way or the other. Kinda hard without going into spoiler territory but what happened to the kett are they completly wiped out or not just to name one example? Also the original trilogy what happened to your crewmates same thing. Modern day assassins creed is another example with many plot holes that are mostlikely never going to be adressed one way or the other. Like in Ac rogue you get asked to become a templar near the ending do you ever become it and what happens afterwards. Same with Ac unity i can't remember much about it anymore but they completly ditched that storyline with introducing may ine ac origins. Obviously have to give shenmue a shoot out aswell, because again why not wrap things up with the third game but no we have to live in mystery and with more questions then answers for another 10 years. Even the first and second game when you look back at it were left with many plotholes that have never been adressed, sure you can call some characters in the third game but still makes you wonder even more. Kingdom Come Deliverance should be worth mentioning aswell as that game has been left with many plotholes and what if's, pretty sure we're going to get a sequel to it but yeah what happens to your dads murderer and sword, the village you are bailiff off and offcourse your girlfriend. Things i'd like to see adressed in a future game. Many telltale games could also be considered for this thread, just take a look at the Game of thrones game they made, if you played that game you'll know what i mean offcourse.
  14. What makes you feel like a franchise like Wolfenstein and Mortal kombat have outstayed their welcome? Wolfenstein are still some of the most fun and story driven single player fps out there. In a genre that is dominated by multiplayer games i'd say wolfenstein is a breath of fresh air. Mortal Kombat is a franchise i don't know but dare i say it has overtaken street fighter in terms of quality and content. Mortal kombat is more fun to play then ever imo. We have gotten like 3 really good games in the past 11 years, you can hardly say Warner bros is milking the franchise dry or for the matter i've never heard anybody mentioning Mortal kombat needs to die alltogether. Sure during the ps2 area i'd say the franchise was at an all time low and probably should have died then but as it stands today give me more blood and gore lol.
  15. The thing with Nintendo is that they always tend to be able to keep their franchises fresh, it's just imo the Mario sports games are just lacking in that departement as in they nintendo doesen't really know what to do with them anymore. Like who on earth is actually exited about the newly released mario strikers on switch, why not include a bunch of other sports in there aswell. Yeah i get those games and since you mentioned mario party may aswell chuck it in alongside are designed for local or online multiplayer, it's just not for me anymore maybe i've outgrown these games i don't know. Being slightly over halfway in my thirties i'd rather have a few drinks and catch up on life with the few people i can still call friends, instead of forcing them to play a videogame with me. Never had much of a problem with Mario kart to be honest. Mario kart 8 was released 8 years old, if people still enjoy playing it and apperently it's still a game that sells very well even to this day, it can only mean one thing that it's still extremely good even today. Not that much of a mario kart guy myself but they are good games imo but are nothing more then a couple of afternoons of fun and when you played trough every cup, you move on to something else. Also about the Mario main line games, nintendo keeps reinventing themselves over and over with their Mario games (well maybe not the 2d mario games) but well enough to keep them fresh and exiting. Super Mario Odysey is easly one the top 5 best games on switch avaible. Yeah it's hard to say mario outstayed his welcome just for the love of god give him a break and don't let him do any sports anymore for a while.
  16. Gameplay wise i'd say the whole turn based battle system had to grow on me , when i played my first jrpg i had no idea what the hell i was supposed to do, meanly due to the language barrier but overtime as my english got better and i became a little older i started getting more and more into jrpg's. (Overly long) tutorials also grew on me, sure some can be annoying but they are there to teach the basics of the game and explain the controls. Especially now that we don't get manuals with our physical games anymore i'd say i've started to appreciate them more and more.
  17. I'm not 100% sure what you exactly mean by your questions, are you talking about games that ended with a cliffhanger or/and games that ended and left you with more questions then answers? please elaborate @StaceyPowers
  18. Currently fairly close to hitting 150k gamerscore myself, but the hunt and motivation went away for achievements as soon i hit 100k a few years back. If i diden't have to change gamertags because my girlfriend at the time paid for xbox live so i let her keep the id we both shared after we broke up, i'd probably have way more then that but eh it's just a number to me these days. It's so easy to boost your score if you're down with playing shit game after shit game these days that it doesen't even feel like an accomplishment anymore. Microsoft and sony really need to start thinking about overhauling their achievement and throphy system alltogether. There are two that always stuck with and that is in a game called Bullet witch where you would get 1 gamerscore for beating the game on hell mode which would unlock after you beat the game, by then you pretty much had every other achievement bar that 1 gamerscore, always tought that was a funny one. The other being in lollipop chainsaw where you had to try and look under the skirt of juliet if successfull you would unlock 5 gamerscore. Usually the best achievements are where you have to go out of your way to do something weird or achievements that encourage you to play in different styles that the gameplay has to offer.
  19. I don't know but i'd rather go out for a walk or go to a restaurant together but first i'd like to get to know the person in question a little better if possible online wheter they are something for me or not and share somewhat similair interests you also avoid a lot of potential disappointment not for yourself but also the other person involved. Like i know it's narrowminded of me to say but somebody who smokes or is vegan or has 3 kids already would likely not work very well in my case and i'd probably pass on them as potential dating material.
  20. From nostalgia my favourite would be the first sonic game but the game gear or master system version. It doesen't have the same bells and whistles as the mega drive version but damn they did an incredible job with these ports and they still hold up very well to this day. Infact all the master system and game gear sonic games are classics imo (well not sonic drift but that is a spin off). Offcourse the Mega drive version is the version to play but i only played that one years later. I feel like sonic colours not the wii or recent remaster but the ds version is often overlooked and imo can stand it's own against the hey days when sonic was still relevant as it's classic Sonic goodness at it's finest.
  21. Tetris and Puyo Puyo or the two combined would be my number one pick, because just when you are on a roll things are about to get frustrating and at some point in the game when you have to battle someone. You have to be either extremely good or have all the luck in the world. Also rhythm games can frustrate me to no end, which i always was under the impression that rhythm games should be a relaxing experience. Maybe the whole management game genre would not be out of this place in this thread either, just when you think you are finally doing well. Things are about to take a turn and go south which makes them also quite frustrating imo.
  22. Let's add Mario sports games into the mix aswell, since these are just a repeat and quite frankly a shell of their former selves, Mario golf and tennis were cool on the n64, gamecube and maybe the wii but these days on switch you are expecting a little more especially single player wise these games seem to have come to a stop. I Haven't played the new released Mario strikers but i bet it's not going to top the one on the gamecube. I know things with mario on it are going to sell like hot cakes but why pay full price for a arcade sports title when you can have Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 which is a much better and cheaper alternative then any of the mario sports stuff that i've played in the past 10 years orso. No imo the Mario sports titles have lost it's magic a long time ago.
  23. After reading the topic title again i just gotta mention some games where you play as an animal, probably the most funny one would be Untitled Goose Game man causing havoc with an out of controle goose never get's old. I already mentioned Endling : extinction is forever but have yet to play it myself but from reviews it's supposed to be good. Another one that could be off possible interest is the Good Life set in a small english village where you can morph into a cat or dog, haven't played much myself yet but from what i've played looks to be promising to say the least. It's made by Swery65 the main man behind Deadly premonition so it can't possible be bad now can it. I backed the kickstarter for this. Also we just gotta mention Tokyo jungle released on the ps3, goddamn one of the weirdest survival games you'll ever going to play, if you find the time looks up some gamplay footage and you'll know what i'm talking about. Don't know if you can still buy it from the ps store but if not it also got released physical on psn compilation disc.
  24. Seems like i'm late to the party as chrono cross, radiant historia and zelda ocarina of time have already been mentioned. But where is Earthbound, anybody? Couple of others i can think are the steins gate visual novels, Steins; gate elite got an english release but there are a couple othere out there atleast on the japanese 360 no idea if those got an english release or not but probably not since i never heard of it. Probably the best game that can possible be mentioned here that you probably never heard of that includes time travel is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim you go as far as the 2105. It's a really good game well worthy of your time, it's made by vanillaware so you know it's going to be good. It got released recently on switch aswell which may be the best platform to play it on. Obviously Back to the future : the game by Telltale would be a no brainer aswell and what about the socalled blockbuster Xbox one exclusive Quantum break which time seems to have forgotten. Also let's not forget that Dishonored 2 had a bloody brilliant time travel mechanic in the Stilton Manor level where you pick up a device that takes you back 3 years in time, you can use it to your advantage to kill enemiers are avoid them all together. Also feels like we should give Titanfall 2 and it's exellent campaign a shout out, where you can warp between times in certain levels to position yourself or reach a certain platfomr, been a while since i've played it but as far as my oppinion counts Titanfall 2 has one of the best single player campaings in any fps. Couple of older titles titles that are worth mentioning would be the Prince of persia reboot by ubisoft in the mid 2000's well until the first ac game came out where you had the Dagger of time that you could use to your advantage. Who remembers microsoft attempt back in the day at creating an official mascot with the duo of Blinx: the time sweeper games. A last one i feel like mentioning that includes time travel that i personally have found memories off is Shadow of Memories by konami, i played the game back in the day and was really blown away by it, it probably got me exited because the reviewer mentioned the game was a darker version of shenmue and that probably got me sold on the game, not sure that would work in todays world tough. It also got a release on psp years later, while i own it like so much other games never got around to it.
  25. I doubt it's even feasible due to several licensing issues and companies going bust over time and who owns what license to what game. It would be a pain in the ass to make it even work and get something decent on the system. Take something like tony hawk pro skater 3 imo would be a must to put onto a ps2 classic, the only problem is Microsoft owns the tony hawk franchise now, needless to say you also have the licensed music to deal with. Gran turismo a staple sony franchises also not going to work to put on there for the very same reasons. Needless to say a lot of the good ps2 games like jak and daxter, metal gear solid, sly cooper and ico and shadow of the collusus and rachet & clank just to name a few have had Hd collections on ps3. Like are you going to put the ps2 versions on a ps2 classic or the hd versions? It would be much easier for sony to just re-release these collections on ps5 like slab them on a disc again and sell them for 30-40 bucks and you no doubt have a winner on your hand (again). If i had to choose woulden't mind having the hd versions of both dark cloud games on one disc come on sony make it happen.
