Great thread when i first tought about it hell i'll just grab my rarest game or console while i probably don't want to fork out the money to buy them again they can be replaced if i wanted.
Obviously i should go for something i can't replace, I always tought it was ugly as fuck but i've come to appreciate it more and more over the years this print used to belong to one of my best childhood friends who passed away from leukemia, i think it's been 9 years now. He used to be really into Pushead artwork and this print was one of his prized possesions, two weeks before he passed away he gave me this to remember him by, the cool thing about it that i never knew that he hid a farewell letter inside the back of the frame where he thanked me for being such a good friend and whatnot, i only found out about the letter a couple of years ago.
Anyway sorry if it's nsfw, you know you should be working instead of browsing the internet.

It's still useless because digital games are tied to your online account, unless you would be okay to have a complete stranger have access to your online account they can't do jack shit with the digital games installed on a console.

Hmm unless you use it as frisbee or simulair actions and use your disc the normal way like a normal human being, it's damn near impossible to scratch up a blu-ray disc. Also i never understood how people can be so careless with their belongings like how can a disc be scratched up so badly while all you have to do is keep it inside the case and it's will be fine for years to come.

My two cents for what it's worth, stop making these vague one sentence posts that make zero sense and start putting some tought into your posts by making your point clear so people know what you mean exactly if you don't like being quoted.
I'll agree with what @Aniekwe said above, to me messageboards are intended for discussion, what are you even doing here if you don't want to have a discussion with other like minded people.
And no this is not generic reply, mearly some good advice either you can take it or leave it.

@Shaggeryou may be beating a dead horse but I'm glad this is being brought back up because if i'm being honest i was about ready to call it a day and log out and i don't know if/when i would come back. Being chosen member of the month of may 2022 made me stick around and the fact i've been nominated 3 times in the last 4 months made me feel like people appreciate me here for who i am and what i stand for and offcourse There are some genuinely awesome people here including yourself offcourse that i love to have a juicy discussion with because that is what a messageboard is for imo.
But the past few weeks it's damn near impossible to keep up with board to read everithing and let alone reply to something that interest me, it's kind of discouraging whenever i see the latest posts of the general gaming section are made by one person. I don't know if a chat function will change anything about this behaviour because we already have the general chat section for that but who am i to talk. A max post amount a day would be better imo but like i said who am i to judge.

I've never done late shifts in my life so i woulden't have a clue how it is, i think it would be nicer to do then working nights coming home late and start gaming when everybody is asleep, but then again i'm so used to working in the night and sleeping during day time, it's always hard to adjust especially the first few days when i take 3 weeks off during the summer from work.
I've also noticed with getting older i just need more sleep then when i was in my early 20 ies i slept for 4-5 hours a day and that was fine, nowadays i would feel like a wreck if i slept that little lol.

I'm putting this here because everyone needs to read this and this discussion needs to be reignited. This is about the recent conduct of one of our newer members @Jasmin and how it has lead to this post here.

After making a comment like that, I was not going to allow @Jasmin continue to post on VGR without rescinding that comment and promising to put effort into her content on VGR. At the time of me typing this, she had not done so, but will update if she does. As most of you are aware, we have had trouble in recent weeks and months with people posting just up the count with little to no care over the quality, forethought and purpose of what they post, just putting up anything at all so long as it's a post. That's why this very thread exists. This behaviour has been going on for some time with many of our members and we have been trying to discourage it on VGR with mixed levels of success. Clearly, there is still work to be done.

@Jasmin's attitude with regard to what is expected of people as part of this community and contributing to this forum is obviously wrong, but in her deference, I do not believe she is 100% at fault. The habits of too many people on VGR who post farm is what gave this person the impression that this how we're supposed do it on VGR. @Head_Hunter, @Heatman, @Justin11 and others, this is the fruit of your labour. It's your continued insistence on posting like this despite serval efforts on my part to make it clear posting in these spurts of posts in the dozens with 2-3 minute gaps between posts is harmful to the forum. Not only is it a bad example and a bad impression, but these post end up generic, soulless, badly written and virtually pointless and that's if there're on topic at all. These posts also tend to be made in the wake of little to no effort to actually read threads accurately, which not only leads to inaccurate replies, but is also very unfair to other members who actually put effort into what they post. The bare minimum VGR members deserve is to have thier posts read and understood before someone replies to them. EVERONE deserves at least that on VGR.

But because of long term members who continue to post in this unhelpful manner, this is what newcomers to the forum like @Jasmin think they are supposed to do, that this is what is expected. I'd say @Dannyjax, @Aniekwe and @Clasher, like @Jasmin are also newcomers to the forum who are also starting to follow the same path and this is very worrying. Trust me, this is not what we want.

    This has to stop, now.

I'd recommending once again that @DC alter the way points are offered to not reward this behaviour, but what we really need is people to go back through this thread, read what people are saying, take the advice on board and post like you care, unlike @Jasmin.

And if you're reading this @Jasmin, I asked only the same of you. All I really wanted you to do is understand your perception of what people are expected to do is wrong. Still, it's you choice to come back or not, but if you do I want to see a new attitude.

For the improvement of discourse in games because it encourages people reading and quoting the article? Absolutely. To draw in clicks? Absolutely not. It only takes one outlet to stick with scores to suck up all those eyeballs. I compare it to nuclear warhead disarmament: everyone agrees it's a good idea, but it requires everyone do it or else it makes you vulnerable. And who wants to be the first to sacrifice their readership?
Ha, my thoughts exactly. 1-100 or decimal point scores do nothing for me. I spoke to my editor about my review criteria upon joining the paper, and my scoring is as follows:
A technically bad game I didn't enjoy. A technically bad game I did enjoy / a technically good game I didn't enjoy. A technically good game I did enjoy / a technically bad game I greatly enjoyed. A technically good game I greatly enjoyed. God Tier. Since becoming 'pro' I've yet to assign a game a 5/5. It's clear, concise and it's easy enough to be consistent by. Plus my scores needn't be published: they're just as useful as an internal guide for my editor and I to discuss what I've written. It's not perfect, but it's the best system that takcles what Jim Stephanie Sterling called "hate out of ten" I've seen so far that isn't just getting rid of scores.
See above with my system. Had I reviewed it at the time I would've given God of War (2018) a 2 with my system. That's still a good score because even though I couldn't stand playing it, I can't deny that it looks, sounds and plays well. The content of the review would only reflect that score being justified.
I would choose not to review a sports game, but then I'm in a position where I that's an option. If I did review a sports game I'd take the piss, turning it into an attempt at a comedic piece.
But let's say I have no choice but can use my system, I'd only be able to rate it a one or a two: either I enjoyed it or I didn't, because it's not going to be technically competent. Not for the kind of money they save recycling assets.
I could easily do a retrospective on the Fallout series. I'm really into tabletop roleplaying games so I could go into how it was originally going to be a Generic Universal RolePlaying System (GURPS) engine video game, and how its creator Steve Jackson denied the rights because of the gratuitous violence featured and didn't want that associated with his brand. If I had to cover the history of the genres though, I'd be fine talking about how the games used to be Computer Roleplaying Games (CRPGs), and the backlash Bethesda received for turning them into first-person shooters (FPS). That's definitely a bit of history worth looking into.
But my ideas don't really mean diddly squat until I sit down with a medium salted caramel & cream frappé, a notepad and a pen, and write. Once I zone out and let the hand do the work, there's no telling what will happen.
Ah, interesting! If you recommend any particular titles I'd love to hear them (maybe not on this thread as it may derail things).
I made a fatal error earlier dubbing it a fan project: it is, but it also contains excerpts from journalists and game devs. Dear me. So a bad example, my apologies for not doing the investigative journalistic leap of using Google to verify things before posting! 😅
It's my understanding Ready Player One is the sequel to Blood, Sweat and Pixels. Might be worth checking out if you like the former, but don't quote me on that.

He probably had zero clue what he was talking about but justin11 is right. The purple discs that a lot of the earlier ps2 games came on were cd-roms, sony ditched the format for the dvd rom format pretty early on as a couple of models have problems reading the purple discs so that may be the reason, from experience whenever i booted up a purple disc my ps2 would make a lot of noise, i've heard some slim models don't read them at all.
Their was an official hard drive released for the ps2 , i have one somewhere but never used it so i can't really say much about it.
Then their is also this funky ps2/digital recorder hybrid with a 250gb hdd called the Psx only released in japan. Quite an interesting piece of playstation history if you ask me. The only problem is finding a working one is a challenge these days.

But damn to stay on topic how long can you get a thread going about cleaning your consoles it's already at 9 fucking pages. Guess i'll just say how i do it then, the consoles i have hooked up i dust off once a week and that is more then enough imo, all my retro games are either in special box protectors or resealable dvd/blu-ray baggies to prevent wear and tear plus they are so much easier to dust off. All my consoles i don't use are in their original boxes, stashed away in various closets away mostly.

An underrated game to me is a game that was well received by "critics" at it's time of release but sold poorly and has gathered a cult following over the years. A perfect example of this would Beyond good and evil, a game that has received a cult status over the years.
I think It's too early to call a game that is barely over a year old an underrated game, but i'll agree with that it's quite likely a game like ghostrunner will gather a cult following in years to come. I've yet to buy it but i will pick up a copy as soon as i find a physical copy of it, you know i may just do that right now.
Also when I read @Withywarlock exellent criteria for an underrated game a more recent example would be mad max the videogame, it got mixed reviews but everybody who played the game doesen't have a bad word to say about the game. Which would be my top pick for underrated game of the eight generation of consoles.

Everyone has items that mean the world to them. We all have that item, big or small. Why does it mean so much to you? For me it’s my stuff rabbit. I named him Sleepy Bunny. He means so much to me because I’ve had him since I was a baby. He’s the only one that I have ever been able to rely on, with the exception of my grandmother.
If you can (and are willing) post a pic of your priceless possession.
And only one item, not a collection or multiple items. I’m asking for the ONE item that means more to you than anything.

My problem with the discussion of 'underrated' is that people can't agree on what it means. Take Ghostrunner for instance: Metacritic has collated reviews between 76% to 81% on four systems; Opencritic says 81% (76% for its DLC, Project_Hel); it has Very Positive reviews on Steam (its DLC has reviews as low as 'Positive'.) I don't see how this game begins to qualify to be underrated. It's not an unknown entity, it had an animated store advert on Steam's front page (what more could a PC release ask for?), and made headlines upon its reveal and release.
A game I'd nominate as being less-than-adequately rated is Warhammer: Mark of Chaos/Battle March, one of last pushes for console real-time strategy (RTS) games. Fantasy Warhammer with 2 or 3 armies depending on if you played MoC or BM, with great controls, tone, story, voice acting, script, and even some features that Total War could learn from (like embedding a leader into a unit). Given this was the precursor to Total War: Warhammer, I think it deserves a lot more credit retrospectively than it had at the time, but then we can only review games for what they are, not what they will be. I've measured the reviews of the game (55-65% on Metacritic) and find them wanting, as they have few specific complaints or ones that simply don't stand up to taking the time to learn (which the games give you plenty of.)

i'll just list some recent ones i can think of  :
Project Cars 3 -> Went from a semi sim racing game to a more arcade style racing game.
Yakuza like a dragon -> Went to full turn based rpg route instead of the usual beat em up style gameplay.
Witcher series -> Went full open world with the third installement instead of the more semi linear style from the previous 2 entries.
Assasins creed Odyssey/origins/valhalla -> Went from a "stealth" experience to a full blown action rpg.
Grand theft auto 3 -> Ditched the top down view of the first 2 games and it's spin off  for an full 3d open world
Fallout series -> Went from top down turn based rpg to 3d first person rpg
Zelda series -> Name whatever game you want here, especially the first and second game are a good example how different they are
Starfox Adventures -> Pretty much had nothing to do with the on rail shooter that was the first game.
Resident Evil -> Where do you even begin with this one, after the third game each game feels like it could be a new ip.
Banjo and Kazooie nuts and bolds -> I like this game but it's a car creation game instead of a platformer.
Metroid Prime -> yeah this needs not explination
I'm sure i could list atleast 15 more but i'll leave that up to others. There's a ton of obscure franchises i can think off like front mission went from tactical strategy rpg to a full blown action game with mixed results.

Arcade racers were pretty much dead in 2008 when you look at similair games at the time like Split/second velocity and blur they all have one thing in common that they were exellent arcade racers but they also flopped salewise, so you can't fault Ea from trying something new i guess. While i don't hate that game as much as you do and had some fun with it, it was clear in 2008 the burnout formula had overstayed their welcome as was need for speed btw should have killed off that franchise when they were at it. My favourite will always be Burnout legends on the psp, don't know why Ea never bothered to port it to modern hardware.
The same could be said about the Ridge racer franchise, Namco pretty much killed it with releasing Ridge Racer Unbounded in 2012 a game that had nothing to do with the original ridge racer concept, quite the same as burnout paradise. But Man if i had to choose i'd much rather see a new ridge racer going back to it's roots then a new burnout.
The only long arcade racer franchise i can think off that still is going strong is need for speed, eventough it has been struggling for an own identity for years. Sometimes i'm wondering why Ea still bothers with need for speed, the whole you vs the cops it's been there done that i guess. Well maybe they should reboot the Burnout franchise for a change! Put a different studio on it with people who were fans of the first games.
Also outrun 2 (2006 coast to coast) -> best arcade racer ever, come on sega port it to current gen hardware already 🙂

I'm going to have to disagree with this my man, modern games now are cheaper then ever if you are willing to wait and keep an eye out for bargains every once in a while you're bound to profit from it and save a lot of money, for example i picked up halo infinite for 22 euros last week and that is a game like what 6 months old and that is even for a physical copy.
In the mid 90 ies i remember my parents paying about 85 euros for super street fighter 2 for the sega megadrive/genesis, Virtua racing was over 100+ more like 125 euros because the cartridge contained a special chip which my parents also gave me because i got good grades, offcourse the euro diden't exist back then it was in frank but damn cartridge games were pretty damn expensive in that time period. Considering how many good modern games you can get for about 100 bucks compared to the sega megadrive/genesis and snes period so yeah i'd say as a gamer we never got it as good.
