I always feel like people use overhyped and overrated as a synonym of “it’s popular and/or well loved and I hate it.” They always talk about how much they hate it.
People are always so baffled when I say I enjoy something and call it overrated. Like somehow you can’t have the two.

There are definitely quite a few games that don’t have a 3D feature, but I’m sure most of those came out after the 2DS.

I would say something like an RTS would be much better to play with a keyboard and mouse. Though that has more to do with the nature of how those games play as opposed to anything skill related.
In regards to keyboard and mouse making you better at FPS games, I noticed it was primarily the low tier competitive players bragging the most about what equipment they have that makes them superior to the filthy casuals. They get super salty when you beat them with “inferior” equipment because they believe owning that stuff makes you a better gamer.
You gotta buy a mechanical keyboard because it gives you milliseconds of an advantage, and it has to be a PS2 mechanical keyboard, because those don’t have key rollover like a USB keyboard. So buy a motherboard that has PS2 inputs.
    Oh, sorry, I just beat you with a cheap $20 off-brand 360 controller…

I’m speaking on this as an outsider, but there have been several instances where these terms were always offensive to the original demographic, but at the time they were considered buzzkills (or worse) for bringing it up, and subsequently got blown off. It just took time for someone to come into a position of power to say something about it.
10+ years ago for me, it was totally acceptable to call people variations of the word fag, and anything lame was called gay. People complained about it back then, but they were few and far between, and if they did, they were blown off, killing our fun.

It could be attributed to the lack of economic/political stability in large parts of the continent. There’s  also the issue of modern day infrastructure, for things like roads, electricity, and internet. Some places you’ll only be able to sell your product in the major city(s), but you’d have difficulty transporting the goods to other parts of the country due to poor roads, or warlords, or those other towns don’t have internet or even electricity.

If it’s a port or HD remaster, I find it pretty shady. If it’s a full on remake, I’ll gladly pay full price.

    I have two:
People who flip flop their opinions from one polar opposite to the other in a short amount of time. The reason why this annoys me is because they usually make it a big deal and everyone should know whatever they’re talking about is trash. Then a week or two later they have to announce to everyone that it is now the greatest thing ever. It’s also not unusual for them to revert back to hating it.
    1 make up your mind
2 stop being over dramatic about it

My second one is when you recommend something to someone, and they aren’t interested, but if someone else recommends it, now they’re interested and sometimes become obsessed. It annoys me to no end when sometimes that person recommends it to you like you’ve never heard of it before.

Unless it’s work related, I only really call my family on the phone. For texts, it’s only things I don’t need an immediate answer for.
At work, I either call them, or walk over to them if I need to talk, as it’s usually something I want an immediate answer for. Email and Microsoft Teams doesn’t cut it a lot of the time.

My vote is for one of our newer members @Grungie. Not gonna lie, it's unlikely that you'll agree with everything he has to say, but with the amount of thought for quality and foresight and the amount of himself he puts into what he posts, that warrants respect. So despite a couple of rough moments in these early stages, I'm glad to see him here.

It's hard to explain, but I felt like this forum needed you @Grungie, so welcome.

I have a 4th gen iPad Air and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. I have a mixed reception on Android tablets because of the poor app optimization. The tablets are now trying to emphasize you using it in landscape mode, along with a keyboard and mouse, but the vast majority of apps just work in portrait mode. A lot of the apps also don't scale correctly, so it's like the early iPad days where the apps were just blown up phone apps.

It varies, you’d have to research the individual game itself

After working in IT, I realized a lot of PC gamers aren’t really that knowledgeable in computers, but act like they’re computer geniuses. They’re pretty clueless on computer stuff outside of gaming, because they tend to hunk that if something isn’t catered to gaming, it’s useless.

Grungie got a reaction from Withywarlock in Why are game journslists bad at games?
It depends on the length of the game and the type of game. My one day example is probably too short of a time frame for some games, but then you also have to think that reviewers also have to play multiple games over the course of a month, as opposed to a normal consumer who probably only buys like one or two.
Shallow seems like a harsh word to use for the situation, because I personally don’t think you need to master or 100% a game to be able to write a review for it. I’m sure we all have games that we enjoyed that we didn’t fully complete, and some that we didn’t beat.
Sure it seems more “authentic” to review a game when you 100% completed the game, but a lot of the time, you can play a certain amount of the game to get an idea of how it plays, and the general quality of it. Once you figure out the formula of how it plays, you can still come up with a score for it.
Do you need to beat a game to say “yeah, this isn’t for me” or “I don’t like this game”? Or even to say you enjoyed it?

On one hand, if the developer doesn't care about updating the game after X many years to keep up with the new hardware that gets released, why should I care?
On the other hand, if it's an app that isn't supported for the new iOS releases, it just clogs up space of apps that do work.

I’d call that overlooked and not underrated. If something has critical praise, it’s not being rated low, regardless of its lack of mainstream popularity. Underrated would be something that got middling or poor reception, but you thought it was really good. Or the fandom of a franchise really hates that entry, but you really like it.

“The only motivation option there is money” makes it sound sleazy. Tbh, you have to play the game to review, not beat and master, and there’s usually a time frame where you have to report back.
If I gave you a game and told you to report back tomorrow to write up the review, what do you think is more important to focus on? Mastering the game, or playing enough to capture enough data to write up the review?
I’m also pretty sure if you’re a professional reviewer, you have a schedule that involves a list of games to review, and this is going to be a regular thing, so your gaming time is focusing on doing it for work.
I think people need to think about the logistics of this, as the way a reviewer has to consume the same media vastly differs from the regular consumer.
