I took the test and sent it off yesterday afternoon, so I'm thinking today or tomorrow. I'll get the results.

What do you miss most about your early days of gaming?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
To be fair, that is more akin to cheating rather than modding, so you can't exactly blame game dev's/publishers for clamping down on that sort of thing. -
........ Will this help? Maybe thicken things up a little?
-
I honestly don't see any reason why the PS4 mods wouldn't work on the PS5 version of the game as I'm fairly certain they're exactly the same game, but as @Empire pointed modding on the PS4 version of the game is limited compared to Xbox and even more so compared to PC.

What game do you like watching (not playing) the most?
Shagger replied to StaceyPowers's topic in Gaming Forum
I'm not one to watch other people play games very often. I only really watch lets plays and stuff of games with emotional narratives (after I've played said game myself) to gauge other people reactions and thoughts on the experience. Even then to keep my attention it also has much to do with the person playing. They need to have a personality that makes them entertaining to watch. -
TopSilver here. New to VGR and excited to be here

Welcome to VGR. -
Sorry, maybe I overdid it on the nerd speak. Anything I can to make it a little easier?

@m76 So let me get this straight. Black communities have more criminals in them, things were better before the civil rights movement for black people because there's more black single parent families now than before the civil rights movement (that's likely true pretty much everywhere in the developed world regardless of race, but whatever), campaigners for equal rights are comparable to the Nazis and pointing out the alarming statistics surrounding how black people are handled by the law in the US "distracts from the real issue" that black people are more poor, and they're poor because "bad luck". I don't think I have anything left to say.
-
@m76 People have presented examples of institutionalised racism, systemic racism and examples of how people are not offered opportunities or judged more harshly based upon race, gender , gender identity, sexual orientation ect on numerous occasions on these forums and you never acknowledge them, so would I waste my time doing so again just for you to just say "that's fake" or whatever? I refuse. Look back over the social/political discussions on the forum, you'll find all the same examples you already ignored. Failing the forum, there's always the internet. Either way, I'm going through the effort just for you to ignore it and not even bother to read then or twist them round. Hate to break it to you, but you're not worth the effort. Still, it's nice to know you "100% agree" that people should only be taught the US is not a fundamentally racists country even though racism has been a constant part of thier history and even founding. Yeah, let white people say it didn't happen untill that means it didn't happen and we learn nothing. People didn't have to fight to put an end to slavery, people didn't have to fight for civil rights, that was all just made up.

I'm playing the Special Edition Version of Skyrim on PC, so the mods I'm linking to are the mods compatible with that version of the game. Most important and the first mod anyone should install is the Skyrim Script Extender. It's a mod that creates an alternate executable file for the game that gives the player, as well as external files and applications, access to Console Commands and script editing. Most mods other than the simplest mods on PC need this to work. To install, select the appropriate file form the link I gave you, and download the file. Next move the file to your Skyrim folder on you PC (usually found under Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common, I would show a screenshot, but my Skyrim folder is installed in a different location to the default) then using an archive access app, such as 7-Zip, extract the folder into your Skyrim folder. Once that's done, your Skyrim folder should look something like this; As the cursors tell you, you now have a different .exe file to use to start the game. In that screenshot there is also a shortcut I created to that file that I eventfully copied to my desktop, a good thing to do to ensure so you don't get the Script Extender executable file mixed up with the standard one. The next thing you need to do is download the Vortex Mod Manager and create an account to start using nexus mods. The process is fairly straight forward and there's plenty of tips and videos online to help tech yourself how to use VMM, but I'll obviously help out as best I can if you need help with a specific problem. We (The VGR community) will obviously be try to assist yourself and anyone else as best we can with trying to install mods, so feel free to ask any and all questions you have. There are no stupid questions nor problem too small. Now onto the question you asked about the images. The first image is of a player home mod called Sjel Blad Castle and it's pretty self explanatory, It's a massive, beautiful fully equiped and furnished player home complete with followers, displays and convenience features such as a teleport system to help you move around the place and an auto-sort system for you inventory. The others are just an illustration of some of the enhanced visuals mods I've installed. They basically replace some of the textures and effects that are in the game with other textures and effects created by other people other than the game dev's. A mixture of Realistic Lighting, Realistic Water, This Cites overhaul, This OTHER Cities overhaul, 3D Trees and Plants, Trees in Cities and a Flora Overhaul. They may be more at work than just those, but those are some of the good ones. I've installed other mods to improve the gameplay and immersion such as Rich Merchants so one doesn't have to wonder to town after town to sell of swag, a First Person Perspective overhaul that has the actions as they are in third person mode display in first person (This mod is great, but it does take some getting used to as by default the primary weapon is on the left with secondary on the right, but while dual wielding as I like to do, the weapons look like they've swapped around) mods that add Better NPC AI, Better Follower AI, more Jewellery, Weapons and Armour options to the game. There's other things like new followers, questlines, character creation mods and alternate face/body textures, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, I think I may have offered enough for now. Like i said previously, please ask if there's something you want to know

Congratulations buddy.

Congratulations! Hope it brings you much joy!

@StaceyPowers. I saw the other post you made concerning mossing the Playstation version of Skyrim. Sadly, modding on the PS4 version is limited compared to PC and even Xbox, but I found this article to help you get started. https://www.thegamer.com/skyrim-best-ps4-mods/

What do you want done with your body when you die?
Shagger replied to The Blackangel's topic in General Chat
Remove anything useful from my corpse the dispose of what's left in the cheapest, most efficient and unceremonious way possible. -
Weather is one the most natural things that there is, so I'm having difficulty understanding why that would be considered an unnatural circumstance. Life on earth has been dealing with the weather since life on this evolved beyond single sell organisms. Animals dying because they can't survive the environment is the very epitome of natural selection.

Sorry, but I'm afraid we won't be able to help. Even if there were PS4 emulators out there, and I seriously doubt there are because Sony would be on that in an instant, we would probably have to remove such posts from the forum as there is no way the use of the ROMS for such an emulator would be legal. We simply do not allow links to pirated games on VGR. To play Bloodborne and other PS4 Exclusives on PC, the only option is the PS Now Subscription Service that can be used on both PC and console. You can sign up to a free trial then just cancel if that will give you enough time to play the games you want. As this is pretty much the only legal way to play PS4 games on a PC, I'm locking this thread to further discussion. I hope that helps.

I may have dismissed it as a summer bug or something, but two of my colleagues tested positive during the week, so it's best be safe. But oh no, I guess I'll just have to sit on my ass and play video games for next few days instead of going to work!

Well, I've been sick as a dog the last day or so with some worryingly suspect symptoms, so I've arranged a COVID test. Hopefully all will be well.

What are the most important things in a game?
Shagger replied to Euronymous53's topic in Gaming Forum
First and foremost, welcome to VGR. The most important thing for me is what I call the empowerment factor. Video games need to transport you to a place where you are more than what you are. There are many ways a game can do this. Through the character you play as, story, environment building and exploration, but the basic gameplay is what matters most. That's the players connection to the game, to the otherwise unattainable power that the game is supposed to offer you. If the game controls like shit or the user interface isn't up to snuff, all else is irrelevant really. -
And this is the same thing I've talk about before with Cyberpunk 2077. It's never a good thing when game companies announce release dates this ridiculously early. It is simply not possible that Bethesda can even be slightly sure that Starfield will be ready for launch this far from the release date. But no, we need to take in pre-orders for a year and a half before the game comes out because greed. Not to mention this is Bethesda, a company with a very poor reputation when it comes to the quality of thier games at launch already. If there is one company that really shouldn't do this it's Bethesda. I'm calling it now, this game will be delayed or launch broken, or possibly both.

These claims you make that people who call out racism are racist because, in your head, it means that those people "don't believe that minorities are capable" are unfounded and completely ridiculous. The only person who has ever implied such a possibility is you. It's YOU that putting that ridiculous theory out there. What you're basically saying is that all of us are racists except you, the one who referred to the BLM movement as looters and criminals, because we call out it out where it's engrained into society and institutionalised rather than on a personal more level. Racism isn't just calling a black guy you see see walking down the street a "ni**er" or a "monkey", it's more complex than that. But no, it's me and the others who post about this systemic, institutionalised racism are the racist because, again according to you, "we don't believe minorities can succeed in a fair world". As aforementioned, that claim is bullshit, but more to the point the racism were talking about does exist because this is NOT a fair world! It is not a world where minorities, woman, the LGBTQIA+ community, the disabled and so on are consistently given a fair chance and fair opportunities. To deny that is prejudice. An indirect form of prejudice, but prejudice none the less. The deniers, the hypocrites, the people that insist there's nothing wrong because they don't want to believe there is something wrong. Who does that remind you of? You never address any evidence put up by anyone, you just ignore it. Despite saying this this earlier in the thread; I bet you never read the link @Crazycrab provided, did you? So how dare you imply imply those claims about us. You, of all people. Not once on this forum have you ever called out racism. Every time time the subject comes up, all you've ever done is deny it that even happens, including in this very thread. You deny it exists and you try to demonise people who speak out against it. And you know what, I'm getting a little tired of it.

DLC's that were worth every single cent you paid for
Shagger replied to Patrik's topic in Gaming Forum
It's your thread, but don't see the harm in people mentioning free DLC's. -
Honestly, no. Giving up your life to save an animal (or a human) may seam heroic, but in the end it is merely foolish. Any rescuer will tell you, even when it come to rescuing humans, to not put yourself at unnecessary risk to do so. The example I'm pointing to here concerns rescuing people ,but it still makes the point and is an appropriate metaphor. At my job we have undergone training to work in confined spaces. As part of the training we have been told time and again that if you loose contact with somebody down a space, whether it be a silo, a tank, manhole or whatever, NEVER attempt to rescue them yourself. You raise the alarms and get help. Many years ago, a man collapsed in a Caisson. The two two other men tried to shout for him, but didn't get a response. First one man went down to search and rescue thier colleague, but then collapsed himself, them the another man did the same thing, also collapsed. It turns out corrosion inside the caisson had depleted all the oxygen, leaving the atmosphere unbreathable. It took the apprentice working with the men to do right thing and leave them in the caisson and get help, but it was already too late. All three of the men died. So like i said, putting you life at risk to rescue anything is more foolish that it is heroic for most part.

Like I said, I chose the articles at random for what I recognised as major news sources, I'm not in anyway responsible for what is contained therein. Nice side step on the other three, though. Why are you not mentioning those? Systemic racism is a pretty much a proven fact at this point. It is real, and you never present any evidence to contrary, you just crawl back into your bubble and deny it. Still, it is still open to opinion, and so I must admit you have point there, but I still insist your wrong. Historic racism though, that CANNOT be denied. That is literally a proven fact. It's not a belief, it's not an opinion, so what's the problem with teaching it? It's not the same as teaching religious beliefs as facts, and from my experience being educated in catholic schools, that doesn't even happen anyway. My Religious Education teacher once said "Science is the study of how things happen, Religion is the study of why things happen", and that is an accurate description of my experience. You're still trying to paint people who stand up to racism as racists and it's still just as stupid as it was before. When are you going to learn that there is a difference between calling out racism as real and accepting racism as real? Calling racism out is not being content with it, it's exposing it so it can be fought. Saying racism is real is not what makes it exist, it exists because it exists. Living in a ignorant bubble and pretending it isn't there, much like you do, doesn't make it go away. On the contrary, it only allows the problem to get worse. That's why education is so vital when it comes to stamping out prejudice. You may not like the facts, but that won't change them. That's why when a mature, intelligent person is presented with these proven facts, what they do is accept that mistakes have been made, learn exactly that those mistakes are, then move forward with better knowledge to avoid repeating those mistakes. Societies are no different. We're not perfect and likely never will be, but that doesn't meant can't be better. What's holding us back is people like you. People who just profusely deny any mistakes or imperfections we have because you don't wanna live in a world where they are real. Well guess what, I don't wanna live in that world either. I think I speak for @The Blackangel, @Reality vs Adventure, @Crazycrab and others when I say we don't want to believe racism is real either. The difference is that we acknowledge it, and thus speak out against it so that we, as a society, can learn form it. Just like how those teachers and professors want to teach others so they can learn from it so we may avoid making the same mistakes. That's what makes these bills so wrong. The goal is perpetuate ignorance so racism can continue to exist just because certain people don't like the facts. You can use your twisted, deluded logic that make people who speak out against racism as the racists all you want, do what you need to do to feel better about yourself, but it won't change how you're perceived.
