@kingpotato, @killamch89 and @skyfire and I were talking about FPS weapons of choice here. And in another thread, we were talking about issues with camping in FPS games.
The thing is, if you use a sniper rifle, rail gun, etc., from a tactical standpoint, it seems to me like camping is ideal. But at the same time, obviously camping can get to be an irritant.
For those who prefer sniping, how do you usually approach this issue when playing online? Are you just a really precise aim, and you can run-and-gun with a precision weapon and still hit things (unlike me)? Or do you camp for a couple minutes at a time in different nests, but move around enough to try and not annoy other players? Or do you camp as long as you want and not care about the issue?

In Q3A, if there is a BFG, I grab it, because it is too big and fun an advantage to ignore. Otherwise, I use the plasma gun whenever possible. If I can’t grab that, shotgun or rocket launcher if I am in tight quarters. If there are some fun sniping spots, the rail gun. If there aren’t, I avoid it like the plague, cause I am a dreadful shot. If I am playing bots, I do also spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to gauntlet everyone.

In UT2004, I usually prefer the link gun or the minigun.

I had to look this up, as I didn’t realize it was a meme. It seems that the major complaint is the volume level of Meridia’s voice. I suppose I can see how that could catch a person off guard, especially with headphones on.

But really … they are making quite a big fuss about it IMO. I actually prioritize this quest, and am happy when it shows up as early as possible, because I want that sword. It is one of my favorite weapons in the game. It’s effective and it’s a (literal) blast to use. The dungeon is pretty “average” to me in terms of play, but I do like visiting the place because I like the statue of Meridia and the view on the roof.

The most  delightful surprises at least for this year , for me are :
-The ending in God of War PS4 after the fight (I'm not going to spoil it but its a mix of happiness, sadness and holy shit moments)
-Horizon Zero dawn, this one not a specific moment, but rather several moments when Alloy learns what the real world is about.
-The Last of Us, of course the Giraffe scene as well
-The Witcher 3, good ending , last scene with Ciri
-Spider man PS4 Construction site mission, this whole mission felt like a Marvel movie
-Bioshock I agree I expected a bad ending

I have one funny moment in mobile legends. While battling 4 enemies at a time. I managed to take down three of them. 1 remained while my health was down. Instead of attacking me that enemy attacked the jungle monster. And that jungle monster instead of attacking him, attacked me and I got killed.

One kinda cheesy and minor thing that was a nice surprise for me came when I was a kid. I had bought a used copy of Zelda A Link To The Past. There was a partially played game on there. I didn't know much about the game, so I erased all the games on it to learn on my own. I remember getting annoyed as hell because I kept running out of bombs and arrows all the damn time. Also I never could figure out what the exact purpose for the Pond Of Happiness was. I would stop by to grab a faery every once in a while and sometimes I would throw a bit on money in as a goof. When I hit 100 rupees for the first time I found out that the queen of the faeries would increase your carrying capacity of arrows from 30 to 70 and bombs from 10 to 50. Needless to say, as soon as I get the flippers, I max out my money and head straight to the pond now.

Any time! One other quick and easy tip is to target enemy ships’ weapon systems to disable their guns. Once their weapons are offline, they become sitting ducks. Good luck!

I think IGN and the polygon has reduced the spoilers lately because they have sponsored content. But other small gamers do leak stuff.

Considering the fact that I play classic systems almost exclusively, there's not really a lot left that could have any kind of spoilers. I have a couple games that are, for all intents and purposes, completely unknown. And no, they're not ROM-hacks. For example how many people here know about the NES game Taboo The Sixth Sense? I bet there's very few people here that know much about Astynax, Clash At Demonhead, or Legacy Of The Wizard either. And that's only one system. So unless it's a game (NES mainly) that I have never heard of, (highly unlikely) then there's not much out there that could be any kind of spoiler.

Some friends just bought me a copy of Faster Than Light. I’m new not just to this game, but fairly new to this entire type of game. Anyone have any starting advice for a newbie to help me get the most out of it?

In Skyrim for instance, the Npcs Magicka Regeneration is far higher than your character which essentially means they can spam spells while your run out of Magicka after casting 5 or 6 spells.

There are some games that have the reputation to have artificial or fake difficulty. For many people real difficulty is challenging and rewarding, because it feels you are in control, many times you understand the theory but the practice requires you to build skill and you know that when you fail it is because a mistake you did.

When you die and feel the game is being unfair to you, it might be a fluke of bad programming in a part, but if you often feel like the game wasn't being fair then it could be relying a bit too much into artificial difficulty.

    Some examples of cheap difficulty:
    - A game deliberately spaces more than expected save points in order to force you go through a hard portion of it again.
    - Missions that depend on luck.
    - An article that you can only get the first time and otherwise is missable.
    - Being forced to beat a level with an specific character for not other reason than increase the difficulty.
    - The boss has a wipe-everyone movement activated by luck.
    - Changing genres in the middle of the game.
    - False edges to jump onto, depth perception tricks.
    - Only being able to pass a zone by trial an error (in essence you'll have to die to uncover the right answer little by little)
    - Extreme Rubber-band where the AI has to do things that are not possible in order to catch up with you.
    - Different physics for you and AI characters (for example your attacks won't pass through an asset but theirs will)
Do you guys can think of any games with artificial difficulty? Maybe there's a moment that has stuck with you. Or maybe tehre is a game that you know is pretty much known to be difficult through cheap difficulty.

Why is it that every time that most gaming companies come up with a product, they always use the word "innovative"? Bringing back things that were industry standard a few years ago is not innovative at all and it is misleading (talking about EA in particular).

I would definitely be one of those alienated gamers. Aside from the allure of classic systems, another reason I stick to the old stuff, is because it is mostly single player. I think the only multiplayer games I have are early Mario games, and fighting games (MK, SF2, etc.). Other than that, virtually everything I own is single player.

Planetside 2 is actually a very underrated MMO - It had the largest and most epic battles I've ever witnessed in an MMO. We are talking about 500+ players with different roles in the team. Some players just logged in to be the transporter - transporting troops to different bases, every battle wasn't just about numbers, it was also about tactics and wars for control of different segments of the map raged on for weeks/ months. My tactic was always relatively simple - get an aircraft, fly right into the center of the area with the most enemies, jump out of the plane right as it crash into them and take down the rest while jumping from cover to cover so that my team can flank them from another direction. The funny thing is it worked about 80% of the time with the other times being of course not jumping out of the plane at the right time (really embarrassing) or the plane gets shot down before I could execute the tactic.

Are there any video game lines you incorporate into conversation a lot?
For example, I have a tendency to say “would you kindly” when making requests a lot, although only people who played BioShock know that I am making a joke. Everyone else has no idea why I seem to say it in italics.

Yeah, exactly. It seems that up to a point, “tedious” can actually induce a relaxing flow state. But past a certain point, it converts into an unwanted, stressful experience.

Not in games I have played no. At least not that have affected others. But in MUDs and MMORPG's it can be a pretty big deal to find an exploit.

Gender is definitely a huge thing for me. Being able to play as my identified gender helps me a lot due to me not being my true gender irl.
