  1. Probably not. My hair hasn’t fell out at my age yet, so by the time it does, I’d be at the age where it’s “normal” to see a guy with thin/balding hair. If I was balding in my 20’s, I’d have used some products, but I dodged that bullet.
  2. Most of the RPG’s I play have short side quests and the names of the characters are super insignificant. The names of the quest characters are just to give it a tad bit of spice as opposed to “villager A”
  3. There's a lot of stuff that took me awhile to get into because I couldn't stand the fanbase. Now I can just separate myself from the typical fans and just enjoy it. It helps when you meet "normal" people who like it as well.
  4. I have a mostly "neutral" American accent, but since I grew up in the South, certain pronunciations of words and colloquialisms can have someone sniff out I'm from the South if they're knowledgable on stuff like that. Or it's because y'all is never leaving my vernacular.
  5. I remember how a lot of the people who got busted on the show used the excuse: ”I came here to tell the 12 year old girl that she shouldn’t do this” ”Well we have your chat logs, that’s definitely not what it sounds like” ”No, you’re misunderstanding, I was trying to scare her” ”So why are you carrying a box of condoms?” ”cough cough, I’m leaving”
  6. Random encounters in RPG’s. Part of it was my impatience, but playing a lot of those games that were early in having enemies visible on screen made it even more annoying. Especially when some of those games also expected you to grind. I can shut my brain down when I’m grinding in a game with random encounters, but having to leave the screen to reset the enemies over and over is obnoxious for me.
  7. It’s short for baby boomer, someone born in that generation. Since my example was someone’s grandparent (or having older parents) getting hacked for using an outdated computer, I used it correctly.
  8. I used the term boomer to refer to someone’s grandparent, or “older” parents that isn’t holding onto an old computer just because of an emotional attachment, but treat it like an appliance like a fridge or microwave under the pretense of “it still works, why do I need to replace it?”. I’m use the more “traditional” term of a boomer, and not the catch all internet meaning of “someone that’s older than me”. To an extent, you are right with the companies who have data to protect pay to have stuff behind walls of security, the OS doesn’t matter after a certain point. Where I work, we also have systems running on outdated OS’s, but the big difference is that those don’t connect to an outside network, and you need access to the inside of facility, so at that point, the threat is primarily through an insider threat. Though at that point, the whole conversation is irrelevant. A closed network, or a standalone system is fine from some asshole on the internet. The same can be said about having a Windows 95 computer not connected to the internet. Someone has to physically get to the computer on question to do something, either intentionally, or unintentionally. When it comes to something connected to the internet, the OS and lack of security and antivirus updates definitely come into play. Someone finding an exploit in a device that’s been unsupported for several years, you’re not gonna get a patch from Microsoft, Cisco, or Palo Alto. In regards to a random person using an old computer using an outdated OS connected to the internet, you’re not going to get an up to date antivirus, you’re not getting security updates. You’d be lucky if reinstalling the OS fixes the problem. Another thing to consider, is that most hackers are actually lazy. Why else are robo callers, and fishing attacks still a thing? It‘s low effort and low risk, and that 1% that fall for it is easier and less risky than trying to hack into something like a government computer. So someone using an outdated OS is an easy attack vector because there’s also a high chance that they don’t have much knowledge on safe practices.
  9. The owners are called boomers, and they don’t understand technology to update their computers, not because they’re broke. They’re easy targets for stuff like that. Businesses who can’t afford to update (or too lazy) their computers are also prime targets. I have certs in this stuff, and is part of my job, so this is more common than you’re making it out to be.
  10. It's really not all talk, and the excuse of "it's gonna get hacked anyway" is kind of a silly reasoning to not practice basic computer security. You won't get security updates, and your antivirus and other software won't get updates. So using an outdated OS connected to the internet is like a ticking time bomb. Your reasoning comes off like "I shouldn't lock my door because people can break into my house anyway".
  11. It’s all opinion. Overrated for me is when I see a game that I think is good or great get perfect scores across the board. It’s like, cool, I enjoyed the game, but not that much.
  12. I always feel like people use overhyped and overrated as a synonym of “it’s popular and/or well loved and I hate it.” They always talk about how much they hate it. People are always so baffled when I say I enjoy something and call it overrated. Like somehow you can’t have the two.
  13. There are definitely quite a few games that don’t have a 3D feature, but I’m sure most of those came out after the 2DS.
  14. I would say something like an RTS would be much better to play with a keyboard and mouse. Though that has more to do with the nature of how those games play as opposed to anything skill related. In regards to keyboard and mouse making you better at FPS games, I noticed it was primarily the low tier competitive players bragging the most about what equipment they have that makes them superior to the filthy casuals. They get super salty when you beat them with “inferior” equipment because they believe owning that stuff makes you a better gamer. You gotta buy a mechanical keyboard because it gives you milliseconds of an advantage, and it has to be a PS2 mechanical keyboard, because those don’t have key rollover like a USB keyboard. So buy a motherboard that has PS2 inputs. Oh, sorry, I just beat you with a cheap $20 off-brand 360 controller…
  15. I personally wouldn’t have a problem with seeing it, but I’d still report it because regardless of my personal opinion, it’s pretty blatantly against the rules. I wouldn’t lose my shit, or get upset over it. I don’t get upset or annoyed with spambots, I just go “oh look, a spammer”, and click the report button. Done.
  16. I always find these types of threads entertaining, as I’m always curious over how opinions change on entries in popular franchises over the years. Especially since we’re in the age of the internet where everything is archived. I always enjoy seeing these games that were loathed years ago are now liked, or even beloved. Or how a lot of franchises have a thing where you have to hate the newest entry, and the former newest game is now acceptable to like.
  17. They're shutting down the online store for the 3DS next year, and next month they're prohibiting the ability to add funds. Nintendo themselves are basically done with it, but we might get some stray third party physical games that are from some weird company.
  18. I wasn’t trying to imply that, I was siding with you, I was probably just piss poor at explaining it. I was implying that back then it was usually that one person complaining, so people blew it off. Over time after people get educated on it, you start seeing more and more people condemning it. A lot of detractors tend to act like people woke up one morning and said “today, this word is now offensive”, as opposed to it being a gradual thing.
  19. I’m speaking on this as an outsider, but there have been several instances where these terms were always offensive to the original demographic, but at the time they were considered buzzkills (or worse) for bringing it up, and subsequently got blown off. It just took time for someone to come into a position of power to say something about it. 10+ years ago for me, it was totally acceptable to call people variations of the word fag, and anything lame was called gay. People complained about it back then, but they were few and far between, and if they did, they were blown off, killing our fun.
  20. It’s possible that you might need to calibrate the control sticks in Windows, or get third party software for it. I’ve used periferals on multiple operating systems and have seen more of an issue with the software more than the actual hardware. One example is mouse scrolling. The scrolling works completely fine on Windows, but I use it on ChromeOS or a Linux distro, and they’re both like “lol, you want to edit scrolling sensitivity?”
  21. Sounds like you’re just a slow typer.
