  1. I noticed that @DylanC posted a topic "Games you love that no-one else likes" (LINK). But as far as I can tell, there was no thread for the opposite. Since every Ying needs a Yang I decided to start it myself. So here it is, a thread to bash the games that everyone seems to love that you can't stand. That particular game gets a bunch of praise from your fellow gamers and/or a ton of awards from critics and you can't figure out why. The games or genres that your friends are all playing that you can't get into. Maybe even an upcoming release that has everyone hyped, but your not interested and your sick of hearing about it! I'll start with a selection of mine: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor As a fan of open-world action games like Assassins Creed and as well as Lord of the Rings, this is a game that should have been right up my ally and seemed to please everyone else but I was VERY disappointed. What I expected from the trailers was a game where you where a lone Gonorian Ranger that would have to use stealth and strategy to combat the hordes of Orcs in Mordor. The game in truth is more like... actually no... EXACTLY like this! You were so ridiculously overpowered and the stealth detection was so hilariously broken that the only aspect that is any legitimate threat to you is you own lapsing concentration! You can sprint straight across open fields and through crowds still get stealth kills, be surrounded by and slaying dozens of enemies that will barley score any hits, they will lose track of you after breaking the line of sight for only a few of seconds and even if you do manage to die it doesn’t even matter since you are resurrected with the enemy Orcs raising level which you'll likely be welcoming. Then there's the story and characters which are even worse, their so bland and that an hour after playing I couldn’t even remember anything that happened except for the truly atrocious ending. How the fuck did this get an 8.0 user score on metacrtic? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild There is a lot of positive things to say about this game from it's visual and sound design, combat, brilliant AI, the fun puzzles and very well designed levels. But, it is also one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I have ever had in my entire life. For everything that is great, there is something else needlessly tedious or hair-pullingly annoying. Not to mention I blew about £300 on it, a Switch and accessories in order to play it! The most consistent complaint I hear is the breakable weapons and that is irritating but for me, the biggest was the sheer size and design of the map. It makes the simple process of going from A to B a total pain in the ass. Mounts are useless since there is a deep chasm, sheer cliff or a group of enemies a 10-second gallop in every direction forcing you to abandon it and when you do they don't back to their stables! I spent about 12 hours playing about 90% of which was on shrines and towers because the game didn't push me to do anything expect unlock more fast travel points and expand my stamina and health gauges. I'm sure with a lot of time there is an amazing game here but I didn't have the patience to find it. Burnout Paradise I was once a Burnout mega-fan and consider Burnout 3: Takedown one of the best racing games of all time if not THE best. So I was deeply saddened that the fifth (and as of now, last) main installment of the Burnout franchise replaced classic arcade racing with one very stupid idea which inexplicably stuck... MAKE IT OPEN WORLD! This was a move that I'm convinced to this day was done for no other reason than EA's sheer unfettered greed, forcing players to buy their own copy of the game in order to play together. Split-screen and Crash party... GONE! Instead, you drive across what's effectively an open-world menu completely wasting your time whenever you need to change your vehicle or start an event. Most consider Paradise a classic and will never be able to understand why. Well that's my contribution to pissing everyone off, how about you!
  2. I was always one of those people against the idea of a Final Fantasy 7 Remake. I didn't see much point to it and would have much rather have seen a remake of 2, 3, or 5 which never got an initial release in the west. Another thing that put me off the idea was the fact that the Final Fantasy 7 fanbase are some of the most annoying people on earth. They just piss and shit over everything that's not Final Fantasy 7 purely for it committing the crime of not being Final Fantasy 7. I remember a while ago they made huge shitorm about the shape of Aerith's face in the remake becase she doesn't look 12 years old anymore, their crazy! With that being said I did just play the Demo and it's REALLY good! The combat is smooth and designed in such a way that I think both old and new players will (or at least should) be happy with it. Not to mention the production values are through the roof, it looks and sounds absolutely perfect.
  3. What do you mean a "shortage"? Even one is clearly to much.
  4. To tell the truth there has been a bunch. I think I might start a topic about it...
  5. Other than my shell... let's just say... I've been through this situation before:
  6. Yeah he's good for a laugh! I've always liked "Amish Paradisae" ansd "Eat it". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcJjMnHoIBI
  7. Quality over quantity... That is such a good point that I would like to nominate @Shagger as well.
  8. Aggressive, debatable at best, violent, not a chance. Also the "Anti-SJW" angle is a political standpoint that has nothing to do with propagating violence as a result of direct exposure to the media. Here is one of at least a dozen reports based on ACTUAL studies I can post, this one being from highly respected Oxford University. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2019/02/15/new-study-shows-that-there-is-no-link-between-violent-video-games-and-aggression-in-teenagers/amp/
  9. For years now politicians have been making these very unwarranted accusations against gaming and gamers to protect themselves and/or organisations that support them against backlash and action that might affect their wallets. It's not just games either but also music, TV shows, movies and even books. It's well known amongst the gaming community that is in spite of decades worth of evidence and studies that prove that is a complete it's a complete crock of crap that they, naturally just choose to ignore. So yeah, when you go onto a gaming forum and one of the first things you do is start a discussion throwing in that very bullshit is a bit like walking in a sports stadium being the only one wearing the rival teams shirt. Some of us might get a little irritated.
  10. Thanks for the nomination @The Blackangel. They have been mentioned already by I nominate @The Blackangel and @kingpotato.
  11. Oh yeah, because the people most qualified to determine the quality of their mental health and what outside influences shaped their psychological profiles to drive them to commit their crimes are of course... the criminals themselves.
  12. NO!! Absolutely not! There have multiple studies that prove conclusively that there is no link between video games and violent behaviour and I'm completely sick of people that try to use video games as scapegoat.
  13. If it's anything like this can film from a couple of years ago then it might turn out to be pretty good. Here's hoping.
  14. There seems to be a few airlines that offer games as part of their flight entertainment systems but it's certainly not common yet. I still think more people would prefer to just simply bring a portable system like the Switch on the plane with them.
  15. You think the sex in Heavy Rain was awkard? It's public peck on the cheek compard to the sex in his previous game Farenheight: Indigo Prophecy. Forget NSFW, they ain't suitable for anything!
  16. For a service that advertised itself as and I quote "Makes it easy to play your favourite games on any screen in your life" this is one of several things that should have been availible from day, damn, one! This launch has been pathetic.
  17. Cellular and WiFi signals can cause interference with some cockpit instruments and equipment, that's why flight attendants will usually ask you to turn your phone or tablet off or at least onto airplane mode. They should still let use them and other devices like the Switch offline.
  18. Can you be more specific? Like was it so laughably bad that to the point of entertaining like The Room or Dungeons and Dragons or was it equistly well crafted but full itself to the point of distraction like The Cell or Deathproof.
  19. I used to use Teamspeak, then I started using Discord and it's WAY better. More sociable, cleaner and easier to use interface and (at least the last time I used it) the scaling on Teamspeak at higher resolutions is so bad that parts of it can become almost impossible to read.
  20. That's because it's a piece of crap, borderline scam. More recent videos.
  21. No, the idea of paying for a game I know I can't play sounds kinda daft to me.
  22. Most of the time I don't really care. There are times when I will wait for a certain time of day to do somthing for sake of thematics in accordance of somthing that is going on in the story. For example when playing Skyrim I always like to enter Solitude for the first time in the morning becuase that's when you would expect an execution to take place. Of course there are some games where time of day actully has an effect on the gameplay. Like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dying Light or Final Fantasy XV.
  23. I got a 3 screen set up, 2 27' 1440p monitors on a corner desk (one G-Sync) and a 42' 4K TV on the adjacent wall. I use my G-Symc monitor for for both PC and console gaming for the simple reason it's easier and more convieniant to sit at my desk, I only really use the TV if I have company around. While technically true in real world the difference is barley ever noticable. The only real issue with using a TV as a monitor is that most of them (especically at 4K) tend to be a bit to be big to confortably sit on top of a desk. Sitting further away using a wireless mouse and keybord can a real pain in the ass to. Likewise you don't really want to sit on the other side of the room playing a console game with a 27' screen. To put it simply, which type of panel is best all depends on the enviorment you are playing in.
  24. Reminds me of destiny with the setting and those elemental powers, but from what it's not a "looter shooter" and more of a Gears of War with Co-op campaign. It's definitely got potential. l don't get it, what exactly are people expecting here? Graphics are already beginning to plateau this generation so it's obvious it's not going as significant a leap as it was visually. The improvements I want and expect are beyond skin deep. Better AI, physics, framerates, faster loading and so on. I'm not saying graphics don't matter at all and that there shouldn't be any improvement, they do and there should be, but it should clearly not be the focus at this stage. Graphics are not going to get much better so let’s focus on other aspects.
  25. From what I understand the unit will sit hoirzonally allthough I could see allot of issues with width for many TV units.
