Crazycrab reacted to Shagger in We talked about 1st person and 3rd person. What about SECOND person?
Second person is something pretty much impossible to contemplate in a video game because the 2nd person is the perspective of your subject. In Call of Duty, this would be controlling the game from the view of whoever it was you were trying to shoot, or in something like Assassin's Creed, you'd be trying to control your character from the perspective of the guards. The camera angels you described in a racing game are still third person, just from a different angle. There are video games, especially racers, that have cinematic camera that take the view of how a motorrace looks on TV, for example. That is a second-person perspective, but nobody making a genuine effort to control the game accurately would actually use them. They're just for show.

You mean my first time dealing with an obnoxious fanboy and their utter nonsense... No, I'm a veteran!

That's not an issue with bad design, that's just just somthing you can't do with a fucking keyboard!  Does the fact that you can't take the kids to school in Lewis Hamilton's F1 Mercedes mean it's a bad design?  No of course not, It's a little thing called fit for purpose.  I also would not use a controller for an RTS game live Total War or Command and Conquer because that is not fit for that purpose.

I know you'll just simply refuse to admit because that's what all fanbus do but having full control of the direction of both the speed and direction of your character's lateral movement is important for stealth mechanics.  It's not important in something like say Borderland where you run, strafe, duck and gun so for I that i prefer mouse and keyboard.

At the end of the day however….  NONE of this shit really matters.  I’m not going to look down on someone who prefers to play borderland with a controller saying “A mouse is more precise you know”.  Nor am I going to prick at someone who is using a mouse and Keyboard to play Assassin’s Creed saying “You know you could sneak around better if you were using a thumbstick” because it’s not my business or concern.   They bought their fucking game so they can enjoying using whatever the fuck they want, that’s why on both console and PC in particular we have options  So it’s not an “unpopular Opinion” It’s just ri-god-damn-diculous.

I mentioned in the other thread that it makes no difference to me whether a game is in 1st or 3rd person perspective.  All that matters is that the game is properly designed around whatever perspective the devs have chosen to go with.  There are plenty of shooters that play just as well in 3rd person (Fortnite, Gears of War, Uncharted) as others do in 1st (Call of Duty, Titanfall, Borderlands).  Likewise there are plenty of action/RPG games that are just as good with a 1st person (Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Mirror's Edge, Fallout, Elder Scrolls) perspective as others are in 3rd (Assassins Creed, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dragon Age).  When the game is well designed the perspective is irrelevant.

oh dear, I'm a little scared of posting here as my unpopular opinions tend to be very very unpopular and I don't wish to be banned.  but here goes and in no order:-
    1:-
Achievements/Trophies.  I feel these are one of the worst additions to gaming in decades for several reasons:  1st they are worthless and meaningless.  I mean whether you have 1 achievement or a million, it makes no difference.  2nd they actually set a bad mindset and instead of playing a game and exploring/discovering things themselves, they simply follow a 'checklist' of things to do set by the devs, hardly my idea of fun. (quite frankly one of the main reasons I bought a Nintendo Switch was because it does not have baked-in Achievements/trophies)
Solution:  If you must have achievements/trophies in games, give them a purpose, right now they are just pointless fluff.   So have it so you can "trade in" your gamerscore or your trophies for things like money off games.  Then there would be a reason to collect these silly things.
    2:-
Modern devs think us gamers are morons - Why is it that in most if not all new games, whenever you come across an item you can use, it has a stupid glowing halo?  really devs, really?  Do you think we're too stupid to figure out what items we can and can't use?   and when climbing walls/cliffs.  The ones you can climb up have markings or paint to show us.  Again why??  it ruins the fun, discovering which areas you can climb up was good and you've taken that away from us now and it's all hand-holding and being lead by the nose.
Solution: just damnwell stop it!  We are not idiots, we can figure out where we can climb or what items we can pick up.  even if by trial and error.. just stop it!
    3:-
Fps games have grown stale and boring.  I used to love FPS games, both online and single player but I've not bought one in a couple of years now because they've grown so stale and same-y.  If you've played one CoD game, you've pretty much played them all and that goes for the other games too.   The games seem to be getting simplified or dumbed down and it's just the same cookie cutter nonsense over and over.   Go back 10-15 years and you'll find shooters were (on average) vastly more enjoyable and challenging.
Solution: Study older games and stop doing the same old, same old crap just because it's the lazy option and people buy it regardless
4: Single player GAAS (Games as a Service) should be banned.  There is no valid reason why single player games can only be played if you are online.  That is an utter joke and a scam because when the servers are shut down, your game is dead forever.   okay that's understood and accepted for multiplayer games but for single player games it's despicable and repugnant.  If I buy a single player game, I want to keep it and play it whenever.  Heck I still have games that I bought (or were bought for me) in 1982-86 that still work and I still play from time to time.   online only single player games are simply not acceptable.
Solution: stop buying single player games that are online only.
    also
Fallout 2 is still the best fallout game ever
BotW was good but very empty and very boring
Smash bros is one of the most dull games on the Switch
indie games are 95% shovelware and 5% hidden gem
Souls games are tedious and simply not enjoyable to play
Mobile gaming is repugnant and rife with f2p garbage that pretends to be gameplay whilst doing nothing but bleeding the bank account of the unwary dry
that's enough for now before I get into trouble. lol

Which channel do you watch for news updates? I watch BBC Breakfast every morning. However, if you stream or download any BBC content, consumers are legally bound to pay a TV License fee which is £157.50 in England. I can't entirely agree with the charge and personally believe the license should abolish or the money should go to good causes. They already get enough revenue from ad-breaks.

I'll be honest I despise things like lootboxes, season passes, microtransactions etc.
I can understand that nonsense in F2P games, they have to make money somehow but when a new PS4 game is £45 and day one it has a season pass for another £20 to me that is basically a scam.  They obviously cut things from the game to charge people more for it.
as for lootboxes, well regardless of how you spin it, that is gambling and should be imo heavily restricted or ideally banned. When it comes to microtransactions, I loathe them and I find the name insulting.  when some are £10-£30-£50-£80 there is nothing 'micro' about them.
as for "time savers", that holds no water with me.  if you don't have time to play the game then don't buy it.  and you know, we can save the game so what's the rush?  even if it takes you a year to finish a game, who cares as long as you enjoyed it?  Only a fool would drop £45+ on a game and then pay extra NOT to play it.  lol
I have no problems with a game having expansions down the line, that's how they used to do it and that's fine as you get a decent amount of content for your money. So yeah, I dislike all that nonsense, it's greedy and quite a despicable business practice.

Gaming these days is full of loot boxes and micro-transactions. It seems most games need them these days, and I don't understand why. The whole point of games, is to unlock stuff, and gain more stuff as you go along. Yeah some games may still do this, but I hate it when loot boxes and micro-transactions are needed to get anywhere in game. Sometimes games force you to grind and grind just to get to a point, but you can pay $1 or more to increase your stats, or a "gold" lootbox with a possible chance of getting a special item. It's gambling as well when it comes down to it.
What do you guys think? I'm not a fan of them. If it's just for cosmetics purposes, sure whatever, but if it gives people an edge in the game, I don't agree with it. Maybe single player only for that at the very least.

Oops I'm sorry, I didn't realise I used such harsh language, didn't mean to offend anyone! Apologies again! 😞

As for why I think PC is the best choice is simply because of the fact of Emulation. With a Good PC, the only consoles you wouldn't be able to play would be the PS4 and Xboxone. Almost every other console can be emulated (Ones with spotty emulation though would be Switch, PS3, x360, but they've come along way).

So I didn't mean that PC has the best games, more or less that PC can get you access to more games even from your favorite consoles. Again, this is only in the situation where you would not be able to play any other game.

Again though, didn't mean to offend anyone or cause a debate 😛 My bad

Actully I feel the opposite, I thought the large focus on the modern Animus and Desmond stuff in the first 3 games was crap.  When they stopped putting so much focus on that the games immediately got better.  I personally think Black Flag and Odyssey are easily the two best main games in the franchise.

In my opinion they should really just get rid of the Animus shit completely.

I would respectfully disagree that anyone would be stupid not to pick it. Many of the games I enjoy playing is not available on PC. Sure, PC games are great but the ones I usually play is only for consoles. So maybe those gaming companies are stupid then for not making the games available on PC  😁

I don't have full understanding of people who are loyal to certain platforms, publishers, developers, game franchises of whatever. I get fans of them, I am a fan of a number of them myself, but I'm not loyal to any then, I just love good games with little regard to who made them. So the concept of being "loyal" to games publisher is already a little odd to me, but when the publisher you're talking about is EA Sports, that is mind-blowing! It's literally pledging allegiance to the devil.

2K may have followed suit, but if they're Darth Vader, EA Sports is the Emperor. The greediest, most amoral games publisher in the world. They lazily rehash the same games year after and release them at full price with little to no changes. Updated team rosters and shirt designs, and that's about it. It's not like the games are quality, they're sub-par with glitchy gameplay and mediocre graphics.

EA prays on impressionable children and vulnerable adults to bait and real them into gambling. I don't are what defences people have for it, it's gambling. EA don't care about their customers, that's obvious,  but EA doesn't't even care its own people. Lay off staff by the hundreds whilst giving the executives who buggered it up get multi-million dollar bonuses for buggering it up. The amount of studios they've bought over then shut down is an ever growing obituary that shows no signs of slowing in its growth. They're a cancer on the industry.

EA in general, but EA Sports in particular, are a soulless, greedy, amoral tumour in the gaming that may care if you die tomorrow if they could somehow make money off that. Nobody should be loyal to any gaming company, it's our place as customers to demand the best from them, not buy their stuff because it's their stuff.

I would say it’s a good thing that EA has some competition in the market, but not only is that not exactly true but 2K is just as bad as EA now, I think it was Angry Joe who said "2K, one of the heroes of old, has lived long enough to become the villain themselves."  and he's right.
