If you have to explain a joke then its no longer funny but here I go I guess... @Clasher
Its very obvius actually, in english the word Date stands for calendar day or Date as in Dating or going out with a person in a romantic as in relationships, like going to the movies, going out fot dinner, going to the beach etc.
The question that William Shatner was asking (the old fat dude in the picture) was, "Describe the perfect date" as in going out to dinner or movies etc , and what she would expect from her male companion, if he was a gentleman or if he was funny etc
But the girl misunderstood the question thinking he was asking about the weather of a calendar date...

Oh man where do i even start i've played some really strange and fucked up (japanese) shit in my life.
LSD dream emulator -> Released on the ps1 in japan only, this is kind of a pre historic walking simulator where your environment chages all the time, it's probably the weirdest games i've ever played. Sadly it has become quite sought after the years making it very expensive, needless to say since the ps1 is region locked you're going to have the right system to play it on. I believe you can get it for cheap on the japanese ps store but no idea how that even works.
Mister Mosquito ->  Released on the ps2 Yep you've guessed it you play as mosquito, the game is made out of several stages where your goal is to terrorize a family and suck blood from them. It was quite a unique game for the time since you had some open inviroments where you could reach the goals in any order you wanted.
Bee simulator -> A more recent game from a couple of years ago, i really enjoyed it, it's obviously more aimed at children but you know flying around as a bee in an open world it never gets old, sadly it only takes a couple of hours to beat but if you want a relaxing experience this is one you should check out.
PuLiRuLa -> Another japanese exclusive, a beat em up this time, i'm not going to go into detail too much as hg101 has an exellent review of it alongside some quality pictures.
The Good Life -> Released last year, it's a game by swery65 (of deadly premonition fame) i've only played a little bit of it but can be classified as weird and it's easily avaible on current gen consoles. You play the role as a reporter who has to investigate an english country side village, where the villagers can transform into a cat or dog, not long after you can also transform into a pet, alongside the wacky cast it's probably one of the weirdest games to come out in 2021. Like i said i need to play more of the game to give so i can give a more decent impression.
There are several others that could be mentioned like seaman, cho aniki series, katamari damacy, octodad, catherine and untitled goose game as I've already raved enough about deadly premonition in the past i've decided not to included it here. Otherwise that one would take my top spot of weird fucked up japanese games and it's also the best horror games ever made.

I have to say A Boy And His Blob on NES. It's absolutely crazy. There is a blob that needs your help getting back t its home planet, Blobonia. In the game you feed the blob different flavored jellybeans to turn it into different forms like a ladder and an umbrella, so that you can traverse through everywhere and get him home.
That's one of the things I love about the era. Risks on the part of the developers.

Though I enjoy the multiplayer aspects of the games still to this day they would stand up on their own without constant sequels, especially sequels that are off-putting due to the progression systems not carrying over particularly well. With Warzone 2 coming out, and none of the old material carrying over it's hard for me to justify playing newer installments when the old ones have active (if often sweaty) playerbases.
Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw was involved in some of the initial drafts for what would become Duke Nukem: Forever. His pitch was an ironic take on the character: people not glorifying his deeds; acknowledging his attitude doesn't fly by today's standards; and he's too unfit to be as outrageous as he once was. But he admits himself it wasn't a very interesting story to tell, or in my opinion, via a video game. As a webcoming, a short animation or blog post, I'd welcome it.
I don't think Duke Nukem should come back primarily because of what you go on to say: "they'd have to tone him down a lot." If you make him too offensive he'll just add another sentence to his sad footnote on games history because that'll go down worse than DN:Forever; if you tone it down he's Matt Hazard minus the satire.

Most of my choices would be 'put on hold until diverted to their original purpose' which Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed fall snugly into, but that's not the question at hand. The problem is I don't really want any games to go away if people enjoy them, even if I don't get or dislike them myself. I agree with the OP's choice of Halo: anything that's doing the novels have done better by miles, if a friend's back-to-back revision of them is anything to go by. 343i haven't a clue where they want Infinite to go, and a sequel's prospects look worse each passing update.
Sonic's definitely the big choice for me. He's resistant to my earlier proposed treatment of Duke Nukem given he's a very charming character with a lot of nostalgia value. Even the films were halfway decent (the fan service being my favourite things about them are not glowing praise, I realise). Not to mention I saw how Banjo & Kazooie were treated in Nuts 'n' Bolts: it's a fantastical game in its own right but it spends so much energy taking the piss out of itself that it feels abusive more than it does a parody. I'd rather Sonic be retired than see a game where his ankles are too swollen to fit into his iconic running shoes.

COD, they've made around 20 games. It's no longer interesting or unique. I just want them to stop. Especially with WW2, it's been done to death.

Probably a fun one to discuss yes or no? As topic title says what videogame franchises outstayed their welcome and should be put on hold indefinitely. Where and why did they go downhill?
Let's just avoid the usual suspects like call of duty, fifa, madden and what have you as those are offcourse the more obvious ones. I'll start with my picks :
Sonic -> Yes sonic, i'm kinda ashamed to put it in my list as a sega fan but clearly apart from the brilliant sonic mania plus, sega just doesen't know what to do with franchise anymore and they keep pumping out mediocre game one after the other. With a bunch of remasters in between nobody was waiting for and with the upcoming sonic frontiers game that is already getting slammed  by the general public, i'd say it's time to give the blue hedgehog a well deserved rest.
Warriors/Musou games -> Where to even start with this, there are just so many of them out there and pretty much a new one wheter it's a spin off or main game comes out every couple of months it's impossible to keep up with them. Offcourse recent entries may be more varied then previous ones but doesen't take away the series should be given some time off, because they all play the same anyway. If Dynasty warriors 9 has proven one thing by going open world is that omega force doesen't really know what to do with it anymore to keep it interesting for more then a couple of hours.
Final Fantasy -> I'm not 100% sure myself wheter or not i should include it here but goddamn square enix has been milking the final fantasy dry all they can the past few years, like how many spin offs do we even have now, it's damn near impossible to list em all, like Final Fantasy Tactics, Dissidia: Final Fantasy and the recent released Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin coulden't be further away from the traditional jrpg roots of the series. I get it anything final fantasy is likely going to sell better but come on squar enix it's time you make the fantasy final for once and for all. Just start naming your games something different.
Need for speed -> A no brainer to include Need for speed as Ea themselves doesen't really know what to do with the franchise either, ghost studios clearly isen't capable of delivering a good racing game. Well maybe Rivals can be classified as good but eh ever since the 2015 reboot which imo has one the worst car handlings in any game and on top of that the cheesy live clips in between that are supposed to tell a story eh no thanks. Later games are a tad bit better but the whole you vs the cops or vice versa it's getting old and in this day and age i think nobody is waiting for another need for speed, now that ea bought codemasters i don't really see much reasons to keep need for speed alive for much longer. Let's just say need for speed is a series that is living of it's past glory and imo should be put on hold for a atleast a couple of years. We can only hope the new need for speed by criterion is going to be better then previous entries but if it fails i'm afraid for the series future.
I know i could go on and on but i've got to respect other people their free time, others i would have included are Halo, Gears of war, God of war and Resident Evil.

I've a feeling this may be a thread I'll come back to every now and again, so for the time being I'll nominate The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind as my first choice. I don't quite get the story, and I'll admit I find all of its side content vastly more intriguing than its main plot, but there is an incredible game there... underneath the guff that remained with the series from its inception.
My main problem with it is that it's not as good as Gothic, and that's painful to say when I don't like Gothic very much (nor its fanbase, but they don't like me so we're golden). Just about everything Gothic does, which came out at around the same time (but was not as well distributed, marketed nor did it have TES' name value), this game does worse. Its combat is incomprehensible without a wiki (then again what RPG's truly is?); its stealth is undercooked; and related to that point is the weak character interactions where simply clicking through dialogue options without a care plops things into your journal, with every NPC knowing just about every piece of information you've ever inquired about.
Things I do like are usually overshadowed by other problems. The game requires you read your journal for quest information, which is helpful and comprehensive... but it's poorly organised, and sometimes directions can be obscure to downright incorrect. You also have to navigate the open world with its dire render distance, hoping you come across roadsigns that lead you to somewhere you want to be and preferably out of the way of cliff racers. Some places such as Vivec are technical powerhouses for their time I'm sure, but impractical and take an age to navigate. And the final criticism off the top of my head is how the factions interact with each other negatively... but that's all they do. There's none that appear to get on or synergise. Houses, Guilds and 'Guilds' want you to choose your allegiances very carefully, usually before you join up and take time to perform their quests.
These criticisms, lengthy as they are, are not particularly bothersome. I enjoy the game greatly because the whole is vastly superior to the sum of its parts, whereas Gothic is the opposite: it's truly amazing how all the common sense aspects of Gothic's design made such a spectacularly OK game when its at its best.

So what are some games you enjoyed that are generally be seen as good by gamers but quite frankly have terrible or clunky gameplay. I'll start with the first two that came to my mind when i tought about creating a topic for it. Offcourse i should include Deadly premonition but i've already talked way too much about that game in previous topics i'll just mention it briefly.
Heavy Rain -> Great game, great story likeable characters but when i think back off it the controls are quite terrible and the gameplay is as boring as going to church on sunday. Bad example i know like who on earth still does that 😞
Mass Effect 1 -> the entire trilogy are classics imo but the first game hasn't aged very well, while everithing else about the game is still top notch the controls are just clunky and a pain to use by todays standards. Driving around the Moka is probably the biggest pain in the ass, well i'm sure you know what i mean if you played the original game. I think they finally fixed it with the trilogy.
Right surely i know more like alpha protocol and the first nier game just to name a few but i can't remember much about those games anymore so i'll leave some for the rest of you guys/gals as i'm kinda curious what you can come up with!

My favourite DLC of all time in video games would be Bloodborne - The old Hunters. It's by far the most incredible DLC that's ever been made for me. No other one beats it as far as my interest in the game goes. It brought more comprehensiveness to the game, added new stock of items with bosses that are the best in the game.

That is something constantly on my mind I struggle with. Almost like a type of game anxiety. I remember there being another thread about gaming anxiety and I don't think I really understood it till now. I'll try to explain. Sometimes I neglect a game for too long and I lose story immersion so I start a new game and play focusing on story and progression till I get up to my current game save spot, then I open that save and continue from there as if I never started all over. Doing that, I realize that I have less anxiety and get through it and enjoy it because I know what happens. My first playthroughs I always try so hard to get everything perfect, even my surroundings at home so I don't bust concentration in a cutscene. And that gives me anxiety when I know the story cut scene is about to kick in. So yeah, I find it enjoyable playing through a game I already have played. When I played TLOU2, I played it a second time right away back to back. The first time I was so preoccupied at times with scenery. The second play was story focused and fast paced and very enjoyable because I already knew what was going to happen. I didn't have to slap myself to focus. lol

SMB can be hard as hell if you don't play it constantly. The hardest level is by far 8-4. Trying to find the correct path to follow so you can beat Bowser is one of the most difficult things. If you take one single wrong turn, you're not going to find him. The game gives you plenty of chances to find the right path, but it sure as hell doesn't make it easy.

I consider myself adept at platform games and even I struggle with the first Super Mario Bros. on NES. There is a lot to look out for in terms of level hazards and enemies, but they got easier as time went on.

I  myself struggled with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, or more specifically its dragon fights. I'm generally not a fan of ES combat in any iteration of the games, but Skyrim is up there as one of my least favourite barring stealth-archer build (AKA the only build.)

Yeah Twisted Metal seems like it should have gotten a reboot/remake by now. It's been a long time coming. I mean, it looks like we're getting a TV show before an actual new game. I would've thought we'd get a new game in the series for the first time in forever, but it looks like they have to make a show instead.
I remember Death Race. And yeah, it's partly what inspired Twisted Metal I imagine. It would make perfect sense.

My pick is twisted metal. Does anybody remember that movie that came out some time ago Death race? Specifically the remake with Jason Statham, I was very young back then and I was under the impresion that the movie was based of twisted metal, I didnt knew anything about the original movie.
But with that in mind it will be cool if we get a twisted metal game with the premise of the movie, a post apocalyptic world , a prision based tourment, and power ups on the track like on Mario Kart but of course with all the gore and destruccion of twisted metal

This is mainly for the online mode. They add new content often for GTA V online, which is a 9 year old game at this point. While RDR2 came out in 2018 I believe and should still be receiving new updates, new content, missions etc. They release some content, but it's minimal compared to what is offered GTA V.
And I know GTA V has a bigger user base. But I still feel like RDR2 online could work better if they actually supported the game more.
