  1. That's kind of paranoid. So Epic knows I claimed my free copy of "The Vanishing of Ethen Carter". OK, what's next? Seriously, what is there to be done with that information? So no, there is not that much data to be extracted from that and not that much they can do with it. And remember it's not like Steam, Sony, Xbox and all the rest can't do the same thing, so I would either not single Epic out or remove the tin-foil hat and relax.
  2. They really don't. I recently tried to play one of my games on Steam using a controller, and it wouldn't work. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, but before it was something up with the settings or compatibility with a specific game, which is annoying but it can happen. This time, there was not a single game on Steam that worked, not one. I tried with games on both Epic and GOG, and there was no issue, only on Steam. My laptop also recognised the controller just fine. I tried going through the controller configuration and calibration menus on both windows and Steam, made sure the drivers were up to date, changed every setting I could find on Steams easy to use, but pitiful and useless controller option and nothing worked. But did I find a solution? Yes I did, but the solution is so absurd that it's just further proof that controllers on Steam don't work. Credit to The Windows Club for this answer. Check out the article if you so with, but here is a video of me going through the process. To answer a couple inevitable questions; No, going into big screen mode was not a personal preference, it's something you literally have to do as the menu option I changed at the end can only be accessed this way. This alone is really annoying when one had to troubleshoot using a web browser as one has to memorise the entire sequence instead of following it step by step as exiting big picture mode to check on the sequence means having to stat all over again. You may have noticed the the setting I changed is within a menu for a specific game (in this case Tales of Arise, a game that used to work fine with a controller on this computer, by the way). Does this mean you have to do this for every controller compatible game in your Steam library? Yes. it does. Every single one of them. One. At a damb. Time. I don't know why people praise Steams controller support. As I said, I never have any issue with this on Epic, EA Desktop, Xbox on Windows or GOG. OK, some games on GOG have compatibility issues with modern controllers, but that down to the games. The service, the launcher itself, works fine without having to piss about with menus and configurations, just like the rest, except Steam. According to what I read, this is what has to happen for anyone who is not using an official Steam controller. I was using a third part EasySMX branded controller that gets recognised as an Xbox controller, just for reference sake. Hopefully putting this thread up will save somebody some time, and pleas feel free to talk about other similar issues you have had and how you fixed them to help others out.
  3. It's likely at least 1% of dogs will be assholes like that as well.
  4. I'm not sure. To me, the JRPG has a very distikive style that was very much created and developed in Japan, but I wouldn't say an RPG game is a JRPG just because it was developed in Japan. Take Dragon's Dogma, even though it was made by Capcom it's still a western style RPG.
  5. Wow, that is freaky. I tend to forget dreams within a few moments of waking up, I'm starting to think I'm lucky in that regard.
  6. Exactly, there is not a single game you have listed there that is actually out yet. Maybe I'm crazy, but to me it only makes sense to give props to games that we actually played. Might I suggest that this thread would be a more appropriate place to discuss upcoming games. Don't post something just to post anything. Nobody is forcing to say something if you have have nothing to say. Anyway, I'll cast another vote for Horizon Forbidden West, it's superb. It's like the first game with every little thing a little bit better. What more could you ask from the sequel of an already brilliant game? It even has Tuvok (Tim Russ) in it!
  7. Been playing a lot of C&C Red Alert 2, Dungeon Keeper and Magic Carpet 2 lately. It's easy to forget how more simple games from can in the day can really suck you in and immerse you in ways a lot of modern games struggle to do.
  8. Call me cynical if you want, but I personally don't measure the quality of a game on how many copies it has sold, so I see no point in glorifying these stats. Buy 2015, 20 million people had had bought and/or played Destiny and it set all sort of sales records, but that didn't stop the game being crap. So I really don't see the point on discussing this.
  9. I can't claim to know how the law in America works, but if Chris Rock doesn't want to press charges, isn't that the end of the matter? From a legal stand point, isn't the inaction more to do with that rather than Will Smiths celebrity status?
  10. Now beaten Magic carpet 2. First time I've done so in years, maybe even decades. Despite it's serious stability problems that aren't helped by the game's age, it's still superb.
  11. Having played the game on both PC and console, there's nothing at all wrong with playing on PC. I would suggest though that even on PC is game is still best played with a controller. Even though it easier to shoot accurately with a mouse, just some thing about the UI suit a controller better. It's personal preference in the end, though. If you can make it work with a M/K by all means, but I struggled a bit.
  12. But like I said, for a PC to work as a utility, it does not need to be built to the kind of specification as a gaming PC, and at far greater cost. They don't even need a GPU. So by your logic a gaming PC is just as "unnecessary" as a console as you only have one for the arbitrary reasons of entertainment, just like a console. Nobody "needs" a gaming PC for the same reason as nobody "needs" a games console. Buying a simple laptop or PC to use as a utility computer then buying a games console to play games it will still cost less money than buying a gaming PC. Your claim that a console is expensive because a PC has other uses does not hold up. PC fanboys use that argument all the time and never holds up, and I suspect that's why you ignored me. Like I said, depending on where you are taxes and/or imports can have massive effect of that in the real world (not to mention scalpers), but on base price consoles are less expensive than gaming that's just a fact. It's also a perfectly legitimate reason to want a console instead of a gaming PC. I don't understand why fans of PC gaming find that so difficult to accept. I'm a PC gamer and I'm perfectly happy to admit that.
  13. Lots of good points and good ideas. I never though of it that way, but you are right when you say people who post in this manner will be far mor likly to have thier posts ignored by others. A "white noise" sort of thing, I suppose. another reason why this should be discouraged. However, I personally am not a fan of daily limits on posts. This isn't about people posting to much, it's about people "posting for points" as you put it, and thusly not really caring about what they post just so long as it's something. A daily limit of 32 would likely only result in the individual in question doing 32 "shitposts" over the course of an hour or so, then leave the forum for the day. They would actually spend less time here actually looking through the forum for inspiration and learning more about other members of the community. That's why I do like the idea of timers. Let's say people were not allowed to post more that 4 times in ten minutes, that would encourage them to put a little more effort into what they post as in those 10 minutes they will be able to edit. There would be no point is rushing through it to get to the next post. That could maybe work, but the solutions is still, like you and @kingpotato have said to simply adjust thier posting habits and understand why these kinds of posting habits hurt the forum.
  14. You're not even reading my post. Rat's only carry disease as product of the environment they live in. They don't "produce" them. I also acknowledged that feral rats are vermin. They eat food, cause damage, all like you said. As pets, none of that happens. Again, LIKE I SAID and you would know if you had payed any attention to what I posted, the same thing happens to cats and lots of other animals when they forced to live under those sort of conditions, it's not unique to rats. Ok, I admit I made an error. sorry for the mistake. Either way, rats clearly are not poisonous. At least I was closer to the truth than @Head_Hunter.
  15. Oh man, where to even start. It is now know known that the plague was actually mostly spread by flees, not rats. A rat can only carry disease if the environment they live is unsanitary, it's not an indigenous aspect of the animal. If you have to scurry about a sewer to find food, you won't exactly bee clean either. If you think rats are that dangerous, then you really need to stay away from pigeons, they are actually worse. Urban, feral rats are vermin, that is true, but that's they're a product of thier environut. Cats do no better in the same circumstance. I know that first had as the disused ducks and drains in the dockyard where I worked were full of them. Rats are not poisonous. That's so incorrect @Head_Hunter I doubt you actually what know word poisonous actually means. A poisonous animal is one that carries a venom, not an infectious agent. A Cobra, for example, is poisonous. A rat is not. Rats are very intelligent, more so than dogs and cats. As @The Blackangel will testify, as pets rats (provided they are care for properly) are totally hygienic and complexly harmless. You guys have some serious misconceptions, and what makes this worse id=s that you really should have known all of this if you had payed any attention what @The Blackangel says about them.
  16. Since I know you didn't think so little of me, @DC and @The Blackangel, I'll ignore the implication that any of us would abuse our power like that and try to address the underlying concern. Of course, there would have to be established parameters and rules that everyone would be made aware off. But like I said, this kind of action would be the last resort and quite frankly wouldn't actually solve the problem. It would be more akin to "cleaning up the mess". You are 100% correct that people should alter thier attitude on how the post on the forum. Ultimately, that is the only thing that will actually work. We can try and guide people to better posting habits, but they don't want to listen, what's next? Restrictions so people can post a certain amount in a set space of time? This is not an easy problem to solve unless these people just listen understand how this sort of thing hurts the forum. Well, that's a judgment call and it's up to the moderators. But alas, we are human. Sometime you'll agree with our actions, and sometimes you won't. I would only merge two or more threads together if; They are about the same thing. If the older thread has been recently active and/or if it has a lot replies. Otherwise, I'm inclined to just let the new thread be. Like I said, somebody posting a thread about an already existing topic isn't exactly a major violation on VGR. It usually happens when people are new to the forum. If somebody does it repeatedly, we point out the search feature that's about as far as it goes. On the flipside, if someone bumped up a old thread instead of starting a new one, it all depends on the thread they bumped up. If that was a dead thread with few replies to it and especially if the thread was really old, I'd say that is taking the stance of not filling the forum with repeating topics too far. I have seen very recently (and this person knows who they are) somebody scrolling down a sub-form replying to every topic about the same subject matter one by one with no care about how the threads got or what worth they were even to begin with. And because he started to most recent to oldest in that order, what we ended up was threads with one or two replies that hadn't been posted for well over a year bumped to the top of the sub-forum. Literally dozens of them. And of course, all the more current topics were bumped at least one page back. Even you @kingpotato have to agree that that is ridiculous. He/she could have instead created one new thread to compile all his thoughts and passions about the subject into one new thread and that would have been a lot better. Like I said time and again, common sense. So you see, it comes down to judgment. As I said, deleting post would to used to "clean up the mess", not to solve the problem because it wouldn't solve the problem. This problem can really be solve by the people that cause it. And all it takes is posting to the forum like it's forum. To actually care about what you post. I really don't think that is asking for much.
  17. I don't know what the purpose of stating the blatantly obvious about what Final Fantasy is, but the topic is list your favourite JRPG's. so getting back on topic; Final Fantasy X Tales of Berseria The Legend of Zelda, The Ocarina of Time (Yes, I I know a lot of people don't count Zelda as an RPG, but I do, so shut up.) Final Fantasy XII Tales of Arise
  18. Magic Carpet 2 Playing the game through GOG and emulation on DOSbox. This a great game and really gem from my early days on PC, but it horrendously unstable. I've crashed serval times, but I'm detrained to get through it. It's the emulation that's the issue either. Even new the game barley worked. It was rushed out of the door too early and released in an unpolished, barley finished state. This will be fun, take a guess who published it? No clues, just have guess. I guarantee the first company that cane to mind is the correct answer. Anyway, I've got it running OK and I'm through the most buggy part of the game I feel, so I'll try an finish it.
  19. Trust me, and I'm sure I speak for @The Blackangel as well, the last thing we want to do is to start deleting people's posts, but there is a line to cross between a basic, but valid, forum post and something of so little worth it could be considered a form of spam. If some people don't step up thier game realize what the difference is, we are going to get to a point where we will have no choice. I hate to repeat myself, but it's about common sense. If it's a choice between creating a new thread and post one one with little active and hasn't had a reply for months, we will now give people a row for creating a new thread. The worst that we'll do is merge threads together, and that's all. It really isn't that big of a deal and people shouldn't be afraid to this. I have been engaging with members on this issue. I won't say who, but I will say this. Some people put more effort into defending thier posting habits than they do on the forum itself, and it's frustrating. People just don't an issue with blasting out 30-40 one sentence posts in the space of an hour or so, but it is a problem. It is not possible to post with the very basic level of foresight, diligence and care at that kind of pace, it just can't be done.
  20. I notice I haven't made a proper reply to this thread either, so here goes... Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West To be honest, I'm not completely sure if it's accurate to call these games RPG's strictly. To me, they feel like open world action adventure games with RPG elements. But hey, if Assassin's Creed counts as an RPG, I suppose these do as well. Exiting and at time very challenging strategy based combat, gorgeous environments, stunning graphics and a unique style and setting. The story is enthralling and empowering in the way it ties together around our hero's own personal journey. One of the reasons I would be a little hesitant to recommend this to hardcore RPG fans is that, especially in the first game, the RPG elements a a little light and simplistic, but they function and the systems work into the combat well enough to make your approach matter and every victory and loss feels like your own. These could be amongst my favourite games of all time and no PS4 collection is complete without them. Tales of Berseria This was actually the first games in the long running Tales' series that I had played. Not that that was a problem because like Final Fantasy, each games tells in own enclosed story, so aside from a some cameos and other bits and pieces of fan service, there is no need to know anything about other games in the series. Graphically, the game was a bit out of date even buy the standard of it's 2017 release date but that shouldn't put you off. Frantic and complex combat, a phenomenal, dark, emotional story with a great mix of action, drama, twists and turns and even a fair amount of comedy. Getting the best out of any Tales' game requires a significant investment of time, but in the case of Berseria, it's well worth it. Tales of Arise The next game I want to talk about is.. well, the next and most recent Tales game, Tales of Arise. I must confess this is a little bit of cheating as I actually played the game on PC, not PS4, but it is available on PS4 as well. I also am not going to go into any detail here as I did publish a full review of the game on the VGR forum, and you can find that here. Suffice to say, whilst I didn't enjoy this as much as Tales of Berseria, I still loved my time with it and would recommend it to any JRPG fan. Child of Light I've said in the past that I do not consider video games to be a form of art. Anyone who wants an in-depth explanation as to why can check out this topic, but if there is one game that qualifies as a piece of pure art, it's this. Not contempt with being one of the most visually unique and beautiful games ever made with a sublime soundtrack, it's everything about it that screams art and style. Even the dialogue in of itself is a piece of art as it's all written as poetry. Essentially, it's a 2D side-scrolling RPG with turn based combat and a levelling system based on collecting from enemies. As you could imagine, the story is emotional and heartfelt with an uplifting, positive vibe, but to be honest, those are the side dishes. The protein on this plate is the way it looks and feels to play. It's stunning to look at and soothing, yet so satisfying to control. It's one of the best games Ubisoft has put out over the last decade and I find it's often overlooked. A real triumph. I think that will do for now. I was going to include the Final Fantasy X/X-2 remaster, but to be honest, one is far better off playing that one on PC though Steam, so as much as I love that one I'm leaving off this list. Well, that's some of my favourites.
  21. What is it with you and the very vague replies? What Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy? There's at least 2 Final Fantasy games and even more Assassin's Creed games made for PS4, and that's not counting remasters. The topic is about recommending RPG's on PS4, and you didn't even do that! This is what I'm talking about with low quality posts that are made by someone who doesn't care. It says "I played a game" and doesn't address the topic. If you were making the minimum effort here, you would have stated specifically what Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy games you played, say if and why you liked them and why you would or would not recommend them. @egghead, start taking this more seriously or I'm going to start deleting posts. The same goes for everyone. Unbelievable...
  22. OoT and A Link to the Past get my vote, but some of the more recent game like from the GameCube/Wii era would be cool as I have really played those. Can anyone say what the good games are from that era?
  23. I now notice that FFXIV is Free to Play. Maybe it would be worth getting back into it again. I'll do a litte homework and get back to you to @The Blackangel and @Rain Dew, maybe we can clan up?
  24. It's not a contest to see who has the most posts. On the contrary anyone who sees it that way is doing this all wrong. It's about being active and contributing, and that is not summed up by how many posts you've made. To be fair to @killamch89, he is a very valued contributor who posts in quality as well as quantity, and that's what we like.
  25. It's not asking for much to actually go and read the original post, or do like @kingpotato suggested and do a little research. Stop being so lazy.
